Others have said that they couldn't imagine leaving their career long friends behind, Kreuzer's the only one left.

It's an entirely different team and club to the one that Murphy developed and became captain in. It's time for Marc Murphy to be loyal to himself and his family. If that's staying at Carlton then good on him. But if he chose otherwise, you couldn't blame him.

No way Murph could live without the deep and meaningful conversations with Krooz :)

The same was being said about Cotchin last season. I seriously think the whole captaincy thing is overrated.
Hodge is the best leader I've seen since Voss and the first time he doesn't have a good team to lead the team turns to shit. Get the cattle and let the players decide who they want to lead them

Cotchin has played a much more physical and team oriented game this year. Gone are the dinky 2 for 1's backward of centre. He has been much more nose over the ball.

To his great credit, and team's benefit.

Murph is banged up. To his own credit, he has stopped a lot of his flopping for frees this year that had crept into his game.

But our team has to start earning the respect of the competition. We need change. Harder change.

And it is there....ready.

I just hope the playing group and Coaches are pro-active enough and it is still not "the older guy's team" from next year. Time to move on from Murphy, Gibbs, Simmo, Armfield as Leaders of the group.

Will be an interesting watch thru pre-season to see our approach.

I might have to take some of the flak for Cotchin and the Tigs' great year. Met them when they turned up at the Sunny Coast for their preseason trip at the place we were holidaying at for the weekend. They had a pretty rowdy night (we were there having dinner) and I grabbed Cotch to say g'day. Might've given him a rev up... perhaps as a loyal Bluebagger I should've given him a psych out or something - my bad *hands up*

And replace them with who? Weitering would have been the obvious one last year but he is further away now then he was then. I seriously can't think of one.....

Weitering...definately no. Let the kid concentrate on, and enjoy his own game for at least a few years.

Docherty as Captain and Cripps as Vice Captain. They are ready and by far our best options. Docherty will be a hard, firm leader from my observation. He will run a competitive and accountable ship.

The rest of the "leadership group" is far less important. I would have no qualms with Murphy, Curnow, Krooz or whoever the players and coaches decide.

The standards and direction will be led by the Coach, and the natural leaders of the next 8 year team.

I hope our group are pro-active enough and confident enough to take ownership of a NEW Carlton NOW.

If we're thinking of bringing in Saad in 2019 then the process of de-Gold Coastian him needs to start now. It'll be a lengthy process that could take more than a year.

He'll need to get used to eating high performance foods, cutting-edge gym training, acceptable skin fold levels for the AFL, media training, learning to follow logical and strategic game plans, intense psychological rescheduling, mental rehabilitation, how to interact with wider society - all in all, to become a modern day footballer.

It may be too late, but we need to start now while there's still hope.

IMO that's that's changing for the sake of change. We have leaders who are performing extremely highly in very hard circumstances and who the players want to lead them. Why throw them out?

Hearing from a few people that harry McKay may ask to be traded to north so he can play along side his brother, he isn't to happy about not getting a game and would much rather play along side his brother

Just signed a contract and didn't want to play with his brother.
Don't listen to all you hear.

Doubtful he's upset at the club about not playing given he's injured. Bolts has publicly stated that they're keen to get him back on the park before the end of the season.

Harry was managed the same way Cunners was - spend the majority of the year in the VFL and then get a run of games at the back-end of the season. He just had to wait an extra year after have stress reactions in his back last year.

Given he's signed, is it Ben seeking a trade to Carlton? He hasn't got any games yet.

Can be easy to confuse the two.

Not having a go at you, but this is the complete opposite to what I have heard.
He's meant to be a tremendous young fella, the club rate him incredibly highly and have made him aware of this and informed him about the planned slow approach they are taking.
Would be very very surprised if he left. Isn't seen as a flight risk.

Best time to ask for a trade is the same season you signed a contract extension in?

Sure, why not.

Wont most of this happen by eating and acquainting himself with restaurant owners in Lygon street ?
