Universal Love 2017 Potential Player Milestones

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Thought I would make a thread to chart our players with potential milestone games in 2017 and their progress towards them

250 games
Joel Selwood (22 games needed)

200 games
Patrick Dangerfield (22 games needed)
Tom Lonergan (14 games needed)
Tom Hawkins (11 games needed)

150 games
Mitch Duncan (15 games needed)
Lachie Henderson (14 games needed)
Scott Selwood (10 games needed)

100 games
Rhys Stanley (13 games needed)
Zac Smith (12 games needed)
Mark Blicavs (10 games needed)

50 games
Lincoln McCarthy (26 games needed)
Jed Bews (19 games needed)
Darcy Lang (16 games needed)
George Horlin-Smith (10 games needed)
Daniel Menzel (9 games needed)

Obviously we won't have 2 milestones as significant as the Enright and Bartel ones that we had last year but I can't remember a year in recent memory where we have had so many potential player milestones in one year. It will be interesting to chart who actually makes it to them.

At a guess we'll have 11 milestones next season, maybe 12 If I get through a game sober.

If Tom Hawkins can equal his 2016 haul of 55 goals for the year in 2017, he'll move to #4 on Geelong's all-time leading goal kickers list (moving past '25 Premiership players Cliff Rankin & Lloyd Hagger, and also Lindsey White and Bill Brownless).
Would take a big 2017 for him to displace Steve Johnson at #3, would need 66 goals - but will comfortably end his career there behind Wade and Ablett.

Shame big larry didnt play more games too

haha yup, true - a couple of years before my time, never had the pleasure of seeing him play
Brought me a great deal of pleasure. He was great on the lead, good hands and a very good kick. Big boy with big locks. Sat in my old torana waiting for him to kick the big ton.

Now a bad couple of players to be looking up to when you've finished your career.

Me too,he didn't need many opportunities to hurt you on the score board, had the odd spell in the ruck but normally could be found in the goal square, a true stay at home full forward, should have kicked the ton again in 78 had a chance in the Elimination final but unfortunately left the kicking boots at home that day, normally very reliable though.
I'd like to see big Tom adopt a version of the Laughing Larry style of game(it would suit him better than him pushing up the ground) I always feel uneasy when I see him up on the halfback line or the wing.

Will the skipper be the next Cat to reach 300 games?

Only really needs 2-3 more years after 2017 to get there, considering he is contracted long term anyway I would expect him to get there unless he gets any major injuries.

We will be going well as a team if he can get there in 3 years he would need a few finals, whether or not he can get up for that 4th year is the question, all the miles on his clock have been hard off road so far and he knows no other way.Might just fall short but I hope not.

Menzel reaching 50 would be the most significant 50 game milestone I can think of. Incredible effort by him & the club. What a star.
To think, but for injury he'd probably be on par with Mitch Duncan

His lowest games per year is 20 so if he averages that for the rest of his contract (2019) he would only need 1 more full year after that (in 2020) to get there in which he would be 32.

I know it's sad what might have been. But still if he can play 50-100 games and play in a flag I will be happy.

As I say I hope he makes it but he will turn 33, rd10, 2020,so will have to go on longer than Jimmy will the body hold up that's my only concern.

Pretty sure he was born in 88 so should be 32 not 33 then.

I remember him well as I grew up in Thomson and Larry was a senior Prefect at East Geelong Tech when I was first at East Tech and he played his footy at Thomson prior to his VFL days. I thought he was a giant when I was a kid.

Larry would have played more footy but he was plagued by shoulder problems.

I was at School with John Scarlett and I thought the same,I'd be his playing weight now but he'd still have me for height.:(
