Boekhorst rather than Graham? Somebody lost their damn mind.

Boekhorst proved at the end of the season that he has at the very least a borderline AFL game. Graham has consistently demonstrated that he's a very good VFL player but is nowhere good enough to be considered a contributor at the AFL level.

If its about work rate then both should have been cut. Graham's output isn't close to sufficient when factoring in how vanilla he is.

Bewildering.
We may end up regretting cutting Boeky, don't like this decision

Would not be surprised if Alex Silvagni upgraded to primary list to make more space on rookie list for the rookie draft.
Surprised Glass-McCasker looked like he was retained on rookie list even though we well off for young talls in defence. Maybe he still on some rookie contract that has year to run?

As Dramoth posted a month ago JGM has a year to go on his contract. The source of this information was JGM's mother so was legitimate then as it is now.

Nick Graham must have a wonderful set of photos at home somewhere.

He will need to improve greatly next year to hang on but he is the best of the rest. He fills a role in the midfield if needed, works hard and is a popular member of the club. He will be in the NB's most of the year and will probably win the B&F

I do feel bad for Boeky. His late form warranted at least another year. Maybe a rookie spot (though there is no mention of it).

But at the same time, it was whether he was going to play a huge part going forward. He was after all a draft mistake from the Malthouse/Rogers era (we took him far too early).

Any insight into what went wrong with Blaine Boekhurst? He was a pretty high pick wasn't it? Was he a bad egg?

Purely outside and an average at best decision maker. Didn't always tick the team boxes on the gameplan. Borderline AFL player who could look much better as an outside mid on a stellar midfield.

Delisted when worse players were retained. More disappointed in this fact than his actual departure.

My gut feel is we will pick up a DFA and the rest through drafts

It is what I am expecting. One DFA, one rookie list upgrade to primary list of ASOS, 5 live national draft picks at most and at least 2 rookie draft picks and possibly 3 if we do not use our 5th pick in national draft and then also any Irish guys we sign up as B category rookie list guys.

We knock Graham but he sure makes a difference at the NB's Can't clear the mids.
He now likely gets one year and he knows what he has to do to have a future beyond it.

By the way, if anyone thinks we're going to bring in 8 quality players through drafts / DFA's...........well, it's just not going to happen.

I like that we can even begin to debate a delisting again. For a long time we just couldn't afford to delist them all as far as structure, age profile and draft depth went.

Excellent quick follow up mate.
Appreciate the info and description of the source.
Makes sense then how he got retained.

Might've been in the minority but I found Boekhorst's showed a bit in his last run in the seniors. If those suspected rumours about bringing in Matt Shaw are true I do question what the point of getting Shaw is? He's not an upgrade on any of the delisted lot so a little confused.

Think this was the last year of the big culls, of course a guy like Graham, Lamb and perhaps Byrne might be on their last chances to perform at senior level in 2018 but after extensive and needed aggressive turnover of players our list is looking more to where we need it to be.

Yeah probably the stiffest this year Boek, but too little too late I guess. LJ and Boek were in the same boat in terms of their list place was viewed. Liam got the feel good story and Boek the nudge. Interested which way we go with DFAs, one for SOS and one for Bolts perhaps?

I reckon 4 via ND, 3 x rookies and a DFA.

Pick 3, 10 & 30 should be minimum very good players. Pick 73 and rookies are long shots but if you can get 1 or 2 good to very good players out of it then you are ahead. Certainly much better than hanging on to already tried failures. Over to you SOS
