One things for sure ... if he comes back into the firsts, he will bust his nut 200% and bleed blue for the 120 minutes he is out there.

ASilvagni played his role brilliantly before injury and has every right to be looked at hard, when he returns.
Problem is; What is our best back-line, for the short and the long term?

No matter which way I look at it, I don't think Weitering needs to be used there, going forward.
I really like Macreadie and can see him employed as our CHB in a couple of years time.

So how do Jones, Rowe, ASilvagni, Marchbank, Plowman, Macreadie and Weitering all fit into the back-line...........they can't and I still see a maximum of three talls next year, onwards. Speed required as the game we're playing now may not be the one we go with next year.

So as it sits right now we agree that jones and Thomas are in our best 22 and should go around next year on Lower contracts and that the following players are certain delistings:
Gorringe
Korchek
Jasch
Buckley
Boekhurst
White
Armfield
Jgm
Sumner
And the following stay as depth:
Graham
Palmer
Kerridge
Smedts
Lamb
Rowe

With the Dawn of the New Liam Jones, I think ASOS will likely play a key role in our VFL side when he gets back to full fitness, while providing injury cover for the seniors when required.

Jones takes the opposition's best key forward, Marchbank and Weitering play on the second and third talls, Plowman the medium forward/resting mid, Doc and Simmo play as the roving defenders with Byrne being eased in to replace Simmo.

Leaves ASOS to marshall the backline in the VFL, helping to develop Macreadie and Glass-McCasker (if retained). If Rowe sticks it out next season he'll be back halfway through the year - he'd have to do a hell of a lot in a short space of time to earn a gig in 2019 at that point. We've seen in the last few weeks how our VFL side has struggled with their backline being picked clean, so it will be important to try and give them some stability and maturity again next year.

If Macreadie comes on really quickly, he either puts serious pressure on a guy like Plowman, or he pushes Weiters into the forward line.

I must have missed the memo. When did we agree on this? I would agree that most of those players are in danger of delisting, retiring or not being offered new contracts. Not sure Sumner is a certain delisting. Are any of them contracted?

It really is a tough one, but what a great problem to have

Personally, if all are fit, 3 of Marchbank, Plowman, Weitering, Macreadie will be selected, whoever is showing consistency. Then 1 of Jones, ASOS, Rowe will be the senior big body. That leaves 2 players, 1 to lock-down a small forward, other to be the distributor aka Doc.

I do believe that Marchbank would be a very good lead up forward, Weitering will also be used up forward, both similar to a Hooker/Hurley type

Marchbank. - ASOS - Macreadie
DOC. - Jones - Simmo/Pickett

ASOS and Jones could hold FB and CHB for next few years, both are hard, desperate and fast key position players ?

Plowman, Byrne and Williamson on the wings to rotate with Doc and Simmo in defence

ASOS's closing speed was something that I missed until I saw what he did to Buddy. In 3-4 contests in that game, I thought he was out of position but that final closing speed was something else. He has elastic spoiling arms like SOS!!

He suffers from a fairly common issue when it comes to goal kicking - when he's kicking from short/mid range (20-35m) he seems to pull his kicks a bit. It's like he's worried if he tries to kick it long he'll shank it, but the irony is that changing his action to try and ease the ball through tends to result in mistimed kicks. Casboult was the same - more reliable from 50-55m than he was from 25, because he completely changed his intent.

Just hoof it through, Patty, put it in the second tier.
Generally the reason is how they tend to naturally hook the ball from further out, as the most bio-mechanically naturally way to impart more force is through a lateral swing of the leg, rather than ripping your lower back, hamstring and buttock.

Once you're in closer, you can't ride that arc, so you need to kick through. It makes sense, and there's plenty who are good exponents of the chip kick.

Where does ASOS currently sit when back from injury? Is he still elevated? Is there a spot for him to be re-elevated with Sheehan now playing? I don't think there's room for him at the moment with Weitering (can always go forward again I suppose), M'bank, Jones and Plowman.
Personally I don't think he would just walk back into the side and would have to come through the VFL, but if he plays well enough, where does he go and can he play?
Sheehan was elevated for Phillips. ASOS was elevated for Byrne, then Rowe.

We can still elevate one more rookie now that we're past the mid-season mark.

Simpson/Byrne ... Jones ... McCreadie
Docherty ... Marchbank ... Plowman

Williamson on a wing
Weitering playing forward

I see a need for a specialist small defender .
Next year will be Simpsons last and i see Byrne and Docherty as more medium sized defenders .
Maybe we can groom from within (Polson/Pickett/Sumner) ?
Maybe Duryea might appeal as a FA though wouldn't want to jeopardize any Casboult FA compo ...

I like it, but still think we'll seek out some break-away speed coming out of the back-line, eventually.

If we keep playing the game we're playing then that looks ideal and we will see Williamson playing wing..........perfect.

Looking at the current draft order, one way to get back in the second round could be to swap 1st rounders with GCS for one of their early second rounders.

Reckon it'd be a good trade for both teams.

It's possible if SOS thinks the player he is targeting will be there at that pick.

Looks about right. Add Gallucci while Sheehan could be in danger too if he stalls. Club would probably opt to keep White too.
