Dodongo thinks we should chase Breust. Breust would be tempted to move to play with Barrett. They are very close. Fagan's connection also could get something done. Dodongo isn't sure if Breust is out of contract at the end of the year, but he is someone that might be willing to move North considering a few Hawks refused to move last year.
Signed a four year contract earlier this year.

Dodongo dislikes this.
I thought Dodongo might.

I actually think that the way Barrett has gone recently (and, if we dare to hope, perhaps Harwood too?) shows that small forward is a role that you can manufacture a solution for if need be. While a gun goal kicking small forward is a real asset, the fact is that a lot of teams get by with blokes who simply chase hard, tackle and get to the right spots often enough. It isn't an absolute necessity to have a gun small forward.

While this is not a comparison of skill, does anyone else think Barrett moves like Stevie J but with a bit (lot) more defensive pressure. If he applies himself he really could lock in that forward pocket position ... it was also great to see him in at a few centre bounces. A huge plus if he can give the on-ballers a chop out for a bit, especially a Rockliff or Beams who are dangerous in the forward line.
Given our lack of picks this season (assuming we have to at least match for Ballenden early) we need to fill some of these gaps from within.

Yeah, unless you have Eddie Betts-like freakish ability around goals, a good defensive player is just about as good.

We need to stop with this recruiting Hartung stuff. Pick 18 for another C grader? We already have Bell, Bastinac and Walker. No way. While Parish is a potential future A grader I'd prefer we continue on the current path. Go to the draft and get ourselves a potential gun at Pick 1

Your strategy seems to contradict itself. You want to use pick 1 for a quality proven player like Parish yet you'll trade 18 for Hartung? Grabbing the 2 extra future 2nd rounders is only useful if we have some top quality academy kids coming through next season (not sure).

Boys I think you will find fagan and noble will either look to drafting in high quality kids or we trade for the next level up guys that will get us to our next flag like parish , Francis or even a Kelly . Hawks players who have been there and done that won't cut the mustard.

The only rookies I'd promote are Hammelmann (has done his 3 years on the rookie list so it's promote or lose him) and Barrett, who's clearly best 22. McInerney's a bit stiff not to get a promotion but I don't think we can carry 3 rucks on the senior list when we know that both Stef and Archie can ruck solo if either ends up out with a short-term injury/suspension.

I think we need to keep one of Freeman or Close - my choice would be Close, but I don't think it matters too much. Going into 2018 with only Schache, Hipwood, Hammelmann and possibly Ballenden as forwards is just asking for another year of burnout among our young players and a disaster if Hippwood or Schache get injured - especially given that Ballenden will probably need some time in the NEAFL to develop and Hammelmann has only played 2 games as a forward at AFL level. Whoever we don't keep out of Freeman and Close I'd definitely want to try and trade as I think they're both worth something to another club given the lack of established forward options floating around right now.

How do we get Parish?
Send Mathieson and Berry on a weeks break to Victory at the same time as Parish is being managed/rested, and get them to kidnap Parish on a winter fishing trip up to Noosa.

Hypothetically though... what would we have to give up?
With Essendon well known for being very difficult to deal with, they will be after our first.
Pick 1 which would only be entertained if they were to give us theirs in return.
Or we offer Ports pick plus our second pick in return for their second.

you would need to pay something decent to get something decent.

if you think you are getting Parish by trading down the draft a few places you are kidding yourself. It would take pick 1 outright.

He's not coming but remember we don't need to trade. PSD available as he's out of contract

It would not take Pick 1. Pick would be the equivalent of a star player (Kelly). We arent getting him because Essendon wont want anything from us. They would want more than the Port pick but they wont be getting pick 1

How about a pick 1 and something (18? or Port's?) trade with StK to get their 4 and 8 then use one of those for Parish? Still maintain a top 10 and a pick to match a bid on Ballenden plus Parish discounting the possibility of PP aswell. I'd rather go to the draft if it was pick 1 or GTFO.

Put it this way, would you rather pick 1 or Parish? I'd take Parish. Though generally speaking I think that I don't rate picks as much as others do.
Not disagreeing with you, but by trade week, pick one usually has a name. It's not as simple as Parish or pick one. Still a long season to go, but by trade week pick one might have a name and a greater reputation and projected future than Parish.

If there is one player we should set our sights on its May from the GC. I read he's about to sign an extension at the Coast.

Let's make him an offer he can't refuse.

A total meathead but who cares- someone we could build a backline around.

Let's do it. He wouldn't even have to move house.
