Gibbs staying put with Kelly and Hopper added.
Got a fair idea how you intend to pay for the 2 giants too :thumbsu:

It's that obvious, is it? :)

Gibbs will be playing quality football for another 5 years. I know there may be sexy first rounders to be gained......but I don't know.
I feel as though hanging onto Gibbs may be the better bet and a real show of strength from our football department.

Would you say Sheehan and Byrne are competing for the same place in the team? Ie small/medium rebounding defender?

Good question. Byrne is the better athlete and the dasher out of defence.
Sheehan has the magic boot, is very disciplined and a better lock-down defender.

I have little idea what our starting back 6 may look like next year........and that's a good thing, as I feel our game will also change tack.

I'm not sure what our backline would be like if everyone was available. Jones, Rowe, ASOS, Weitering, Marchbank, Plowman, Sheehan, Byrne, Williamson, Macreadie, Simpson , Docherty. You really could make a case for all of them to be in the side. There's a big mix of older, younger and experience as well. Will definitely be interesting to see what our standard back 6 will look like at the end of next year.

With all these whispers going around I though I might try coming up with another big trade and see how that fares with opposition supporters and our own. Now I personally love Gibbs at Carlton and hope he stay's but if he does request a trade again at years end...

...then...

HAL’s 5-WAY TRADE (Assuming Josh Kelly & Jacob Hopper nominate us).
  • Adelaide trade Charlie Cameron to Brisbane for pick #18
  • Adelaide trade Jake Lever, #18 & 2018 1st round pick to St Kilda for picks #6 & #11
  • Adelaide trade #6 & #17 to Carlton for Bryce Gibbs & 2018 2nd round pick
  • Carlton trade #3 & #6 to GWS for Josh Kelly & Jacob Hopper & 2018 2nd round pick.
  • St Kilda trade Adelaide’s 2018 1st round pick to GWS for Lachie Whitfield.

Adelaide Ins: Bryce Gibbs, #11 & Carlton’s 2018 2nd round pick
Adelaide Outs: Charlie Cameron, Jake Lever, #17 & 2018 1st round pick
First 3 Draft Picks: #11, #34, #52

Brisbane Ins: Charlie Cameron
Brisbane Outs: #18
First 3 Draft Picks: #1, #39, #72

Carlton Ins: Josh Kelly, Jacob Hopper & #17
Carlton Outs: #3, Bryce Gibbs & 2018 2nd round pick
First 3 Draft Picks: #17, #38, #55,

GWS Ins: #3 & #6 & Adelaide’s 2018 1st round pick
GWS Outs: Josh Kelly, Jacob Hopper & Lachie Whitfield
First 3 Draft Picks: #3, #6, #21

St Kilda Ins: Jake Lever, Lachie Whitfield & #18
St Kilda Outs: #6 & #11
First 3 Draft Picks: #18, #46, #61

Thoughts?

What may be, should some things fall into place:

Docherty Jones Plowman
Byrne Marchbank Pickett

Kreuzer Cripps Kelly
Williamson Gibbs Petrevski-Seton

Hopper Weitering CCurnow
Silvagni McKay Wright

ECurnow - Fisher - Cuningham - Macreadie

After that: '17 Pick#3 - Thomas - Polson

Then in '18: Ben Silvagni - Wil Hickmott - Tom Lynch

Come 2019:
Back-line - Sorted - we're good to go.
Mid-field - Sorted - with the extra couple of years into SPS, Cuningham, Fisher etc.
Forward-line - Sorted - although someone like LeBois will have to come good, just to round it off.
We've got a team.

No love for Murphy?

No love for Murphy?

Plenty of love........but this game isn't all about love and things can be handled with due respect where a win all round can be achieved.

We don't have a lot of collateral we can float and given we're half way into a rebuild........If the cards fall well, we could win this trade period like no other.

What do you say to " Murph doesn't have the currency of Gibbs or Kreuzer....or even Levi Casboult...."?

That is actually pr0n

I don't know but we'll see and this may look silly looking back on it, but right now;

Hopper & Kelly for next years first, this years Casboult compo, Murphy and maybe we pay some of his salary, because we have factored that in.........and then get some other little gain in return???

Something like :

In : Kelly , Hopper , (Griffen - salary dump)

Out Murphy , 2018 1st rounder , Casboult FA compo pick 22 ?

Perhaps we even pay some of Murphy's salary ?
We can afford to absorb the salaries of Griffen and perhaps some of Murphy for a year to attain Kelly and Hopper at a reduced price .
This is the template for our recent trading with GWS and it helps them clear cap space for a crack at Martin .

Edit : you obviously type faster than i do Harks ...

I'd like to see how you think we could get this done without Murphy in the mix as I still believe the club will not go down that track for many reasons.

I think a power forward-mid is right up there in terms of need. A Robbie Gray/Petracca type.
Without seeing him play, Rayner sounds exactly like the type of player I think we need (without me saying that he's the best available, or that he won't be gone before our pick etc.)
I only saw him for a half on the weekend and you are correct.

Although his beep test is a bit of a worry apparently. It has been suggested that his tank maybe an issue.

Looks to be a power athlete. I dont know enough to judge.

Thoughts?
Adelaide and GWS getting ripped

If Cas gets band 3 (pick 21) then-
Pick 3, pick 21 and 2018 first would get us Hopper and Kelly if they nominate us

I can't see us letting go of two firsts. I understand that there may be reasons to do, but I think SOS will work out another way.

Thinking again: There is now way SOS will let go two firsts.

I don't think we will either I'm just trying to point out that's it actually very easy now with future picks to find currency for trades

Thoughts?

Great effort!

I don't see it happening. I think too many clubs involved which means a lot of variables.

I think landing Kelly and Hopper will be a lot simpler especially if they nominate us.

Gibbs should land us #15 + #18
We should then see if we can offload that to the Hawks for their 2018 1st.

Pick #3 + pick #22 for Kelly. They can keep Hopper.

This way we go into 2018 draft with potentially 2 top 7 picks whilst still landing Kelly.

Losing Gibbs should be made up for by gaining Kelly. Losing Cas will be covered by McKay and/or Kerr.

We might take a bit of a hit again in wins but if we head into 2018 draft with 2 top 7, potentially even top 5 picks we will be laughing.

Those 2 beanstalks will go top 5 next year meaning we could end up with 2 of the best mids from next year's draft.

That does 2 things; it bolsters our young midfield and it prevents other clubs from having access to that young talent.
