If he could strike a bit more balance I can certainly see the benefit. For his first real go at it he did pretty well albeit a bit too defensively for my liking. To have the ability to win clearances on top of that makes him super valuable imo, not to mention making an opponent accountable Going forward with his marking. I think there's a hybrid role there that could be very beneficial especially as our young guys develop their defensive game
It's a pros vs cons thing l reckon. Would we have prefered Rocky to be slightly less defensive so that he has more offensive power or vice versa. I think that Gibbs was one of their prime movers, so to completly nullify him even at the expense of his own game was terrific. But, yes a balance on more games would be great. Probably our best tagger (based on that game) since Raines (miss him tagging Abblet)

Nicholls is a decent player. Lazy but if he can overcome that he will have a good 6-8 years left in him IMO. He loves to tackle which is something we haven't had in a ruck for ever. I can understand why people wouldn't want him though. I highly doubt he'd be at the Suns next season anyway.
Since charman

Just feel like it would be a waste. He is arguably our best clearance player, not sure if we would want to use him for tagging. Remains to be seen if he could work off his opponent as he only got around 8 disposals iirc
Yeah would be a lot of cash to burn on a tagger if that was to happen.

Yeah, I don't see that being a long-term thing, more the intersection of Gibbs's importance to Carlton, Rocky's form and confidence being off, and MRobbo being out. We've seen MRobbo do some very good jobs in the past, and he'll probably get some more of them in the future.

Love the idea getting cameron, that will fix up some of our outside pressure and pace, but I really hope we have another one in the pipeline. Hopefully an inside mid in that 24-26 bracket with elite potential. Getting greedy I know

Jacob Hopper would fit the bill although he is only 20 years of age.

The mainstream media are finally reporting talk about Charlie Cameron. Foxfooty/Jake Niall

THE Brisbane Lions will explore ways to lure Crows forward Charlie Cameron to the club.
Sources have confirmed that the Lions have a strong interest in Cameron, with reports suggesting the forward may initiate a move back to Queensland.

Cameron was drafted from Western Australia but he and his family are originally from Queensland and he also has a relationship with Lions head of football David Noble, from Noble’s days at the Crows.

The Lions have two first-round draft picks — their own, currently Pick 1 on ladder position, and Port Adelaide’s first pick — in this year’s national draft.

But the fact that Cameron is contracted for 2018 is a significant hurdle and would put Adelaide in a stronger bargaining position if the forward wanted out.

The Crows also could take a hard line and simply refuse to trade him, as Carlton did with Bryce Gibbs.

Adelaide is yet to sign young guns Jake Lever and Mitch McGovern, who have significant offers from clubs in their home states — particularly Lever, who is being courted by Melbourne, Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs, while West Coast and Fremantle are vying for McGovern.

Cameron was one of the first players requested by Carlton when Adelaide made its unsuccessful bid to secure Gibbs in last year’s trade period.

The 23-year-old moved to Western Australia as a teenager, having grown up in Queensland — where he excelled in both rugby codes.

He was drafted from WAFL club Swan Districts at Pick 7 in the 2013 Rookie Draft.

Cameron has spent the majority of his career up forward but has shown he is capable of running through the midfield.

He has played 66 games since his debut, booting 80 goals — and is one of the best-value recruits from recent drafts and is another example of Adelaide’s superb draft record.

Wasn't really at the expense of his own game... That was the role he was required to do for the team ...IIRC, we smashed the clearances.. I made the comparison to Ling as he was extremely effective at shutting players down and still winning clearance and dangerous going forward. (Shutting Swan completely down in the '11 GF comes to mind).. don't mind him adding that bow to his game.

Charlie Cameron news broke here 2 months before main media knew about it, as always.
Yeah but imagine being a journo and having to read 18 club boards on BigFooty to get your info. That takes time my friend hence why Jake Niall has only just cottoned on.:p

Thought this was was interesting, Hammo from the courier mail. I think someone suggested the same a while back.

FIVE THINGS WE LEARNT ABOUT THE LIONS

1. The Bob Murphy travelling emergency saga came to a predictable conclusion when the skipper was a late inclusion for Jason Johannisen. Brisbane weren’t fooled given no club sends a veteran interstate unless they’re planning to play.

2. Josh Walker has breathed new life into a career that was on the scrap heap at the bye. There was talk within the Lions of paying out contracts to free up list and salary cap space to lure a big fish and Walker would have been near the top of the list. His form over the past month would have changed that.

3. If injuries ultimately end the Bulldogs’ finals chances they will rue their two trips to Queensland. Two weeks ago they lost Dale Morris to a broken arm and last night it was Easton Wood to a bad hamstring injury. That is a major hole in their defence.

4. Jacob Allison is the latest teenager to make an immediate mark on the Lions. He has gathered over 20 possessions in his first two games, rivalling the start made by Alex Witherden.

5. Lewis Taylor could lay a claim to being the most improved player under Chris Fagan. Although he was the Rising Star winner in 2014, his last two years have been underwhelming. This year he has taken his game to a new level.

The Taylor comment is interesting. A couple of months ago you would have thought NRobbo was the most improved but his last month or so has been pretty average while Squizzys given us a lot of spark.

I think Taylor's only really poor season was last year. In 2015 Taylor had a few 30 possession 3 goal games he has been really good this year though

Past years he had been a poor decision maker and did no damage. This year, he's a damaging midfielder who takes the game on and hits the scoreboard. Looking forward to the continued improvement.

Point 2 is by far the most interesting if true, look out Jack Frost(OOC 2019), Tom Bell(2018), Rohan Bewick(2018).

I don't know how it works, anyone? If we were to pay out Jack Frost as an example, say he's on $400,000 a year for 2018 and 2019 does all that money go onto this years cap or is it still included or part of it in the 2018 and 2019 cap spend?

Would have to come out of this year's I believe. Otherwise they have to stay on the list next year like we did with Voss, and what GWS are doing with Patfull this year.

Not certain how Items 1 and 3 relate to the Lions

If Kelly goes to the Roos it would be for their first. I wonder if the Giants would be willing to do another trade similar to last year? I don't really know what their list needs are but I suspect someone like Rayner would be a very good fit, especially if Hopper and the other rumoured players leave.

Pick 1 for Pick 3 + 23?

I'm pretty confident we will end up with pick 3 or pick 2 at the worst.

It's probably time we did tank Lions are building nicely but Rayner looks like a jet and we need forwards

We need mids and we're not pathetic. Sorry to disappoint....
