25. Tarryn Thomas – Tasmania
The hugely talented Thomas showed flashes of brilliance in the middle especially in the 2nd half showing his great agility and composure. His skill by hand and foot was first class and he was rarely flustered with ball in hand he also took some great marks overhead. Thomas showed he could play on the inside and outside and if he keeps having good midfield performances he will be a likely top 5 prospect in 2018.
Put him on ice, hide him away in some development league in Tassie

FLYING creatures have long played in the AFL, from Swifts to Swallows, Swans and even Cockatoos, but they all pale into insignificance with a prodigiously talented Gippsland teenager.

Meet Irving Mosquito, a 16-year-old from Gippsland Power who will surely become a cult figure should he progress to AFL ranks.

And that is a distinct possibility in two years time – Mosquito lit it up for Vic Country at the 2016 U16 National Championships in July.

His story, like his name, is one of great interest.

Mosquito grew up in the northern Western Australian town of Hall’s Creek – more than 2500km north of Perth – and his family are highly respected in the area.

At age 11 he was taught by Mick and Shane Roberts, who became his guardians and brought him back to their home in Gippsland at Briagolong, 30 minutes north of Sale.

He now attends Gippsland Grammar on a scholarship and plays with Gippsland Power where regional manager Peter Francis has taken pleasure in his progress.

“He is a delightful, respectful boy with a ready smile,” Francis said.

“As a footballer he reminds me a bit of Michael Long, being very, very quick (2.80sec for 20m, 53sec at age 15 for 400m) and being capable of taking a really good mark (he stands 180cm).

“His parent still live at Hall’s Creek and Irving is going back up there in a couple of weeks. I suppose his story is similar to Anthony Tipungwuti.”

Re comparisons between Rohan and Stephenson, I didn't see any of Rohan in his draft year. What sort of player was he? Did he generate midfield numbers like Stephenson has?

From what I've heard- Rohan was never a high possession winner.

Stephenson will smash it at the draft trials - be interesting if he goes higher

Nowhere near Stephenson.

So he's tall, he's fast, he's good at finding the ball and he kicks goals. Lots of them. Correct? What are his weaknesses?

Before this year he hadn't displayed genuine midfield craft. He probably still hasn't in terms of a centre square clearance winning midfielder.

Though he can win his own ball, he is more outside. Though given his athletic strengths that's probably just the way he is utilised. Loves to tackle though.

Kicking is the major weakness. Not that it is majorly bad. Looked quite good yesterday case in point. But it is not a strength.

He is lightly framed so will take awhile.

One major selling point is that assuming he turns into a mid, he is very good up forward. As in not resting forward, but playing a whole game there.

Great summary. Looks like his endurance is very good, that coupled with speed will get him to many contests so he should get big numbers.

I think a very good comparison is issac smith. Smith a much better kick, but Stephenson maybe a touch more contested but has the genuine forward string to his bow.

Skinny.
Contested ball finding skills are just developing (but at a fast rate).
Is he a mid or a forward?
Has an ugly field kicking style which might come undone with AFL pressure.

Ha....Ok I now found the Stephenson video. I remember this guy on TAC stars earlier in the year and I was very impressed with this kid. I just forgot who it was.

Yeh definitely keen on this kid.
