I honestly feel we will apply for a PP and get one. Which will then put us in the second round again. So if we don't facilitate any big trades we will still be well placed in the draft. This as well as the scenario where Cas potentially leaves and we receive another good pick for him. It might only mean a couple of places up the ladder next year, and a few more wins, but boy we would start to be flush with some great exciting youth. Then next year we try again for those big trades and or FA. As someone pointed out awhile ago, there is still this year and next years trade/draft period as part of the 66 game reset.

My dream trade scenario.

1. Apply and recieve priority pick = #18
2. Recieve Band 3 Compo for Casboult = #20
3. Trade Pick #1 to GWS for Kelly.

Call it there.

If Gibbs goes, take two first round picks for him. Or a pick and a player.

If Gibbs goes fire off our Priority Pick to GWS for Hopper.

Grab Balic with our 4th Round pick.

Hit the draft with 2-4 picks inside the top 20. Happy Days.

Kelly is going to cost 1.2M? Pick 1? What does that do to the fabric of the club? What happens when Cripps/Curnow etc want 1.2M a year because Kelly gets it?

Look at the successful clubs over the last 20 years, they all build a core from the draft, all players buy into the dream, they become a destination club and fill holes by selling said premiership dream not money. I say keep pick 1, keep money for free agents for when we are ready with a well balanced list with all parties paid fairly and let Kelly ruin the culture at the kangaroos.

The reality is, taking away *'s drug suspension wooden spoon, if Brisbane beat North and we fail to win a game we'll have "won" the last two genuine wooden spoons. If that's not grounds for a PP given the equalisation of the competition then nothing will be ever again. That's my personal opinion aside.

My personal opinion? If the club applies for a priority pick and fails to get one then the AFL ought to come out and rule that there will never again be a priority pick handed out to any club unless agreed upon by a majority of the member clubs.

What would be the grounds for the member clubs to agree to 'award' priority pick(s) in the future if that was the case, you may ask. Obviously it'd be something absolutely unforeseeable. For example, a plane crash that devastated an entire club. Perhaps it would be something where a club has been found to have been corrupted (not necessarily rorted the competition), cleaned out everyone responsible and is essentially on its knees.

No way should we apply or get a PP. We can do this without handouts. We have won 12 games in two years and plenty of talent on the list. The shame and stigma is too much to handle. Let's continue with the plan...the last two years we have added at least 12 decent young footballers to our list. 5 more this off season and we are rocking

You are right and I appreciate those facts, but it is nothing more than a gut feeling after an interview with Gill Mc a few weeks ago where he stated that he would like to find a way to fast track clubs that are rebuilding. He spoke about Carlton specifically, and how well we have done.
I just feel that there might be a little positive surprise from the AFL at seasons end that's all.

the average player is on $379k next year (or similar) including the 20 or so who dont play seniors regularly. not sure $400k is an overly generous offer. clubs concern would be length of contract. ideally we would offer $500k for 2. hopefully by then he is superseded. clearly levi will be looking for a longer term as this is his last big pay day. if we tabled that offer and he received a better offer elsewhere we would be in a position to gain the compensation that we require.

Why the **** would we offer him $500K when he's not worth $379K per annum already ?? If he was offered a three deal by the club he should be signing it in a damn hurry IMO.

Believe me I want any youngster on our list to make out, but I was stunned on draft night that we picked him, if you were to have told me we would draft one from Haileybury from that draft class at #59 I would've been near certain it would've been Brayshaw.

But I'm not sure if its been stated but Polson's best game in his draft year of 2016 was against Xavier, note which recruiters son's goes to Xavier, anyway if SOS was at this game its fair to see why he drafted him off the first minute or so of his highlight package:

Not such a fan of Polson, I'm assuming he'll be here in 2018 based on being a national draft but I don't think he's up to it. I don't know what others have seen that I haven't, saw him play school football in 2015 and 2016 and was hardly a standout in my opinion.

I would like to see a clear-out of our rookie list too.
Glass-McCasker by circumstance has a lot of other youngsters ahead of him in defence, and considering we would need to promote him I don't think he'll be retained.
Sheehan despite being plagued by injuries I don't think has shown enough when we saw him at senior level in 2017 to keep, he's 27 at the end of the year as well.
Gallucci hasn't seemed to threaten senior selection in his two years here.
Korchek I would like to see replaced with either a senior state league ruckman or a youngster out of the TAC at that 4th ruck spot.
A.Silvagni was certainly competent at senior level this season and is worth giving another year too.
LeBois upside is also worth continuing with in my opinion in 2018 as well.

Polson had some excellent games in the VFL before injury got to him.
He slowed down significantly after that and looked second rate.

All I can say is that his best games were so much better than many other previous first year players I won't name now.

Yet some want to downgrade from Casboult to Redpath or similar to get a pick in essentially the same spot as the PP, to help the rebuild.

Ask for the PP and keep Casboult, already better off.

Andy Maher is pretty confident that Gibbs in now staying.
If that is so, that's fine. Gibbs has a contract and if things have changed, we can't push him out of the door.

It does though stifle our chances of trading hard.
After Gibbs, we really don't have much else that we'd want to trade with.

There is still the possibility of FA compo, trading future picks or trading pick 1-3 this year. If SOS knows Gibbs is staying then he will be planning as we speak.

Agree that we shouldn't pay more then $1mil (what he is worth and is fair) because that is where we could make players disgruntled and there is nothing surer the Cripps and Curnow getting huge offers when they come out of contract. The problem is Cripps and Curnow will also be a lot more likely to look around if we don't improve soon.
Dogs did buck that trend a little though.

We have fewer wins in the last 3 seasons than brisbane did when they were given theres last season.
