I'm with you on most of that Wick, makes it a more manageable operation.
My concerns though lies with the fact that of the names you listed in #1 & #2, there are too many I just cannot see being around that long or have serious question marks over whether they have the ability & wherewithal to make it or not (ie. the drafting failure rate).
Something else that just dawned on me that we have not yet considered is that there may be a player or two, who we hold in high regard, who may want to leave us for another club. Whilst us supporters will suggest that no-one would ever want to leave the Blues, it is not out of the question in this new era of trades & free agency.
A couple of other foibles to mull over are :
Ed Curnow is 28 now, after #4, he will be 30 and it is hard to know exactly how many more years we could get out of him. Same goes for Matty Wright, similar age. Alex Silvagni is two years older again so it is highly debateable whether he will still be around after #4.
To that end, I'd be comfortable banking on the following :
Existing : Cripps, Docherty & Jones
T/D Period #1 (2015) -- Weitering, McKay, C Curnow, Cuningham, J Silvagni & Plowman
- T/D Period #2 (2016) -- Marchbank, Petrevski-Seton, Fisher, Macreadie & Williamson
Anyone else who makes it outside of that lot is a massive bonus at this stage.

Given Ed's elite endurance type body he'll play to 32-33 especially given Charlie's position at the club.
With regards to Wright, Alex Silvagni, etc. I've only included those guys as placeholders. They're not players that I expect to be around the club when we're contending but they're wins and I've included them because they've proven to be handy depth in the mean time. Wright may well be for a year or two in that 23-30 ranked player at the club as we contend for finals (and more) while a couple of them may be ranked 30+. But those players that I listed before the placeholder status are the ones that I expect to be key contributors in the top 22 at the club.
Year #1: Weitering, McKay, C Curnow, Cuningham, J Silvagni, Plowman
Year #2: Marchbank, Pickett (?), Petrevski-Seton, Fisher (?), Macreadie, Williamson, Polson (?), Kerr (?)
If we can get three out of four ticks out of my question marks -- Pickett, Fisher (you have him listed as a tick), Polson and Kerr -- that gives us 13 from the past 2 years of recruiting to go along with Cripps, Docherty, Byrne and to a lesser extent Ed and Liam Jones. In reality, that means we'd already have 16+2 (Ed & Liam) already in place.
If we can manage a further 6 this year (2017 t/d) and a further 6 the following year (2018 t/d) that's 28+2 (Ed & Liam). There's your 30. Then your focus is on ticking over 2+ players per year rather than praying that you get 6. It keeps getting more and more difficult.
Insofar as any players on our list wanting to leave Carlton you'd expect at the very least to be able to interchange them with an incoming player of a similar age bracket. That may not be reality but the potential is there. As we get increasingly better you're going to have players you love wanting out because they're not getting a consistent game (ranked 23-30). Premiership teams like Hawthorn have faced this themselves and been successful (Jed Anderson). This is a natural consequence of successful list building and our fringe players being rated at other clubs as arguably better than what they are because of the development system they've been mentored through.
Until that stage the only reasons I'd see one of our talented players wanting out of the club for is money or family (or a culture clash). Hence why I'm all on the luring Ben McKay if Harry wants him to be at the same club.
I understand, I guess Menzel gave us Kerridge, Plowman, Lamb, Phillips and Sumner, so even if we say Plowman for Menzel then it is a win and the others are a backup of depth at the moment. I still have hopes for Phillips, as he is still young for a ruckman
I agree on Smedts, but we did get Marchbank because of that deal, plus Pickett and Palmer as the salary dump
If we had traded for picks, it only equates to 2 players anyway that could have been unknowns

Marc Murphy is not the person to lead Carlton and should be considered as trade bait (was my fav player early days).
Gibbs' best is good. His bad is again a shocking example for the kids.
When do they ever take games by the scruff and dominate?
Kruzer and Cripps more important than Gibbs and Murph.
Cash in and move on. Doc our next captain.

Definitively? No.
But Levi would be an obvious choice if Reid were to sign with another club and Tippett were on the move. Sinclair is a poor man's Levi, Cameron broke a finger and hasn't been seen since.

Playing against better competition in the SANFL than he would have in the VFL. If he's good enough then I see no reason not to give him an opportunity via the rookie draft. He certainly wouldn't be the first kid to be delisted and then come back and make something of himself.

Word is there were other issues going on in the back ground behind he's delisting.
Talent alone I think he was worth persisting with for another year or 2. Showed some signs and never really got a good shot at it.
Stupid substitute rule was not good for him.

I wonder what our team has struggled to do this year
I know he was named player of the week here one week recently and his stats were crazy. Something like around 40 touches (20+ contested and at over 80% eff) 10 tackles and 5 goals
