Just pointing out that player retention is an issue. Being screwed over by the AFL in terms of compo picks hasn't helped us either.
No harm in asking for a PP, especially if we do finish bottom which is still a possibility. It will at least stop Brisbane getting one.

I understand your stance on the matter, I just see it differently

friends, sorry if this has already been discussed but, can someone please tell me why d armfield isn't he playing this year? i was a little out of it between from the middle of last year till the beginning of this but it seems like he's totally dissapeared, what happened?
he's always given us alot over the years with, pace, handy goals and done some very good defensive/tagging roles over the years, why wouldn't he be in the side more often and ahead of some of the recyled players that have been playing this year? and ive seen that he was promoted to part of the leadership group for 2017...
couldnt he be playing right now? surely he's ahead of some of the others..

i understand that hes towards the end of his career but surely he has what to offer?
Very poor first two rounds. His cousin (Fisher) and Williamson came into the side after he was dropped and are Best 22 players already.
Not setting the world on fire in the VFL.

Watched Pickett in the pre-season comp against Freo live in Perth and he was a shining light with 3 goals. Can anyone tell me where he sits in the clubs plans? Is he not up to standard? Being missing through injury? Learning his trade in the 2s? For a very high draft pick and from what I saw pre season I was expecting him to be in the best 22 most of the year.
Just not fit enough to run out games. Another pre-season. Expect in Best 22 in 2018.

Speaking of disappointing, would think Sumner is a big chance to be delisted. Was so hopeful after a few flashes last year, but has been below putrid this year :(:(
Yes, a big chance, but I think Jaksch, Gorringe, Buckley, Armfield (retired) and White (retired) will go before Sumner, Boekhorst or Graham. If one of Casboult or Gibbs leaves as well, I am not too sure we will cut the list that deeply this year with a reportedly shallow draft.

I think you need to stop looking at it 1 year at a time and look at it from the POV of 'what does the list look like in 2020 onwards'.

Realistically we have 3 drafts and trade periods to get the list on order. Trading our 1st this year for Kelly, Gibbs for a future 1st and picking up a FA over that period (Dylan Shiel) means we should be fine in the guts (Cripps, Kelly, Shiel, 2 x 1sts from 2018, 1 x 1st in 2019).

That only leaves us with a Ruckman and KPF to go. Rucks are generally traded in. We need to look at prizing a 60 goal a season KPF from somewhere over the next few years to work in tandem with McKay.
Did you like McKay's game against Brisbane?
I think he was pretty good, ran out of puff.
Looks like the kid can play.
Glad we did not get Schache.

I wasn't expecting much but he did very well with limited opportunity and poor delivery looks like a better player at AFL level than at VFL for some reason but there are alot of players like that. will play the rest of the season i would say

Who has the inside word on Jaksch? He seems to have fallen away and hasn't been given an opportunity, looked a very talented kid..

What a disaster that trade and draft period was.

Would it be our worst ever? Even 2010 was probably better and that was an abomination.

Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but considering this draft pool is not as deep I would not be surprised if White and Graham are given one year contracts for depth. White is straight back after injury which tells me they rate him

Not sure about "rate" on talent but he's a hard body with leadership and mongrel.

Can play a number of roles also

Doesn't matter whether it's popular or not, but it's clear that we won't be moving on all that we may like to.
We won't be clearing 15 players. That would be suicide and much too difficult for the coaching group to handle.

8-10 is where it's at right now.

I still believe the plan is a big cut again (8-10). Nothing has changed. SOS will back himself to bring in "better" players. No matter if a draft is weak or strong there are good players in it and just holding onto "average" footballers achieves nothing. We could get a star as a rookie. You just never know. Even if we get one bit of gold late in the draft and three are poor it's still advancing the list and that is what we are about. A lot of players will be waiting on what happens in trade period. Average players need to be turned over until we get balance right

15 will go if they can replace them, it's not as clear cut as you think it is.

Of course it's possible but can it be practical.
You have to work both sides of the ledger; Out vs Ins.

Can you demonstrate how moving 15 players on this year may come about. There's a project for you LordLucifer Up to it?

That's the crux of it.

How much can we get away with cutting before the players we bring in contribute less than the players we got rid of. We need enough depth by position to allow us to cover for injuries without giving games to 18-year-old rookies who aren't remotely ready for AFL footy.

Quite a few of the players we want to drop are mids.

Cull: Graham, Boekhorst, Buckley, Palmer, Smedts, Sumner, Armfield, White and Sheehan.
Starting mids: Cripps, Murphy, Gibbs, Curnow, Cuningham, Fisher, Lamb, Kerridge.

If someone gets injured, it's Pickett, Polson or draftees. Or we're moving half backs and half forwards into the middle and plugins holes in other lines instead.

The way around this is finding appropriate DFA's (like Wright) who can be given a chance to rejuvenate their careers, or by trading for multiple players/picks and increasing the turnover that way.

Big cull this year, smaller cull next year, standard churn/turnover after that.

Last years List Management thread would make for some fun reading now.
Recall plenty of calls to move Jones off.........even to just pay him out and get him off the list. :)

LordLucifer Calling out for an example of how to move on 15 players. Is it happening?

Are you really that unimaginative here ??

If you want to move on 15 players, you simply delist them.
