Strength of character will become our number 1 asset ahead of football ability. Yeah fair to say that might narrow the field a bit ha.

Early in the piece I joked we should have Browny on the selection panel.....not so sure I'm joking any more.

He could just sit there, observe and listen......then give his opinion after the interview

What about Dow? What chances there?.....in light of our boys Berry and McCluggage saying they wanted him up there too.

You know, I honestly don’t give a shit anymore. Just not going to get invested again. Sure I’ll have a passing interest in what happens at the club but this trade period is just too much. We have waited so long. We supposedly have the best off field team going around and we got bent over. We turned Rockliff Schache and pick 12 into pick 15 and Cameron. If we accept for a second Rockliff was a straight swap for Cameron we actually downgraded pick 12 three spots so that the Dogs would take Schache off our hands. An unmitigated disaster.

Seems to be a few "experts" grading our trade period as at least a pass mark. I find that interesting given most Lions supporters think it ranges from a slight fail to an absolute disaster.

In hindsight, it seems we (on this forum anyways) may have pitched our expectations a lttle high.

Wallace on his shit "footy golf" segment gave us an eagle (2 under par - which is good). This is very likely linked to him not rating Schache I guess.

I say we did well, but I also think GC trading pick 2 for Weller was a good move. Specifically for the Weller trade - I'd take a proven player who's going to give them 10 years and wants to come for pick-2, over a draft selection... who's just as likely to go home in 2 years (speaking from very recent experience!). Sure it's probably overs, but contract player = sellers market, and they have a player that's going to give them immediate return.

For Brisbane, in the end we got in Hodge and Cameron, while losing Schache and Rocky. Not a bad turnaround - Rocky is a loss of a quality player, Schache is a loss of potential, but we bring. In terms of trade points as compared to status at 9am this morning we traded out 409 points. Hodge effectively cost us the equivalent of 16 points. That's means we essentially exchanged Schache and pick 42 for Cameron. I'd say that's an okay return... a player out who doesn't want to be here, for a player in who does. At the moment we need a player of Cameron's attributes more than we do Schache, and if Ballendon turns out to be any kind of success, then we'll all be happy.

I have had a cup of tea and a good long think about it and I believe that Noble and Fagan have completely outfoxed the Western Bulldogs. We have collected Picks 25 and 40, while the Western Bulldogs get one of our Reserves players. Genius! I cant wait to see who we turn selections 25 and 40 into during the draft. There is no way know a Ressies player like Schache is worth two players.

Well done Noble and Fagan.
Taxi!

An eagle is two under par not over, that’s double bogey.

Well done Noble and Fagan.

Pretty much traded Schache for Ballenden in terms of the picks. Be interesting to see how both their careers unfold.

Perhaps those that know more info about Schache think we did well with the circumstances whereas the rest of us look at it closer to pick 2 is worth significantly less 2 years later.
Draft picks always depreciate in value in the corresponding years. Main reason being when you are drafted you are only judged against players of your same age.

Once you are in the system you are then judged against all players in the AFL. For example, if Dustin Martin was to be traded he'd be hypothetically worth a top 3 pick and way more than McCluggage who was last year's pick 3.

A bit like how a brand new car depreciates as soon as you drive it.

**** it **** it **** it.

Terrible, terrible trade period.

Over paying for CC and losing Schache for peanuts really hurts any positives that came out of the last 2 weeks.

Lucky we've got you to draft our future guns, right?

We need to try something we can't continue to pick these kids who are scared of the dark types. Aish, Schache, etc. We almost need to take the lads with maybe a bit or a rough edge and some attitude(matho, Mitch Robbo) they seem to have some resilience. Reckon Browny could suss that out pretty quick. Funnily enough I think Rayner could be in the lad category.

Draft picks don't always depreciate, they also appreciate... Dusty is worth way more than pick-3.
While we paid slightly overs for Cameron, he was draft as a rookie. He's certainly worth more than a rookie selection now.

Browny was a pretty loose unit during his playing days and had more than his fair share of issues over the years.

I think we also have to get past this notion that we somehow"traded" Rockliff for Pick 18.

FA compensation is only ever partial, unless of course you are luicky enough for the AFL's "formula" to land you in "Band" 1
...or if the AFL "formula" nets you pick 19 for Motlop because you don't have the trade currency to get Ablett home.

Thank goodness he didn't miss Koroit!
