It won't happen.

We'll be sending our list backwards and having to fill spots with Anthony Raso type speculative players towards the latter side of what's touted as a weak draft.

The same people who think this can happen are the same naive bunch who think GWS are a charity and will allow us to pilfer three key players for two picks.

So you've been around these parts before!

Who would we rather get, Raynor or Hopper?

Obviously Raynor is a draft pick, Hopper is a current player. However purely on the players themselves and not considering trade value etc., who'd be the better player to get into the team long term?

Long term Rayner coz of his ability to play one out inside 50 and be a threat centre fwd

Yep.

Seven changes to the senior list is definitely not too many.

That was 8 changes from the senior list though, and didn't include Gibbs.

But for arguments's sake, we chop 7, replace 1 with ASOS, Levi goes for compensation, Gibbs goes for 2 picks, we still need to use 5 of our picks in this draft, our 5th of which is currently #94

A net result of seven off the list before trades isn't an unreasonable amount.

You have suggested we may lose 2 others via trades & free agency, but haven't accounted for the potential of players coming in the opposite direction. I would be very surprised if we didn't add players via trade or the various forms of free agency.

I wouldn't worry too much about where our draft picks currently lie, either. That's certain to change.

This is a conservative version of what we've done for the previous two years, so I ask you: who's delusional?

What's Lamb's scope for further development? He's shown no massive jump in fitness in 2 years, meanwhile Sumner is getting better, the kids are coming on in leaps and bounds.

It's the Graham argument all over again, except Lamb's in a position we are overstocked at.

I liked your list Jimmae, and think it's close to spot on. Like others, I disagree with Lamb based on Buckley. If one had to go, it should be Buckley; been in the system a long time, gets thrown around a bit and kicks terribly due to the impending tackle coming (rushes before crunched).

If you said both were to be delisted, i'd agree but understand the numbers of delistings that then involves. I know you mentioned Buckley being on thin ice and lucky if retained.

But head to head and positional requirements have Lamb ahead of Buckley in terms of re-contracting. Would rather both go.

It's close, but I just value Buckley's athleticism over Lamb's lack thereof.

Lamb's definitely the smarter player on the field, but I'm still holding out hope that Dylan's going to have a lightbulb moment. That being said, I think he is heavily out-of-favour, or he would have got a start this week.

I cut 7 from the main list. Yes we may have to take a few picks very late in the draft but every single season good players get found in the rookie draft and hopefully SOS can find one before they get there. If we don't go hard enough we will get to the end of next year and we could have ten plus players need moving on so we will be in the exact same situation.

Not necessarily true. Apparently next year's draft is stronger, we (currently) have all our picks rather than missing a 2nd rounder and we will be in the frame for taking Free Agents. It may be much easier to fill more list spaces next year.

Yeh I agree but we still won't want to be taking ten kids. We have 15 players on the main list who could easily be gone by the end of next season.

We need both types, but I think the Hopper-type is easier to find than the Rayner-type. In the hypothetical "one or the other" I'd lean towards Rayner.

The apparent lack of a tank rayner has puts me off...without a tank he will never reach great Heights at afl level...not as a midfielder anyway.

People just say oh he will develop his tank...but you see that said about so many players and they barely improve.

Hopefully we won't take "the most gifted talent in the draft" like we did with Yarran and Menzel.
