Have to hand it to Soapy V he was right on the number of delistings...

we have been ruthless

A lot of people were critical of Soapy’s “to be delisted” shortlist but ultimately he’s proven to be right. I think List Management have taken their final big chop for quite some time though.

While I wanted Boeky to get another 1 year deal, I can’t say I’m surprised.

Simon White - well, I’m glad I never have to have the “he’s a good third tall, has mongrel, good defensive forward, good tagger” discussion anymore. Was a mr.fixit who never fixed anything. But thanks for your service regardless.

Lost 3 players from the 24-30 age bracket just like that.

Can perhaps see the need for an extra veteran presence, another extremely uncompromising hard-worker.

We ******* d up getting rid of him, Graham would've been cut first if I was the list manager

SOS doesn't **** up in getting rid of players.

On my numbers assuming we use all 4 picks in the ND (and we only have 3, 10, 30 & 73) no more than that like some have suggested.

We currently sit at 37/3

So to get to the amount of players required to be on the list of 44 will depend on which way we go in regards to the amount of rookies.

We must at the minimum get 1 DFA to meet the minimum of 38 players on the PL.

From there is where it will get interesting.

I reckon 4 via ND, 3 x rookies and a DFA.

Pick 3, 10 & 30 should be minimum very good players. Pick 73 and rookies are long shots but if you can get 1 or 2 good to very good players out of it then you are ahead. Certainly much better than hanging on to already tried failures. Over to you SOS

Whatever way he goes more than happy he has given himself options over this period.

White, Smedts and Boekhorst goneski.

Good !!

Keep clearing the deadwood, the list can only improve by doing so.

I reckon that takes it 13 changes overall does it not ??

How many posters said we won't get rid of that many again and lambasted me for suggesting such a thing ??

Yeah, let's see who fess's up on that one .......

Isn't Sumner being invited back to training for a possible rookie spot if gets fit?

Apparently. Has some x factor but we can't carry his single digit disposal stats. Needs to get more involved.

That's not what Dustin Martin said......

Yes, he needs to get more of the ball to have a long term future at AFL level.
Hopefully he is working super hard right now to get another go via rookie draft.

No surprises with White and Smedts, but really thought Boekhorst had played pretty well in his last few games which perhaps merited another year.

By playing well in his last few games he showed that he is a lazy S.O.B. and only wanted to extract the digit when his place on the list was in jeopardy. If he had of taken the year on at the start like he finished it, he would still be at the club.

I think we have one final year of a decent cut. We will trade and if next years draft is a good as people make out we will want a minimum 5-7 picks.

Next year the following will either retire or need to prove themselves (regardless of contracts) plus there is always 1 or 2 unexpected

Simpson
Kerridge
Lamb
Rowe
Graham
Phillips
Kerr
Thomas
Casboult
Wright
G-Mac
LeBois
Polson
Lobbe

That's 13 ;) (I expect 8-10)

Which DFAs are we looking at?

Got no idea but hopefully we talking to Trent McKenzie if he gets de-listed.
I would not mind checking out if Alex Morgan worth trying out as small defender too.
There is not much more there imo but plenty seem keen on Hartung and with outside runner Boeky gone there is some hope for him.

So from a practical perspective it appears SOS and co have made the success of the NB's a bit of a priority this year.

First we trade in Matthew Lobbe who will be an insurance policy for Kreuzer for selection in the AFL team. He'll be a central figurehead in the NB's. Secondly, we retain Graham who while I don't believe is close to a quality AFL contributor will admit to him being exceptional at VFL level.

From a theoretical perspective the effect that this should have is to make the NB's a successful team. In turn this puts the youngsters developing through that team into a winning environment. Further, when one of our AFL grade youngsters gets a week or so in the VFL team it should pay dividends. For one it allows them a better environment to build confidence from a personal perspective and from a team perspective it enables them to enjoy success.

From an AFL perspective it can be argued that Boekhorst has been superceded by Darcy Lang and/or David Cuningham. Graham doing the team things more consistently means more in the VFL environment than whatever Boekhorst would provide at that level. Good habits from veterans can be infectious but bad ones are even moreso.

Therefore, I'm rationalizing the decision as being very pro-NBs.
