I agree with most of your post except for the bit where you say Gibbs is worth only one first rounder. Gibbs is elite talent and should be valued as such. Elite disposal skills and for all you know a pick 15 or 17 for him may be a dud. You want a guarantee of quality coming in the door for trading out one of your top 3 players.

Which is why I said a mid range first rounder (ie. Pick 10).

Pick 15 or 17 would need something else coming our way (probably a pick between 25 and 35 depending on what the other club has available).

Two first round picks for Gibbs is the maximum, not the minimum. A mid range first rounder (ie. Pick 10) probably gets it done by itself, though we'd undoubtedly ask for a little something extra if we can get away with it.

Indeed. Its the key to unlocking Kennedy and Smith. Gibbs for Kennedy and Smith is a no brainer.

We do that trade, andwe largely have the depth we need. Then we need to focus over the next three drafts/ trade periods (including this one, once the trade is done) on getting in genuine matchwinners.

Elite players. Martin, Danger, Selwood types. Few clubs have more than 2-3 of them.

We have pick 3 this year, and another low pick next year, plus free agency next year and the year after to get them in.

With that in mind, if we do the [Gibbs] for [Kennedy and Smith] deal, I would be more prepared to take a bit of a risk with pick 3 and reach for a player with X factor like Rayner or Fogarty instead of taking the 'sure bet' mid.

2017 1st and Galluci would be the minimum I think - effectively two late first round draft picks.

Anyone have concerns with playing Weitering, Marchbank, Plowman and Jones all together in the back 6.

I see these 4 in a lot of posters best 22's.

For me it is too tall and reduces our run from defence, unless you rotate 1 via the interchange.
Yep i do i think we are too slow not just in the backline but all over the ground . But have somewhat been getting away with it due to our stop start game style . Clearly we are trying to rectify that by adding to the midfield but will need to do more going forward . Will give us some bargaining tools however if we need to change up the structure of the side going forward .

Not at all. Far from hurting our run from defence, these players have all shown they are intercepting mak players with a flair for attacking from defence.

Wietering in particular isnt afraid to turn a forward inside out and counter attack.

We've been slow coming out of defence, due to game plan (going sideways and controlling the momentum); not due to the players in question.

Its something we need to improve on (we need to not be afraid to pull the trigger and go, in order to get the ball out the back before the opposition can set up). Its worked, but it slows our scoring down. It stops us getting scored against as well mind you.

My 2 cents re Gibbs. If he does seek a trade again I'm sure CFC and Adelaide will make it happen. The interesting bit will be how much SOS is prepared to relax re our demands.

My view is that we still hold the whip hand as Gibbs is contracted for a further two years. I would be hoping we still push for two first rounders (one of the Crows' first rounders in the Lever trade (around pick 9/10) and the crows current first rounder (pick 17). The crows should be receiving two first rounders for Lever and another possible late first rounder/early second rounder for cameron so this may make it easier for them to accept our terms.

Would like to hear ROCKLIFF, KENNEDY, SMITH (possibly GRIFFEN) & SAAD nominating us as they all strengthen our squad and are best 25. This is on the proviso that we don't pay ROCKLIFF too much, SMITH's knee is sound and GRIFFEN can still stand the rigors of AFL footy.

INS
Picks 9 & 17
Rockliff
Kennedy
Smith
Griffen
Saad

OUTS
Pick 9 (for Kennedy & Smith & Griffen if reports re salary dump are accurate)
Pick 38 (for SAAD - succession planning re simmo retiring and doc moving in to the midfield)
Gibbs

DRAFT
Picks 3, 17, 56, 75

*** possibility of trading Graham, Boekhurst, Buckley for other low profile players.

It was insulting based on what Geelong (and the other suitors) was willing to offer him. He was a Carlton person that didn't want to leave but was pushed out as part of the rebuild.

Maybe he wanted way over market rate for the one position we had an excess of.

Geelong were happy to pay overs because they had a shortage in that position because Enright retired.

Nobody "forced" him to leave - he was offered a contract and he declined it.

He put his personal financial interests ahead of the club.

Big deal - Welcome to the real world.

2e had a queue of clubs looking to pay him significantly about the Carlton offer. That is his market rate. The club push him out for the betterment of its long term future. No one likes to be underappreciated. Not surprisingly he was disappointed in the club. Shows that playing for the Navy Blue meant something to him.

McKay on Trade Radio.

We'll be trading and drafting.
No request coming from Gibbs. It may or may not happen. Gibbs is a Carlton man.
We're light-on for players in the 22-26 bracket.
Devon Smith: We've shown interest but have a lot of work to do just yet.
Tom Rockliff: No update on him yet, but we are interested. Tom has options up his sleeve.
Matthew Kennedy: He's a bit of a bull. We need to bolster our midfield but a lot of water has to go under the bridge....under the bridge.
Ryan Griffen: No interest as he doesn't fit our profile.
Adam Saad: We'd be interested in talking, but he has to make up his mind.
Buckley & Graham: It's a tough time for them between now and the trade period.
Rhys Palmer: We're in discussion with him and it's early on as to what may come about.

We'll have a lot of balls in the air.
We need to improve our list and its depth.
#3. Unlikely to send this anywhere. Really unlikely.

Thanks Aph. :)
