Geez, i must be off my head because i think our back6-8 is the strength of our time. Andrews, McStay and Gardiner are gelling beautifully as our key defenders with Darcy playing the zoning role well. Robertson is the hard edged and hard running defender. Sam Mayes has really developed his 1 on 1 game and is hard to beat as well as improving his disposal in transition. Witherden and Rich give us class with the ball and soon Cedric Cox will give us dash we have not seen at the gabba since Aker.

Our midfield is a concern, it is older and we don't have great 2 way running ability. This will be addressed at this draft. Our forward line is a work in progress and I am positive we will be hunting that hybrid mid/forward type either through a trade or in the draft.
How would you rate our defensive effort today against the 2nd bottom team ?

A) no you can't say whatever you want in a forum both online or in person hence the presence of moderation

B) I actually did read all you posts and had absolutely no issue with you expressing your opinion on Gardiner even if I disagree with some of it and find other parts valid. That is borne out by the fact I didn't comment on any of you other posts on the subject. However I'm absolutely within my rights as another poster on this forum to object to someone posting something that isn't an opinion but a bold faced lie and completely made up

I suggest you have a think about the difference between the two.
What is the bold face lie I have written? Highlight it please, haven't lied at all FatCat

I second what FWG posted above. Don't go, all opinions welcome, I disagreed with your Darcy Gardiner views but I hope I did it in a respectful manner.

No need to take disagreements personally unless the comments were overly personal and IIRC they weren't.
Your right I'm better than that I'll stay on board thanks for the Jedi words.

He is just rubbish and surely any other key would've been better than the shit Close has served up. Jordan Lisle offered more.
Jordan was b.o.g and kicked 4 for Port 2 weeks ago, says something about that comp.

Calm down Lions Lions.......there is nothing wrong with a little heated debate. It just needs to be done in a respectful way without being offensive. I enjoy reading your posts and would be disappointed if posters like yourself stopped providing up with your thoughts & incite into the happenings around the club. All good from me. :thumbsu:
Back on board , cold shower worked a treat

In other news those that have been saying Witherden is a future brownlow medalist are spot on.

Jordan is a changed man, he plays to his strengths in the VFL , lead up marking and pack marking. He's an outstanding set shot, he just couldn't play AFL because he was too slow. He's even somewhat slow in the VFL but if you can mark and kick straight at that level you can be an impact forward which he's done really well this year. Make no mistake the VFL is a very good comp. It will probably produce 6-7 draftees this year inc rookies.

Nobody said this. Think that's fatcats point.
I said 'anybody who thinks', highlighting the optimism of which some of our posters are talking up our backline 'like its a top 8' type backline. I at no stage I said that anybody actually said it BRAB, that's what's got me angry yesterday. My words were clear and literal. I think FatCat is wrong, and I'll stand up for myself being called a liar and told to 'cut the shit' like he is in charge. From where I come from, being called a liar is a big insult. Anyway that's the last I'll say on it, been blown out of proportion just like Brissy were blown out today in a major way by the second bottom team. I'd rather talk about how we can better our lineup.

Now i was at the game brother and our issue was around the footy all over the ground. If you were at the ground you would've thought our back six had little to no chance due to our lack of midfield pressure. We are currently addressing our midfield deficiencies and will continue to do so.

If Rockliff goes should net us pick 19 I'd be hoping we could nab Worley with that or package 18 and 19 for like pick 12 and a pick in the 30's

Couldn't agree more Acu.

It is almost as though the thought process of some is "we're having trouble defending, it must be the defenders' fault". Modern footy just doesn't work like that.

I'd much rather spend the next 12 months driving our midfield and forward line to become much better defensively and continue to allow our current crop to grow and build combinations. Sure, if a high quality tall defender came onto the market, I'd be happy to look at it but not at the expense of adding more midfield depth or a quality small forward who will help with forward half defensive pressure. Those two are the highest priorities for me.

If we get 12 months down the track, we've fixed up our contested footy, clearances, tackling, inside 50s conceded and defensive structures and our defence still isn't stopping the opposition from scoring, then I'm more than happy to go to the market.

I'm increasingly of the opinion that it's our work across HF that is the main problem. I put this down to our forward line being dysfunctional (see our minuscule I50 numbers. I'm guessing if you could see a heat map of turnovers 90% would be between the center square and the 50m line due to us faffing around with the footy due to indecisiveness and poor leading patterns by our forwards.

I've been thinking the same thing. It's frustrating, but also seems like it should be fairly easily fixed with time and a bit more experience.

Defending in footy now is more like a basketball full court press. Everyone's a defender when you don't have the ball, you can't get away with letting it get past half way before applying some pressure.

I think GWS will get Carltons pick 3 (Hopper will be part of trade IMO) which they will use to grab Rayner. I wonder if we can make enough noise about taking Rayner they might pony up a great deal for pick 1? Will probably miss out on Dow but Cerra will be ours + another high pick which we can use for trade currency or take to draft.

Not great. Feel for our back six, little or no pressure from the forward 50 right through the middle of the ground. Most of the defensive effort (if you could call it that) coming from our forwards and mids was basic boundary corrals, there was no inferred pressure on north cause we weren't completing tackles up the ground, with that in mind I thought our defensive six played as well as they could be expected to under that kind of duress.

I was particularly impressed by Rich's game a great balance offense and defense, leading the way the whole game.

Overall I thought our team defense was poor, effort was just not there yesterday, but alot of positives from this season. No doubt we are on the improve.

Side note mate keep posting. Everyone is entitled to their veiw. Love your work

Some talk on the Essendon board of a Lions offer for Connor McKenna. Exciting, elite pace, and good foot skills. Charlie Cameron is obviously another bloke we have been linked to as well. If we manage to grab Dow + those trades we will have some decent pace in our side you would think.

Would love to get McKenna.
McKenna, Cameron, Christensen, Dow, McCluggage, Berry, Cox, NRobbo... very zippy.
Not sure how we get McKenna, Cameron, Dow & Ballenden though.
I'm also keen on bringing in Payne & Sambono.
What would we have to give up for McKenna?
Recruit FA McVeigh.
Delist or trade Jansen, Close, Freeman, Jansen, Harwood, Bell, Bewick, Paparone, Clayton, William, Grewar, Hinge, Hammelman.
Put Eagles, Barrett, CBeams on 1 year.
Put McInerney, Rockliff on 2 year.
Rerookie CHanley. Hopefully the Irish boys visiting the club at the moment are impressive and we become the destination for Irish recruits.

Yeah that was talked about in here yesterday or the day before. Not many seemed keen on the idea which surprised me. McKenna is severely underrated on this board. He's a genuine gun in the making. His pace and kicking skills are superb.

1: Dow
14: Connor McKenna
18: Charlie Cameron
How do we still get Ballenden? Lose Rockliff I guess.
Would I prefer McKenna or Rockliff? McKenna...

Or, trade 1 for 2 high enough picks to get a good future elite mid and Ballenden...?

Which club would trade for Pick 1, giving us enough to get Dow, McKenna, Cameron and not part ways with Rocky?

I would love to get McKenna but for pick 14? Naaa.
