Well there goes Sam Reid AND Zak Jones for those of you who were interested
Jones would have been awesome, but they can keep Reid forever.

Good post with a lot of valid points. However, I still believe that it is a 66-game reset. I believe that the important parts here are that that means 4 draft and trading periods because we had one before a ball was bounced.
By claiming that it is an 88-game reset you're neglecting the core group of players that we began with. I see those as being Patrick Cripps, Sam Docherty, Ciaran Byrne and to a veteran extent Ed Curnow. Furthermore, the unlocking of Liam Jones AFL potential as a defender is a huge unexpected bonus. That gave us 5 players.
- T/D Period #1 (2015) -- Weitering, McKay, C Curnow, Cuningham, J Silvagni, Plowman + placeholders: Wright, Sumner, Lamb, Kerridge, Phillips (not including JGM yet)
- T/D Period #2 (2016) -- Marchbank, Pickett (?), Petrevski-Seton, Fisher (?), Macreadie, Williamson, Polson (?), Kerr (?) + placeholders: Smedts, Palmer, ASOS (Not including LeBois yet)
- T/D Period #3 (2017)
- T/D Period #4 (2018)
If you can get 6 from those four periods and the 5 you began with you already have 29 of your 30. Then you add 2+ per year after that.
Even more so than the six quality young players that we've been able to add is the fact we've been able to add EIGHT placeholders at a minimum who have been able to provide handy depth at worst with several headlined by Matthew Wright cementing themselves in the 22. This has been a revelation.
Ed Curnow is 28 now, after #4, he will be 30 and it is hard to know exactly how many more years we could get out of him. Same goes for Matty Wright, similar age. Alex Silvagni is two years older again so it is highly debateable whether he will still be around after #4.
Very easy to pick holes in hindsight, i have been a big fan of most deals and am very happy with the club/team this year. But i can't help but wish SOS pushed for a 3rd or 4th rounder instead of Kerridge or pushed for a 4th round pick or better instead of Smedts but other than those two small qualms he has done a great job.

it takes the swans out of the race.Reid re-signing doesn't hurt Levi's market value.
First time long time, no sugar coating.
Marc Murphy is not the person to lead Carlton and should be considered as trade bait (was my fav player early days).
Gibbs' best is good. His bad is again a shocking example for the kids.
When do they ever take games by the scruff and dominate?
Kruzer and Cripps more important than Gibbs and Murph.
Cash in and move on. Doc our next captain.

We tried that with Jaryd Cachia.Playing against better competition in the SANFL than he would have in the VFL. If he's good enough then I see no reason not to give him an opportunity via the rookie draft. He certainly wouldn't be the first kid to be delisted and then come back and make something of himself.
I wonder what our team has struggled to do this yearBlaine Johnson and Luke Reynolds kicking goals in the state comps.
