Think there more pressing needs, if we get Ballenden and Cox that would be 5 ruckmen on the list.
The thing is Smith, Big O and Ballenden (if we get him and not sure he will be a ruckman anyways) are all very raw and young that have not shown anything that suggests they'll be prime rucks at AFL level yet. We have nobody in the 24-28 years age group and Martin is on the down so we really need to bring in a 'known' quantity (Admittedly Cox has been so-so but finished the season strongly). We probably have the worst 2nd string rucks in the comp at the moment. If we grab Cox it will allow Smith and the big O to fight it out for the 3rd (developmental) ruck role next season. Martin won't last forever unfortunately and it seems the rumours have a bit of smoke.

That's the man, just curious ,David Noble might have a few stacked away,do you rate him ?
Has some tools at his disposal. Big bodied and athletic but can't stay on the field for any length of time. Poor bastard is out every second month with some form of injury. IMO would be an upgrade on Jansen but not much more than AFL depth. Will be 25 next season as well.

I think this is fair comment......the Scache factor may also be playing into this .

Names such as Hipwood and Witherden mentioned in the same sentence as Cox? Seriously, Mason Cox??

What's worse is the usual suspects being offered with him in a giant crud package of garbage (J. Smith, Oxley, Thomas etc). Looks like the Gavin Urquart Theory that the Lions must be interested in any bog ordinary Queenslander still exists.

It's no surprise Cox would look for a way out if he doesn't rate Buckley. A lot of talk from mates of mine who stay in touch with two very naughty current (Qld) Collingwood players that Bucks is called Mini Bus amongst a significant group of Pies players at the Holden Centre (I'll let you work out why).

Liam Dawson was a mad Collingwood supporter. They can try and chase him.

Hopefully we trade out:
Bewick > West Coast
Martin > Bulldogs
Paparone > Fremantle
Dawson & Close > Collingwood
Bell retires

Anyone heard anything about Stef wanting to leave for Vic? Waldron thinks it’s family reasons.
This comes up every year. Just through mutual friends, i chat to Stefs mates in Melbourne (I won't name names as I don't want to ruin the info I get).
Stef absolutely loves the club. As people have mentioned, his partner would be one of the main reasons for the move. By the sounds of things he will be playing for Brisbane next year but may look to move or even potentially retire at the end of the year. He has a lot of things going on outside of footy. He is a very intelligent and switched on fella.
If a move was to happen this year it would be because the club feel they can get something for him this year before he makes the move at the end of next year.

I see what you saying but I want to get better next year. I definitely do not want to be heading into battle with Cox as first ruck, not a good start.

It still exists as we took Tom Bell who is dead ordinary.

I remember reading an article last year that stated he 'starring' for the Lions and his ability to hit the scoreboard was 'vital'. :D

What's so bad about him? Better tap ruckman than Stef and can go forward and kick goals. Doesn't have the same impact around the ground as Stef but think he's a better option than playing Smith or OMac.

We would not play him and Stefan in the same side and Stefan is a better player so are we recruiting him for back up?

I agree, I've said all along he would be a great addition if Martin was to leave. If he doesn't we wouldn't be looking at Cox considering he wants to go to a club where he is the number 1 ruck.

Sounds like Martin will only be around for a year, two at the outside. I don't think we can assume Oscar or Archie is necessarily the answer. Ballenden will be a relief ruck at best. If Cox weren't to cost too much, seems a sensible move to shore up our ruck stocks. Most teams want at least three genuine ruck options, usually more.

Tom Bell and Allen Christiensen were at the local footy club the other night talking to the young boys.
There has been a few rumours going around about Bundy not being happy. But from what he said the other night, he aint going no where. Loves the club, took some time to get over his latest setback but in it for the long haul. He needed to get out of Geelong but didnt elaborate, something wasn't right at the time. But is a Geelong boy at heart. Grew up there. Nothing we havent heard but re-affirmed his commitment.
Bell up and running ready for pre-season.

I'm not overly fussed about the idea of getting Cox to the club, but in fairness to him he's no mug and has the ability to sit in the forward line and clunk marks. Has kicked a few small bags too. Again, probably not a necessity with the likely inclusion of Ballenden next year.
Ballendon will be an 18 year old rookie. Bigs who play key forward and ruck take time so we need to brace ourselves for the likelihood he will play a lot of twos footy next year. If Martin was to go, we'll need two new rucks along with big O and possibly even another ruck prospect on the rookie list. I'm not opposed to moving Martin on if there's an opportunity for him in Victoria, it's an area I still think we need to upgrade anyway. Cox Preuss Nichols Pittonet, there's some options there.

According to Sam McLure on SEN this morning the Bulldogs are chasing Stef Martin again and Bob Murphy thinks it would a fantastic pick up for Dogs
I welcome this pursuit but why would the Dogs chase Stef when they could get Goldstein OR Preuss?
