Stars lift the culture, the standards, and the confidence of a playing group. Kelly is the ideal acquisition, but it doesn't end there.

If we can get Kelly for our 1st pick and change, we do it. Probability says that's an excellent bet. It adds another definite elite to the list (already have Cripps and Docherty), and we know flags can be won with as few as 5-6 of them.

We require another 4 quality midfielders, a small goal scoring forward, a lock down small defender, and a replacement ruck for Kreuzer.

Four at least. Quality midfielders require higher picks to maximise our chances. This is our biggest list issue. Getting Kelly could alleviate the depth issues as players like him and Cripps lift the midfielders below. I see SPS as a possible addition to our elite group whilst Cuningham and Fisher project as being in the rung below. Polson is still a big unknown. Williamson, C. Curnow and Doc can all rotate as well.

If SOS is as good as we think he is, he should be able to find adequate small forwards/defenders and additional ruckmen via later ND/rookie picks or low-value trades with opposition. These roles I'm not concerned about going forward.

That's still a lot of talent we need to bring in before I would consider our list as elite.

At least 2-3 more off-seasons before we could even consider our 'list' elite.

I think the problem with Sumner is that he isn't a very good footballer.

Kerridge and Lamb could easily be on our list in 2019. They're limited but useful mature bodies

If they're just depth (not best 22), it's inconsequential. Can I remind you GWS had Palmer on their list last year? Played 12 games too. They've also got Mzungu and De Boer this year.

Even the most talented list in history has strong-bodied role players.

Ross Lyon's 09-10 teams were stacked full of them and they probably should've snagged at least one premiership.

Pride is what happens out on the field every week, I've been proud of their efforts besides 3 quarters of football for the year.

Doesn't mean we are that good but they are taking pride in their performance.

I'll be disgusted if they have to much pride to ask for something that is well within the rules and their rights to do so. Every single club in the same predicament would do the same, thinking otherwise is ridiculous.

friends, sorry if this has already been discussed but, can someone please tell me why d armfield isn't he playing this year? i was a little out of it between from the middle of last year till the beginning of this but it seems like he's totally dissapeared, what happened?
he's always given us alot over the years with, pace, handy goals and done some very good defensive/tagging roles over the years, why wouldn't he be in the side more often and ahead of some of the recyled players that have been playing this year? and ive seen that he was promoted to part of the leadership group for 2017...
couldnt he be playing right now? surely he's ahead of some of the others..

i understand that hes towards the end of his career but surely he has what to offer?

Absence makes the heart grow fonder. He's been fit and playing VFL but with absolutely zero influence. Even when we were winning five straight.

You're really underestimating how far he's slid this year

Regarding a priority pick, I could envisage being awarded one on the understanding it is sent to GWS, should Kelly be headed our way.

Whilst this club isn't winning games on the field, the team is trying hard and whilst the provision is there then you ask for it.

There isn't a club in the land that wouldn't.

It's not basketball where one player makes a world of difference, there are 22 in the squad every week.

Rebuilding from where we've come and the restrictions surrounding how you get that talent means a complete rebuild takes a significant amount of time. Grand uber Gil is on record saying he'd like clubs to get better quicker, it's not a secret or a magic formula.

You take what you can when you can, this isn't 05, 06, 07....we are genuinely trying to win games. Injuries have killed us in the last 6 weeks reducing our ability to win more games but we are trying. The fact we sucked dogs balls last year and this year we've won less games but I believe have looked far better means you take advantage of whatever means is available to make your lot better.

I wouldn't complain if the AFL gave us a priority pick, but I don't think it's good for the game.

If they made the rules clear on what triggered one then teams would tank for them.

If they keep it a secret then everyone will always feel hard done by when they don't get one.

I can see Lamb still being there, has shown a bit and is a good foot soldier. Isnt going to win any awards but if he is your 25th or so best player when you're pushing for finals then we will have a good side.

I hope not. If he is our 25th best player we haven't progressed as far as I hoped. They are average players and don't influence games. It's why we are still a bottom list. Need to get past these players

You really need to have watched his VFL games, he's struggled this year. Whereas Graham has done well in the VFL and you need to reward form not favouritism.
