Actually, Trigg is telling everyone what are path is.
He can't mention names now, as was the case for others, before him.
Come seasons end, if Trigg comes out and says, "We're getting Kelly", I'd be O.K. with that
 
Not sure he will have much more to offer after 2018 but given the way the list is structured, there are others who probably need to be shown the door first.

Weeks after removing a contractual clause to guarantee him an AFL deal for 2018, Dale Thomas is set to earn one through form.

I wouldn't be. The second you announce who you're getting is the second the cost on a player goes up because the pressure is on the team to get the deal done. See Gibbs, Bryce and the Adelaide Crows. Even though our price wouldn't have budged much, if at all, we didn't put the pressure and expectations of the entire AFL community on us like the Crows did.

Keep your lips sealed until the deal is across the line and then when it is you can publicly say that it was a long process getting the player across and that you'd targeted him for X amount of time. A perfect example of this is Buddy Franklin and the Sydney Swans. It almost came out of nowhere. Until it happened everyone was certain he was going to be a GWS Giant.

As much as I like the thought of trading for Kelly, competition from the Kangas and Saints will push the asking price too high. Whitfield and Hopper would both address two key list management priorities in my opinion

Players get to the club that they want (or they stay put) regardless of the other offers out there. I am confident that if Kelly wants Carlton we'll happily arrange a trade with GWS without screwing Kelly or the Giants over. We're not going to pull an Adelaide here. St. Kilda and North are offering ballooned crazy long deals. It's been documented how these favor the club but can have a negative long term financial impact on the player. Carlton will get a comparably short 3-year deal that favors both club and player. In three years Kelly will likely be able to demand more for years 4 to 6/7 than he would have gotten from St. Kilda or North originally. Besides, as Carlton shoot up and garner long-term success there's increased business opportunity for being tied to the success of a big name club than there is at being at a smaller club.

Happy with Daisy to be getting 3-400k next year. It'll be his last. He'll continue contributing as a very good club man where his deeds have been greatly appreciated by those at the club. He'll likely play between 8 to 18 AFL games but will be a handy veteran leader to younger players. He has earned this contract. The best thing that he and the club did in his regard was to waiver that trigger clause. Has allowed him to be seen in a more natural, non-financial light by the members. He never earned the deal but nobody stuck a gun to his head to make him sign it in the first place (or to the club's for offering it to him for that matter).

I understand the whole Palmer scenario, but Jones in the top 10 for player earning for this year, when we traded him in for a 3rd rounder?

So glad those days are behind us

A few places have alleged over the past couple of years that he's on relatively big coin (300k+)

I wouldn't worry. He's probably being offered a relatively small contract for a couple of years on OK money - he has a rising star nom under the belt, but is still only playing his first handful of games now in his second year. Manager is probably doing the right thing trying to delay the signing since he is playing and going well at the moment. Couple more weeks could net a decent increase on the final amount.

Unless he has a reason to want to leave, he'll re-sign.
