If I were an FBI profiler, I might have suspicions that Hird is does not fit the character profile of a man who would a) Take his own life, and/or b) Not succeed in such an endeavour if attempted with real purpose.
I might think to myself that he would fit the profile of a person capable of calculating the desired outcome of a failed attempt however.

Luckily enough I'm not an FBI profiler so I'll just wish James good health, a speedy recovery and for him to find some peace within himself.

All the best Hirdy!
maybe the case .....however have you heard of "the straw that breaks the camels back" .....normally the smallest incident, which most would dismiss, is enough to break the dam

Seems to me that Connelly should look in own backyard first, as it's his own profession that continues to camp outside Hirds house .......total hypocrite blaming social media that Hird wouldn't read anyway .....but everyday he backs his car out of the driveway there the media are (yes Connelly your mates )

To get to the position where he made the choice to try and commit suicide he obviously has gone past rational thought. He has to be suffering from major depression so logic goes out the window. He needs help big time and hopefully there are no physical consequences of his actions and mentally over time he can get better.
Yeah tend to agree , disliking the bloke is different to feeling some empathy that its got to this

I hope he sees better days and can redeeem himself in his own eyes to some degree moving forward and be a positive person in his kids lives

Unfortunately not that easy ......Hird has always had a self image of a successful man, in both sport and business ......i suspect that his self image ATM is more of a man viewing himself as a failure

All the positive rhetoric is fine ....but his issues are currently more deep rooted than a simple "hope you get better"

Yep, know it well.
Not saying that this is the case, just that I haven't seen the possibility raised yet and that It does happen.

Coincidence that he would have been in deep discussion with Gaz Lyon of late also.

One of the news reports I heard today said his employment at this time was selling chocolates??

?..strange .....also read that Tania is no longer an active lawyer, but runs a IIRC a skincare product business .......obviously Tania doesn't want James involved

Would have thought the Hirds have enough money to either start or buy a business for James?

Was covered by an Essendon benefactor ......not sure if it was 100%, but the majority was (the amount the insurance company didn't cover)

Including the final challenge when he went against the club's wishes? Wasn't that when he sold his house?

Yes that's the amount we're talking about ....IIRC approx $600K

Think there's no relationship between that bill and the house being sold .....the house sale was probably just real estate profiteering

THE deported bikie dad of AFL star Dustin Martin, who wanted to return to Australia because he believed he was of Aboriginal descent, has had his claim rejected.

In March, Shane Martin, 49, was one of 81 bikie gang members or associates to have their visas cancelled by Immigration Minister Peter Dutton as part of a crackdown by the Federal Government.

Despite living in Australia for the past 20 years, Mr Martin was booted back to New Zealand, leaving his family to battle authorities and have the deportation order overturned.

$600k legal bill on top of everyday expenses when you have lost your job would take a hit.

I'm not being flippant. TO me it is the ultimate act of selfishness. When you see the aftermath suicide brings to those left behind, there is no way anyone could believe they chose this path for the good of everyone else. The guilt felt by loved ones is immeasurable and everlasting. There is no respite for them, ever. James has four little children. Can you imagine the impact on them if he'd succeeded? Hird needs help. He has for a very long time. I hope now he can acknowledge that and work towards recovery.

Need someone to clarify - 4 little children? I' m not so sure on this - one would be 18 I reckon.

If that legal bill was covered by the benefactor .....then the profit from property deals and the $1M advanced contract payment would mean that financially they're ok .......however in these situation the finances are the least of concerns .....marriage , family, self image and self worth takes a much higher priority

If you have been involved in illegal activity & not an Australian citizen, it's not unreasonable to be deported...
IMO one of the great govt decisions i can remember ......clear them out of the country & i hope they take the same view here in Melbourne with the Apex Gang

Apex is a street gang in Melbourne, Australia. It was formed in 2012. [citation needed] The founding members were part of Victoria's South Sudanese community, although the gang later became more diverse, particularly after it merged with the YCW gang.

173 Criminals, including two from the Apex gang, set for deportation ...

Nov 6, 2016 - TWO young thugs linked to the violent Apex street gang will be deported after their visas were revoked under tough new migration laws. ... The young men are just two of 173 foreign thugs living in Victoria whose visas have been cancelled in the past financial year.

It's hard to draw conclusions from afar in situations like this - hard because you don't really know, and hard because you don't want to make assumptons and cast aspersions on people you don't know, when all you've got to go on is the media. And the vibe. But I have to say, it seems to me:

1. Yes, James had Golden Child syndrome. Could do no wrong, had never been held to account for a mistake, sheltered and spoiled.
2. This was exacerbated - IMO, and from afar - by a wife who was not only overly protective but a lawyer to boot. And possibly domineering. So she would have been driving a lot of the "don't admit anything, drag them through the courts" and James, having no experience in this sort of thing, and no understanding of what it's like to be anything other than a Golden Child, went along with her.

So I reckon Tanya's got a lot to answer for.

With all of that it's no wonder their marriage failed, because of either or both (a) Tanya's bailed on a guy with a lot less money and prospects than he had, and/or (b) James grew a pair and started pushing back, possibly even having a sharp word or two about all that terrible advice she had given him.

It's not like me to gossip about the private lives of public figures :$ but I can't help thinking (and writing) the above.

Did she leave him?
