For sure I'd rather develop Barrett honestly, he has the potential to be a good forward. Sicily isn't a need right now and we could use the pick we'd trade for him to get a decent young player.
Barrett good defensively, but lacks offensive weapons.

Would love Sicily but going forward I don't know we could fit so many talls into the forward line. I see Sicily as more a smart leading 3rd tall which is something we are definitely lacking and in need of but when you factor in Hipwood, Schache and possibly Ballenden as the ruck-forward we are top heavy. Would be ideal if Ballenden can ruck 85%+ of the game and he can take over from Martin... then I think he could be a good fit but needs to work on his lack of defensive pressure if he wants that role.

Didn't see all of their match last week but I thought I saw him playing in defence.

A friend of mine who knows a bit about what is going on at Hawthorn reckons James Sicily is interested in coming to the Lions.

Really? Wouldn't mind him at all at the right price though can't say he's really a need. Can never have enough marking targets that kick goals though I guess.

Shows a bit every now and then. Can clunk a few contested grabs in a row when he's up and about.
I know full well the position we are in with attracting players but I really dislike the thought of Sicily.. there is an unpleasant arrogance about him.
Either he is getting offered a bit more coin up here and thinks he can walk in to a spot (maybe he can, I dunno) or he is lacking in the mates department at Hawthorn. Perhaps both.
I agree. Anyone seeking to come to the Lions obviously has something wrong with them.

Stands to reason.

Fagan factor?

I don't mind Sicily, can really clunk a mark, plays like a player a lot taller than his 186cm, would be an ideal 3rd tall type ah la Tom Lynch (Crows), but if it was between him and Charlie Cameron I would be going Cameron and leave the rest of the ins to the draft.

Unless of course we are a chance at Jacob Hopper, Matthew Kennedy or Josh Kelly from the Giants.:)

Don't want Sicily, just don't think there is a massive need for him. Can't keep getting in these B/C graders just because they want to come. We have to start being really rutheless and thinking "are they actually gonna contribute to our next premiership and is it worthwhile for what we would have to trade them for?" In positive news, l believe Fagan and Noble are starting to do this.

Sicily has A grade talent. We've got blokes with less football talent who we think have long term potential. The question is whether he can turn that A grade talent into regular senior contributions.

He's that in between size as a forward which is a nice to have rather than integral. As a defender, I think he shows something but I dunno that we're in the market for a mid sized defender.

I personally don't think he's the type that we'd go chasing hard. If he happens to fall into our hands, I wouldn't say no.

Wouldnt be giving up any more than a third round pick for him. Or maybe a straight swap for Bewick.

I don't know about Sicily having A grade talent necessarily. He's a very good medium marking type who doesn't need much of the ball to kick multiple goals, but he doesn't seem to have added much to his game in terms of ability when the ball hits the ground, defensive pressure, or ability to work up the ground.

If say Hawthorn finish 17th and the Saints around 10th I wonder whether a trade of Picks 1 and 18 to St. Kilda for 2 and 9 would be on the cards. Not sure whether they would do that though, maybe if they were particularly keen on a certain player.

It works out points wise. It would be a great deal for us!

Why would St Kilda do that?

There's got to be a clear top talent, that suits a big need, for a club to want to jump up to pick 1. Rayner could be that talent this year.

From a Brisbane perspective, I would certainly consider the trade in certain circumstances. But it's a big gamble to trade away a potential game wining talent. My personal opinion is that there is a talent drop off after about the top 14 players. So trading 1 & 18 for 2 & 10 makes sense on one level. But the two players that would suit our needs may not be there at 10.

Cameron Rayner
Luke Davies-Uniacke
Adam Cerra

Jaidyn Stephenson
Darcy Fogarty*
Lochie O'Brien
Paddy Dow
Nichloas Coffield

Jarrod Brander
Lachlan Fogarty
Joel Garner
Jack Higgins
Jack Petrucculle
Andrew Brayshaw

Sam Hayes**
Hunter Clark
James Worpel

*Darcey Fogarty apparently has a knee injury that has been hampering for much of the season. But I'm iffy on having him in the top 10, as his performances have been poor after a very good start to the season.

**Sam Hayes should be in the top dozen or so players on talent, but being a ruck, I'm not sure is a team will pick him inside the top 14 or so.

Stephenson is very athletic and knows where the goals are, but his field kicking has been pretty average. I also have genuine concerns about his frame, and ability to put on the size required for AFL. He's very outside, and there are concerns about his contested possession ability.

Agree regarding the issues of St. Kilda doing the deal, would only work if they were particularly keen on a certain player, say Rayner for example (as you have mentioned), and as I said in the original post.

I would be happy with either Rayner or LDU with our first and this deal would essentially allow us to take an additional player at Pick 9ish rather than pick 18, but yes I agree that it would hinge on St. Kilda's desire to do the deal.

I wonder if pick 1 would be enough for pick 6 and 10 cause as the ladder sits now thats st kildas picks. However I wonder if st kilda would want a top end pick or more mature depth considering they are on the edge of the 8 or in the 8

Pick 6 doesn't do it for me. It's outside the top end mids/talents, and right amongst the guys who were all rated as high picks but haven't (yet) performed up to expectations this year.
