Brisbane Lions coach Chris Fagan reveals he would “love to have” Adelaide Crow Charlie Cameron

BRISBANE coach Chris Fagan wants Crows speed machine Charlie Cameron.

And as speculation increases that the 23-year-old midfielder-forward wants out of his contract to be reunited with family in Queensland, the pressure increases on the Adelaide list-management team to decide if it best to deal away Cameron in October when he has greater value in the trade market.

Fagan told Melbourne radio show Sportsday on Tuesday night that he would “love to have” Cameron at Brisbane - and he will leave Lions football chief and former Crows football boss David Noble to work the deal.

“We are certainly interested in getting players to our club who can help us progress up the ladder,” said Fagan at the last-ranked Lions.

“(Cameron’s) age profile and talent is something we are interested in.

“I’ll leave that to David Noble, but if Charlie Cameron is available and interested (in joining Brisbane), I’d love to have him.”

Cameron is contracted to Adelaide for next season. But if he wishes to move for family reasons, Adelaide would hold a stronger hand in October’s trade talks this season.

As an out-of-contract player next year, Cameron could move to the Lions through the draft system with no compensation to the Crows.

Cameron is one of three Crows linked to moves at the end of the season - along with defender Jake Lever and forward Mitch McGovern who are out of contract in October.

Cameron is another success story from Adelaide’s rookie system, rising from the rookie list at the end of the 2014 season when he played seven games.

Originally from the WA football system, Cameron has become a regular of the Crows system, either as an opportunist forward or a gamebreaker with his speed in the midfield.

Crows specialist forward Eddie Betts has revealed there is to be no more locker-room banter to Cameron, Lever and Kelly to press them into staying with Adelaide next season and beyond.

The club may not move Rocky on but may make an offer that will make Rocky want to move on eg. $500,000 per year.

Isn't the negotiated offer around the $600k per year ...and the negotiations are actually over the length of contract??

This is interesting.....Doesn't sound like he's got plans of leaving...

Rockliff's three-year deal expires at the end of this season. Negotiations on 2018 and beyond have been ongoing since May.
"It is still in the pipelines, I haven't really worried about it too much, I'm just happy to be playing good footy," Rockliff said.
"We have super talent," Rockliff said. "Look at Alex Witherden in his second game, he isn't afraid to take the game on and he will continue to get better.
"Eric Hipwood, in his second year, he is doing a big job as a key forward. Rhys Mathieson as a second-year payer as well, Hugh McCluggage and Jarrod Berry playing important roles.
"We have so many young boys coming through and to have an experience like that was quite uplifting."

Just an observation. If a kid plays every game possible, with no finals footy, he won't reach 100 games until early in to his 5th season

I'm going to feel sorry for Rocky if he stays to an extent. Will probably be a Richard Champion and retire a year before our premierships after going through the tough times.
Isn't Richard Champion doing those travel shows on channel 7? I wouldn't feel too sorry for him, his life is ****ing awesome.

BRISBANE Lions coach Chris Fagan has made a strong pitch to potential recruit Charlie Cameron, saying the club would love to have the Adelaide forward on its 2018 list if he was available.

Cameron has been linked with a move to Brisbane for family reasons, but he is contracted to the Crows for 2018 and regarded as a key cog in Don Pyke's high-scoring forward line.

The Lions are looking to secure young talent and Fagan said the 22-year-old Cameron would be the type of player the rebuilding club would target in this year's NAB AFL Trade Period.

"We're certainly interested in getting players to our club to help us progress up the ladder and his age profile and talent would certainly be something we'd be interested in," Fagan said on Sportsday radio on Tuesday night.

"I'll leave all that stuff to (football manager) David Noble and (list manager) Dom Ambrogio.

"But from a coaching perspective, if Charlie Cameron were to be available and interested in coming to Brisbane we'd love to have him as part of our team."

If we end up with pick 18, i would happily trade that for Charlie Cameron, you put Cameron, Christensen and Robinson into the current side and we have a very quick and powerful team.

Not sure we will see the best of Christensen........his body is letting him down time n time again

Collarbone was a freak incident. Wouldn't be too concerned about it going forward.

Not such a big fan of Cameron. Sure he has explosive pace but most times he needs to be given the ball in space to be useful. Providing we can educate him to be more than a 1 dimensional player, I think he would be good otherwise think there are better players to fit in our best 22.

Thats what we thought 18months ago when he first did it. He'll be back soon, won't keep him out for too long.

He has a good long penetrating kick, has speed in bucket loads, tackles and kicks goals. I think we'll take him if he is available.

It is not the same injury. The actual steel plate failed, it's extremely rare and has nothing to do with Allen at all.

There's an inherent risk with any broken bone that's still there post injury, but I really don't think it's of that much concern.

I know, i just hope we can consistently get him back on the pitch.
Even the great Dayne Beams has shown this year that it is hard coming back from long term injury. He was ok at the start of the year without being great, getting his hands on the ball but knowhere near the impact the we know he can. And it is only just the last few games that we are starting to see the beams of old.
Even if Bundy gets on the park next year, it is going to take some time for him to be playing his best footy. Hopefully he has a big injury free pre-season.

Agree with that. Will need a while to get into it.

Cameron's run and pressure would be great to have. 7th in the league for tackles inside 50 and 5th in the league for bounces. Our highest ranked player in both of those stats is Zorko. He's bounced the ball 30 times more than Zorko has this year.

His kicking and finishing off needs some immediate attention.

Our development team has done wonders for the skills of our players. At the moment I think Brisbane is the number 1 club for development. Just look how well nick Robertson has been using the ball this year.

I said in a previous thread but I reckon our coaching team could turn James Aish into a player.

Any player with some elite attributes I think will flourish here. Charlie Cameron being one of them

At 23 is it realistic to expect his kicking and finishing off to improve?

Saints fans reporting we are into Jack Lonie.

I think he's a midfielder getting forced to play as a more permanent small forward type in the seniors. Only short but quick, good in the contest and brings pressure. VFL form been very good of late. Would come very cheap.

I can't think of a worse stat to hype a player up with, I guess Zorko would be the Brownlow favourite if he bounced the ball a few more times.
