Today is a new day, and Rayner is still the man at 3 if available.

I feel if his endurance is a failure to make it AFL level midfield, he is still a bloody dangerous forward.

Cerra is my next pick over Dow and LDU - has a little Cotchin/Pendlebury about him.

Rayner Dow Cerra or LDU. We will get a very good player regardless. Of all of them Rayner is the hardest to assess as to his ceiling

SOS apparently wanted Taranto then SPS last year. Spot on I reckon

The good news is that 2 of the top 4 will be gone before our pick so our decision may be slightly easier. I do like that there is not a consensus number 1 and we didn't have to get a spoon to get them.

Good year to have number 3 I reckon. Having number 5 last year work out well IMO [emoji41]

With all the talk on this board, of our list desperately needing midfielders, yet so many completely contradict that, by saying Rayner is the man for us.

Don't get me wrong, Rayner is a beast and I would be more than satisfied is SOS selected him, but he is not a midfielder, at all. As for suggesting he has huge upside, compared to many of the other draftees, he is already 187 88, so physically he already has the build, while others have more upside when it comes to physique

That's the big question. Be very interesting to see what SOS does

Whoever we pick we will all love and tell ourselves reasons why they are better

Sos was very keen on Setterfield he selected him before SPS but GWS matched the bid.

I've been reading this thread on & off and I'm really confused as to why so many people are arguing about particular players here.

As long as we hold on to pick 3 (ie. don't trade it), then I'm putting all of my faith & trust into those making the decisions to get it 100% correct once again.

I'm not fussed if they don't draft a midfielder either, if they deem a forward as the absolute best player (a potential gun) at that pick then that will do me. I know there is a strong need to find quality mids right now but we cannot pass up a serious "jet" because of that fact, we still have a number of slots to fill on the list and quality players are the priority.

The list build is solid. It has solid foundation. It has breadth. It will get more breadth. It has pointy ends. It will hopefully get a couple more pointy enders.

LoGo , Trigg, McKay, SOS, Bolton formulated a correct plan. They have enacted that plan so far. Everything they say , and act out, indicates they will see the plan through.

We are building it....competantly....and patiently....and correctly....predominantly thru the draft.

And ain't it (belatedly) beautiful, Terry?

If Gibbs goes and we don't trade in mature mids....does that change our draft tactic? Eg...pure mid instead of a mid/fwd?

I think it absolutely does!

I think at #3 overall you still have to be aiming to pick the guy you think will be the best player. We will need midfielders in the future. We will need mid/fwds. We'll need everything.

I have no idea who is the best, but the names that keep coming up as top guys are Rayner, Cerra, Dow and Davies-Uniacke-Smith-Jones-Kruger-McDonald.

Me too, what's the point in discussing it. It won't make any difference.

We will all die too. So why bother thinking?

It's a discussion forum. These threads help inform posters about the draftees. It's also fun.
