That was only because we used our first on redden !
sinkers for Jetta was a nil all draw in regards to a winner of that trade .
It goes to show that we are prepared to trade players against their will - sinkers was initially against going before stinkney waved some coin at him.

We shopped sinkers off to sydney so we do have some form here
Club rated and still rate lycett higher and also sinkers best is no where near jacks or Gaffs.

Gaffs had an indifferent year (possibly carrying something as well) but he isn't the only player to do so. The fact that we don't actually have decent wingers probably meant that Gaff has been forced to play when he should have been rested.
Darling will get 40 goals and as a 2nd tall thats decent and TBH if he was getting better service he would be a 50 goal forward.

Those two are least of my worries, both are relatively young and can recapture their best form.

As much as we need inside grunt, we need to address our outside run or otherwise we will have a reliance on Gaff like we have had on Priddis. Tim Kelly has to be high on our agenda this year.

so needs wise we need an inside mid (hunter clarke?), Outside mid (tim kelly), KPF (hopefullly we can snap another second rounder) and maybe a young ruckmen.

I'd also convince Lamb to stay and turn him into a KPD and use him as depth as we will probably lose one if not both of emac and schoey.

If they really want to be ballsy and try and land a big fish in the midfield, they could trade Barrass. I know he's a huge player, but we could cover the key backs with McGovern, EMac and Schofield for another couple of years, and get a few other young recruits or guys from the WAFL/VFL/etc to fill in the 2nd, 3rd tall positions for list depth/development. It would be quality for quality, and Barrass is the sort of player teams would look at and say we can build a backline around this guy. Could be a net gain for the right player

Yeah Nah I see where your going but one thing we can do is pick and develop key position player's.......No doubt we would trade him for a midfielder who would come over and go backwards......

We need to back the kids in we have and go to the draft top up player's just don't seem to work unfortunately...

I'm for trading Gaff we have got the best out of him and if he was thinking about heading home like some people suggested now is the best time for both parties...... A trade to St kilda involving Acres would be the go.....

We should be aiming higher than acres if we trade gaff out.acres would be more on par with someone like nelson or duggan

I'll be happy to trade Gaff and darling. Gaff doesn't break the lines or even break a tackle. Darling should be doing more with the attention JK gets.
Get Mitch McGovern and draft mids and quick forwards.

Would be happy with a draft pick and Acres as steak knives so to speak.

Players I think no longer should be on our list.
Ones we know won't be - Mitchell, Priddis, Butler.

Trade or delist - Hill, Cripps, Jetta, Petrie, Giles, McCinnes, Schofield, Masten,

Unknowns- Lecras and Wellingham as in a good side they still have something to offer. But with similar list then their time has come as well.

I feel your pain brother!

All of your 'moves' are feasible and probably should be carried out. The only concern I have is it leaves us very skinny. I would also be looking at some of the guys running around for East Perth (Allen, Gorter, Snadden et al) who, from all accounts, are not developing as well as I would like.

Now I know we probably cannot afford to cut to deep in a single season but geez - we seem to be carrying a lot of dead wood.

Gaff is only 25, just entering the typical peak time of an AFL career. If he left now, another club will get the best of him, not us.

No credible source has said he wants to leave, people are just frustrated so put his name in this thread.

He won't be going anywhere, the only way we lose Gaff is in some type of trade packaged up with something else to get an A grade mid the likes of Kelly or Shiel. Not going to happen, Gaff will be a better player in a good side. We just need to become that better side and the only way to do that is clean out the dead wood.

We've got a chance to be very bold and hit the draft hard.

Darling is expendable and Waterman could come in next year in his role.

Gaff also holds some currency and could upgrade our first or get us a second first rounder.

Do we have the guts?
I have held off on these two but i have come to the point where i think its in our best interests to trade them. They are good players but you just can't rely on them and you just know they are going to let you down in big moments. They have currency and could really help us hit the trade period hard. Maybe the Gaff rumors are true as it looks like he has already checked out.

I know its very unlikely to happen but I would like th eagles to draft Matt Hanson from Werribee. He is a 22 year old midfielder that has won 2 club b&fs in his first 2 seasons at Werribee and it looks like he'll win his 3rd in a row this season as well. He has been dominating the VFL lately being named best on ground 3 of the last 4 weeks for the club.

AFL clubs prefer to go with hope options on an 18 year old kid for some reason, recruiting seasoned men footballers is against AFL policy it seems.

Does anyone really think if LeCras is signed up for another year he is going to be 'depth'. He's never even played a game at EP before. Lock in 15 games for Lecca right now if we sign him up as 'depth'
Lecca is a huge upgrade of Hill, Cripps, Wellingham, Jetta in the fwd line.

Well by your logic, we could pick and develop another one... ;)

Without going down that path though, Barrass would be worth way more currency than Gaff. Gaff, 150 games, Barrass, 25 and already a near-on A-grader at 21 years of age. I wouldn't be too defeatist about recruiting a midfielder who's going to go backwards, btw. After all, we're not a bunch of life-hating nihilists like our neighbours south of the river. Keep it in perspective mate.

Like I said though, trading Barrass would only be to get a Josh Kelly-level trade. I don't know about you, but I would take one of those star mids from the Giants we saw running around yesterday in our team in a second. And the draft is always a good idea, but like the point was made earlier in the thread, if we're serious about challenging for a flag, doing it while we have JK at full forward is a better bet than going for the 4-5 year rebuild.

I'm not against trading Gaff btw, but off the back of his form this season, we possibly wouldn't get as much for him as the value we'll get from him over the next 4-5 seasons, not to mention the midfield leadership, which we do still need.

He sounds like a Priddis type...Is that a fair assessment?
