Preuss would be a great pick up.
Absolutely Preuss would be a great pick up. Seen a few of his games this year and could potentially be one of the best ruckman in league. Have a feeling north will trade Goldstein and keep Preuss. Don't think North will keep the both of them though.Keep enquiring Lions.

I am keen on Charlie Cameron although watching him play the last month or so there is no way I would be giving up either of our current picks 14 or 18 for him, we need to manufacture a pick in the mid to late 20s for him during trade week.
Absolutely. Not work 14 or 18.

Unfortunately that is all I can go by, up until the rumors circulated re Charlie wanting to come to us I never paid much attention to him.
On current form, he's not worth a huge amount. But he's better than that.

And that is the crux for me.

He's a valued player to Port within their system and their fans respect what he does and rate hum, but if a player isn't noticed so much by opposition fans for the right reasons, that speaks volumes.

Every club and their fans usually rate their players higher than opposition fans rate other clubs players. Unless they are a gun player, in which case opposition fans ant to try and get the player on the cheap.

Personally I would want to keep pick 18/19 and take it to the draft. If it looks a certainty that it will likely need to be used to match a bid on Ballenden, try and trade it for two second round picks in the 20's, even if means including our third round pick (which is tied to Collingwood's ladder position).

Well, for a start, he plays for Adelaide not Port.

Also, that's a strange line of reasoning - that somehow the views of opposition supporters are all that relevant to a player's worth. I'd rather judge based on my own views than rely on a collective wisdom of people who aren't all that informed in the first place.

I mean, there are quite a number of opposition supporters who haven't caught up with Lewy Taylor's form turnaround. Does that make Taylor less valuable?

Yeah, my bad saying Port.

I'm actually saying the value probably lies some where in the middle.

I was actually thinking of using a player such as NRobbo to compare and contrast with. A player that many Lions fans rate, but opposition fans do not.

What was CC's form like last year?

I genuinely question if CC will be a best 22 player next year or in the future. Is it worth paying a premium for a border line best 22 player which pick 18/19 will be. Especially for a position where it seems you can find players later in most drafts and bring them through.

In a team that made it through to the second week of the finals he came 9th in the best and fairest despite missing 4 games.

Unless his form regresses in a Tom Bell kind of way, he's a walk up start in our best 22 next year. His form across this season hasn't been deplorable albeit that the last few weeks have been below par. If nothing else, he'd be the best defensive forward on the list. And he has proven in the past that he's capable of decent attacking footy too.

The whole "is he worth pick 14, 19, 30 etc" is a discussion worth having but only if there's enough knowledge of the player to inform the conversation. If you are looking to triangulate on his worth based on other people's opinions, I think you'll struggle.

I hope he is not playing so poorlydue to some sort of individual tanking. That would be a big concern.Just dont see him as a beneficiary of our first 3 picks at least. We need two fair dinkum mids, and Ballenden for starters.

The club may not value pick 18(or what we could get with it)as much as we do.

If a bid hasn't come for Connor Ballenden by pick 18, there will be some talented players available that would fit our list needs, that I would certainly prefer.

James Worpel, Lachlan Fogarty, Charlie Spargo, Matthew Ling should all be there or there a bouts, and it's even possible Lochie O'Brien, Joel Garner, Jack Higgins, Hunter Clark or Andrew Brayshaw could push out that far. There's really not that much separating the kids available from pick 5 to pick 25. And the top 4 really aren't that much ahead of them.

What benefit would he get from intentionally playing poorly? Wouldn't it lower his value when he's potentially going to be on a new contract?
Not to mention he's in with a decent chance to win a premiership really soon.

Agree with this, I'm all in for going to the draft and will back in our recruitment team to identify the best fit/s for our team and also with the added focus of our development team to help bring out the best in these players. The club have stated 3 consecutive drafts being the focus and hope that they maintain this. It's been noted that after the top five or so that it is quite even out to picks in the 30's. I was excited earlier in the year to hear that CC wanted to come North but after watching our current crop of youngsters make an impact and be important members of the top 22 that I personally am hesitant to trade in others, yet. Don't get me wrong, he would add to our team but I would be ok if Crows dig their heals in. We trade him in next year using a 2019 second round pick.

Jackson Trengove looks to have an uncertain future at Port, I think he'd be well worth a look as our 2nd tall defender. Only turns 27 this year and would enable McStay to play as a 3rd tall where I think he's probably more suited.

I see McStay as better suited as a 3rd tall as well. He got lost on Hogan and Pederson a lot on the weekend, zoning way too far off. He took a hanger and did some other nice things and laid some nice spoils but if you were there watching it was head scratching at times with his positioning defending Hogan for example when Andrews rested or had switched. When he is the 3rd tall def, he has a height advantage can use his offensive rebound more aggressively and has the speed to go with pretty much any 3rd tall.

Trengove would be a good option, it's clear we are lacking senior experience in the back 6 and it's hurting us in tight contests. I hope do sign an experienced defender and an experienced mid in free agency. Trengove and Zaharakis would be ideal.

The player I'd be trading for who is totally underrated by his own club is Lucas Webb. I've watched him develop at VFL level and watched him came in and play two solid games for the dogs and the get dumped again to the twos. It's baffling really!! He's 22 played bout 30 games would be ready made to play wing half back or half forward next year, is a better player than Barrett, Bewick, Keayes (atm, still upside tho) and given a proper opportunity will become a very good afl player. He'd be attainable for a puck in the mid 30's or beyond.

The flip side of taking pick 18 to the draft, is theres a decent chance that Ballenden will be bid on prior to that pick (especially if it's as even as you've stated, and with Richmond holding those two late first rounders too) This means essentially we lose that pick for matching anyways.

If the gamble does pays off and Ballenden slips past that pick, we will be taking a decent deficit off next years second rounder, something that we were mindful of last year and maybe again this year.

I put a trade suggestion forward on the CC thread of pick 18 for Charlie and the crows second round pick (~35)

Which means if Ballenden is bid prior to pick 18, Cameron has basically cost us the talent that would have been available at the Collingwood 3rd rounder, which I think is pretty decent value. If the bid comes later, we've ptoected ourselves from any potential deficits with the crows second and Collingwood third rounder tally ~900 points.

We've been smart and used the mechanic of the Academy process to our advantage before, every chance we can again.

David Zaharakis' manager Scott Lucas was asked on SEN tonight about contract talks and if Essendon fans should be confident he will stay. His answer was basically they are progressing, not a huge gap at the moment, and Essendon fans should be confident he will resign.
The one I'm more interested in is Menzel from Geelong, out of contract, hasn't yet been offered a contract but averaging around 2 goals per game over the last 2 seasons. Would certainly add a different dimension to our forward line.

I notice the talk about Roberton from saints has dried up?

Menzel is great is a good side but I tend to think he's an icing on the cake type player. He's not known for his defensive work which is what we really need up forward, particularly if we continue with a 3 tall structure.

Love watching Menzel play knowing all he has been through....but I feel he is too risky body wise, to take a chance.
Apparently no good at defensive stuff maybe coz his knees that's y Geelong have only offered him a 1yr contact far below his expectations

Menzel talk has him either staying or back to Adelaide - likely Port

Very much doubt he goes anywhere else let alone to us
