Will be in europe at the end of this and through most of next year boyos. So won't be able to catch up on the off-season, nor the regular season. However, i feel we're in for a few changes and 2018 should be massive. Will even rep the lions Guernsey in norway a bit
Yeah it's a struggle going to these third world countries such as Norway, who don't even have dial up internet.

Student exchange. Will be spending my final year at uni studying in Norway. Pretty hyped for it, but i will have to find a way to catch lions games overseas, haha. Thanks though fam

The app is mostly okay. You can get an overseas membership that comes with a couple of goodies and the year long subscription.

Lucky you. Wish I'd done a student exchange after having friends do it. Was in Norway a few years ago in the middle of summer and just walked into a fjord at hip depth and picked up a few kg' s of mussels to cook for dinner. One of the best meals I've ever had.

Belgian mussels are better.

No need for Trengove. We have Harris and Mcstay to hold down the 2 KPD spots for the next decade. Dizzy can take the 3rd tall. Walker can play down back as well if needed. Would rather use that list spot on someone else
McStay got long way to go to be a reliable chb and Gardiner, who has played couple of good games lately, makes far too many mistakes for mine and is better chance to playing at St Joseph's by 2020 than at the lions.

And Walker can't go back it's embarrassing. If Andrews or McStay go down next year, the replacements are Frost and Eagles

Did you not watch the game last week? Gardiner was close to our best and got us out of trouble numerous times. He's coming along nicely. You have got to remember he is still very young.

There is no doubt that one of our deficiencies is how many points we concede. (1 of our worst stats compared to other clubs) That needs to be addressed with further improvement from our young defenders BUT, we need to look at strengthening our backline with another 1 or 2 good defenders. Another issue is the lack of our centre clearances which has put enormous pressure on our guys down back. I have no doubt our coach's/list managers are on it.

A player who is having difficulty with the team system is Jack Watts from Melbourne - he would be a pretty good asset to Lions.
Outside of goldfish bowl of Melbourne would benefit from a change in club.
Might offer more than McVeigh etc.

I don't mind this idea at all. We don't have this kind of player at this point. Third tall capable of 35 plus goals a season and some flexibility to plug holes around the ground. Might be a good fit for both us and him. Melbourne could hardly expect a high pick given he hasn't been regular best 22.

I agree McStay still needs work but he has showed some very promising signs. You are totally wrong with Gardiner. Will be a very good player and already has shown this year what he can offer. Last week he was superb. Remember these guys are in there 4th year of AFL not there 8th.

We have the worst differential of inside 50s compared to opposition. In other words, we don't get the ball inside 50 enough and our opponents get it in too often. And we aren't last in this stat by a small margin. Our differential is -14.9. The next worst is -6.

The best time to be a defender is when your teammates have locked the ball in your forward 50. The worst time to be a defender is when the ball is entering your defensive 50. So, we have managed to create the absolute worst environment for a defender to perform. And I want to reiterate the point - we are a shitload worse than any other side in that respect.

So the performance of our defensive group must be judged in that light. They aren't dealing with ordinary circumstances. They are facing the worst case scenario pretty much every week. In that regard, I think the performances of Andrews, McStay, Gardiner and co are to be absolutely applauded. Their teammates further afield are the weak points in terms of our defence. That's where our recruitment attention needs to be focused. The defence, IMO, is not a priority area to be resolved or, at least, we can be reasonably confident that it will be solved with natural development of the existing talent.

Disagree. Our key back (Harris) is 20 years old who needs help. I agree to what you say about the entries into our defensive 50 being far too many but we desperately need at least 1 mature age (being 24 years old or more) defender who can ease the constant pressure off Harris/Dan & Dizz. You cannot only judge a defensive groups performance by the number of times it comes into their zone. There are many other performance factors included as to why we have so many points scored against us. IMO its a 2 pronged issue. Inexperience down back & number of entries into our defensive 50 as my first post above states. Both of these are priorities to be looked at imo.

We would all like Alex Rance. Not going to happen. In reality, with Sam going down again, we must trust in what we have - and match Ballandean as a priority. No point in selling the farm for another B grader like Frost.

Alex Rance????? Who mentioned him???? You really think this group of coaching staff would make another decision to get a "B grader like Frost"?

I'd be interested to see numbers on scores per inside 50, or something which supports a conclusion that the defenders are struggling relative to how often and how it comes in. I'm not sure any senior defender would meaningfully ease the pressure on Andrews and McStay if the ball still comes in 10 more times per game than it does for any other side (15 or 20 more than the good sides). To my eye, both of them perform fairly well in one-on-ones but struggle when they're caught out of position from turnovers (we still turn it over a lot).

I think the most impactful thing we could do for our defenders is to get the ball into our forward half more often and to keep it there.
