We need mids and we're not pathetic. Sorry to disappoint....

This. Plus, at the end of the day, I'm not sure the blatant tanking approach has ever been successful. The media harp on about it a fair bit, but I don't think teams do it. The only two teams to look like they have tanked for the top draft pick in recent years haven't exactly met success yet. In fact, one might get the spoon again this year.

I agree we'll probably win 2 out of last 3 but think Rayner who can midfield is the standout player in this years draft think he'd look great in Lions colors
We need mids, Rayner won't be able to play midfield for long will take a while to be ready. And if his endurance is bad then he will prob just be another 1 way runner we don't need.

Rather a genuine mid & look towards some rookie / trade options for pressure forwards. Then there's always Rankine to strive for next year who wil be ready to play straight away & will be a strong forward line addittion

Tanking creates a losing culture and is not great for team morale. And pick 1 is almost never the best player. We can win games and get the best player with 2 or 3.
:thumbsu:
Nathan Fyfe- pick 20, 2009.
Patrick Dangerfield- pick 10, 2007.
Joel Selwood- pick 7, 2006.
Dustin Martin- pick 3, 2009.
Sam Mitchell- pick 36, 2001.
Marcus Bontempelli- pick 4, 2013.

I think Taylor's only really poor season was last year. In 2015 Taylor had a few 30 possession 3 goal games he has been really good this year though
Taylor had an avg. 20.2 disposals with a DE% 74.7 which was 2.9% better then any other player in our team averaging 20 or possessions during the 2015 season so your right on the money.

He also avg. more marks per game at 4.2
Edit: I should clarify that the marks avg is his best seasonal avg.

Would also like to add that his season this year has been miles better in tackles and goal assists 2.8 tackles a game and 16 GA ( 9 better then the next best so far)

Taylor is far from a player you could judge of the stat sheet. He's never done much damage with it until this year.

I take it ,it brings back great moments and memories of the disco 80's era for you ,partying hard Or quote - "Fitzroy's most significant post-war success was in the early '80s, when the Lions made the finals four times, culminating in a preliminary final appearance in 1986. "

Watching Petracca this season, I wouldn't want a player with a similar body type but worse endurance. Petracca looks flat out ungainly most of the time, and I think it limits him as a player as well.

The one thing i have trouble with is comparisons. Petracca is Petracca . Rayner is Rayner. We seem to forgot Rayner is kid. Will he make it ,will he not? It is up to him and not C Petracca. let this young kid player the way he wants ,in his own right, as C Rayner. He may have strenghts and weaknesses but so has every other player in the league. I personally ( from what i have seen) feel is strengths outweigh his deficiencies. Only time will tell. Every player we draft may or may not make it. The question is , is Rayner worthy of a chance to play at club that has a tremendous history behind it.My answer is an unequivocal YES!!!

Fair enough. I would suggest that his role from year to year may have implications or determine his impact on games, but it would be mere speculation on my behalf. I like his role he plays this year, plays more to his strengths. Game plan may have a lot to do with this too.

I'm gonna stick my hand up and say I'm not sold on Charlie Cameron. I really wouldn't be happy if it cost our third pick in trade for CC.
I wouldn't either, I do remember hearing on one of the forums here awhile back that we might be into Sicily and he us. I would be ok if we were able to move back from our pick 18 to acquire two more second rounders (I had GC in mind at the time) to get both. In saying that though I really do want to be able to draft 3 mid types with our first 3 (and then Ballenden). I would be ok if Rocky left, we got end of rd1 compo and something like above was to happen. Only problem is Cameron is contracted and we do pay slightly overs when trading IMO.

Jokes aside i'd probably take Kelly at pick 2. He's everything you want in a top line mid, very well balanced inside and out, uses it well, runs hard, is damaging with his possessions. Would be a tight call between him and Bont with Merrett just sitting below them.
