Melb trade McDonald to Swans for 1st rounder (Maybe trade our 3rd for their 2nd, not sure about that yet)

Melb trade pick 16 (Swans 1st), our 2nd and our 2017 1st for Hurley/Hibberd

Thoughts Essendon fans?
TMac + 2nd rounder + 1st rounder out for Hurley + Hibberd is huge overs on our part unless McDonald actively wants to go to Sydney. Given that we can probably get Hibberd for a second rounder + steak knives this would essentially be a top 10 pick and an extremely good young key defender/one of our leaders for a somewhat better key defender who is two and a half years older and hasn't played football in a year. I'm not sure the difference between TMc and Hurley justifies this trade.

Same as Simpson.

We have 2 ruck/fwds coming through next years academy, one has played NEAFL for us this year so this is not a desperate need. We need a mature Mumford back up though so unless Simpson is not up to it or moving on. I'd rather pick up somebody like Minson.

I was surprised you took simpson,he had limited mobility to begin with and the back injuries have made it worse.

Vardy is in poor form but at least has ability and movement that simpson never did.

If not much is offered i think we will just keep him as we have been burnt with ruck injuries a lot the last few years so we could use that ruck backup.

I reckon we put up our first round pick and Howlett, maybe Hibberd if he truly wants out for a ready made key forward. Would love jack darling type.

We need a gorilla in our forward line. I reckon that will be our priority this trade period. Has to be.

Rory Lobb pre draft about playing AFL for a Perth team,

Lobb grew up as a West Coast fan and models his game on that of Dean Cox.
But despite his childhood allegiance, he would prefer to be picked up by a Melbourne-based club.
"I'd like to go over to Melbourne somewhere and just try something new," Lobb said.
"A fresh start would be exciting and a good experience."

Jack Darling isn't really a gorilla type though, he's not that tall

But he is super strong and has really good hands. He's the hit up target we are missing.

You still don't give up pick 1 for it though. You'd be better drafting one. A fee of those types are available this draft.

I'm obviously bias and a big fan of Darling, but even I don't think he's worth pick 1

How does giving up Rockliff 20 and 24 for pick 1 and 37 favor us in anyway? We're overpaying for pick 1 in a year the draft doesn't have a standout player
Rockliff is shit

Wow. Really? Ive always rated him very highly.

Jack's not really tall/big enough to be a dominant key forward in the modern AFL. He's good as a second/third foil but will probably never be the dominant figure in a forward line.

But it's still a win-win, the Suns get a player before Bowes is bid on, and Essendon get two top ten-ers. Why is it not a win-win? Is it just that you want to be on the better side of the points equation?
Because GCS win that trade by about 400 points. So a reasonable loss for Essendon. Swittch pick #19 to #37 and the difference is less than 100 points (yes, Esendon's way).

And the "win" is just way less, maybe a loss for Essendon if we give up #19. The point of trading #1 is to have more chances of top talent. We've already got two good shots in #1 and #19, trading two picks for two picks doesn't really help. So we really need 1 more pick/player in than is out, something that is possible when the pick out is #1.

On a side note, looking at Knightmare's most recent rankings and this type of deal might now work with GWS as well. Two of their academy kids in the top 5 before their first pick (Collingwood's). Their issue is if they have enough points remaining after such a deal to get all the academy players they want, as I believe they have a LOT available. But with other trades out, that might not be an issue.

Melbourne lose Hogan gain Pick 1, 3
Freo Lose Fyfe, Pick 3, Gain Hogan pick 19
Ess Lose Pick, 1, 19 Gain Fyfe.
Fyfes not leaving Freo, and if he was Freo are not giving up him AND pick 3 to get back Hogan and 19
