That he would want to go just says to me we have some real problems in our club, why would Mitch not want to come to us where his brother plays? Has to be much more to it than the so called a Priddis treatment. Why do players not want to play for us?
Must be the administration? I dunno man, it sucks for lack of a better word. Plain sucks

Has the club come out and confirmed this?, or is this all based on the clown article from Adelaide.

I think gov will sign on with us with the club giving him a huge pay increase.

We have to get one of these midfield guns.
Dusty or Kelly plus Gov jnr.

No more guys in their late 20s with questionable disposal, injuries or pea hearts.
So no Rocky, Menzel, CEY, Motlop (lol) types.

Great, thats clear then.

But pretty bloody unrealistic.

Sure we might land Mitch but stop kidding yourself that Dusty or Kelly are more than a 1000 to -1 chance of landing here.

So then what? We give up.

We can reconstruct existing contracts to front load them if we need to (quite often done and is advantageous to the player as it gives them their money earlier), but it would be a shame to waste the opportunity to spend the money on new players. Not sold on Rockliff & Zaharakis but I don't really see any other options unless we're willing to trade away picks which I don't think we should unless it is for someone like Kelly. I just hope we don't do something stupid like load up on guys like Andrew Swallow.

Well your right here and thats the point.

We need to wisely invest our excess salary cap to improve the team. To improve we need to bring in tallent either by trade or as a FA.

FA available that fit our needs are limited. Dusty, Zaharakis and Rockliff, to a much lessor extent Motlop. The quality after that is minimal.

He's a restricted FA so if Essendon don't want to match we can get him for free. You're right though, he should have left 2 years ago and I think he would have been allowed to get out of his contract as well.

I would bet my left testicle that if any Essendon FA affected by the drug era wanted out Essendon would not stop them.

My mail has it that Mitch and Jezza were never really that close as brothers and don't care if they end up at the same team.
Contradicts what Jezza has said about wanting to play with him.

Mitch McGovern is overrated, reportedly expensive and doesn't feel our strongest needs. I am glad that we are apparently out of the race.

Winning a flag while JK, Nic, Hurn, Lecras, EMac etc yep we give up.
We trade, go to the draft and rebuild.
If you can't bring in ready made talent then you have to bring it in through the draft and develop the **** out of it.

Problem is our recruitment and development is shit, especially midfielders.

When a team chooses this path they normally cull the footy department hard, coaches included.
No BS ohh but he was a good bloke at North BS. Simmo do you have the people for the job because it's your arse if it goes south?
Then you go spend up big and draft and develop. Freo style

Lecras cooked. NicNat wont be back to his best until 2019, 18 months away. Priddis gone. Hurn not captain material. Hill and EMac depth at best. Best 22 players are Redden, Jetta, Cripps FFS. All has beens from clubs happy to see the back of them. (except maybe Redden) It's pretty ****in dire.

If we can't land something better than two 33 years olds this off season then yes, we're ****ed.

Provided we can hold onto Jeremy, i'm not really fussed if we do or don't get Mitch. Rumoured to want 600-700k per season. For Adelaide's 5th best forward and someone averaging 1.6 goals per game in one of the highest scoring teams in the league, that seems a little steep.

Rockliff on similar coin is a much, much better option. Fills a need in the midfield and get's our campaigner quota up.

Spend big also means coughing up quality players and picks, which is counter productive.

So how do we do it?
Darling and Gaff trade. Neither can brake a tackle from a 5 year old and neither are suited to todas game.
One dimensional players will be the death of any club.

Cripps on notice. Lecras retired. Redden played on ball only, in Priddis role and told if he corrals once we trade him back to Brisbane. Jetta delist ASAP. Retain Petrie.

Go to the draft and trade for Kelly or Dusty. If we are too behind the 8 ball with those two then we haven't done our due diligence and were ****ed. Rockliff and CEY are injury prone and worth peanuts,

More interested in a charlie cameron type than a has been. Look at Caleb Daniel for example...

Would be horrified if we chased McGovern, we needs Mids!!!!!
Hopefully our 1st 2 draft picks are mids.
Really hope Masten gets the flick, would love to trade him to Freo.

Forget about Le cras in any discussions, he is in the same group as Priddis and Mitchell.

But to say that we give up on a flag whilst Kennedy and Naitanui as still on the list is dead set defeatist crazy talk.

Stop putting your strategy around Kelly or Dusty, there are 17 clubs chasing those players and we would need to "sell the farm" to land one of them.

This season we got zero games out of the 2017 draftees due to injury. We need to draft carefully this year and target stronger, bigger mids like SPP who can make a contribution straight away. So in 2018 we have Venebles, Rioli, say Bradshaw or Hunter Clark, a couple of mature agers like Kelly from WA and a Ryan tupe. Added to those we have Naitanui and Lycett hopefully getting a decent run with injury PLUS the likes of Barrass, Partington, Cole, Mutimer, Waterman, Watson, Nelson and Rotham improving.

Thats 15 players we should expect to contribute more next year than 2017.

The likes of Masten and Wellingham can bugger off and enjoy there instagram lifestyles.

Bringing in one trade or FA is another legitimate way of improving in 2018 and 19 before Kennedy is done.

Talking full rebuild with a new coach is rubbish.

The only things stopping us from getting McGovern Jnr would be the money.

Definitely not worth $700k+ a season.

Use the money on a gun mid instead.

BOND 007 Is Angus Brayshaw still on our radar? Are there any other young gun mids we're throwing coin at?

Think your pretty bang on here mate, backing our 2017 draftees and bringing in a few kids + ready made wafl players is the way too go!

Also getting rockliff is not a bad idea!
We could use a bit of midfield experience after shuey and redden we don't have a lot of players to do the grunt work

Fair call, clearly he's not at Gaff levels of Seagull.

But i'd still argue he cares very little about winning an actual game of football. Whether he's skillful enough to create scoring opportunities and just chooses not to, or simply doesn't have enough confidence in taking on the responsibility... he comes across as nothing but an accumulator.

Wouldn't be fussed either way i guess, plus side is that it'd cost nothing other than cash and we'd get 3 reasonable seasons out of him at least.
Rockliff is a great ball winner tackler and is not wasteful with his disposal . He is also good 1 on 1 mark that can play forward .

He is not a danger Martin or Bontempelli in they will win the game for you in a burst of brilliance .

He does his job well and wins the ball but brisbane doesn't have class on the outside and mature talls to capitalize

Mitch McGovern was never the answer. Too similar to Darling. Where are you going to play him? Can't play JK Mitch JD and 2nd Ruck all in the forward line. Just hoping Jezza doesn't leave now. My ideal would be Mitch signs on at Adelaide. The Eagles have something up their sleeve just like when they got Redden. I think it will be Zaka, Acres or Rocky and I'm not against either of them. I believe Matera will be an Eagle too.

Like hearing the coaching committee is getting a shake up too. From rd 1 to now we haven't addressed some areas that we need to like our transition from the back half to the forward half.

1 thing I would say is IF we won those 5 games we went 0-5 that were just 8pts the difference. (GC,Melb,Coll,StK,GWS) let's be honest we should've won all of them if we didn't stop completely. We would be top and Nic Nat would be back.

BOND 007 is very quiet of late. Could be a sign a lot of action is happening behind the scenes.
Groundwork being laid for a big trade perhaps???

Probably more likely that the board has turned to shit recently.

Anyway. Not fussed over Mitch McGovern, especially when Jake Waterman seems a similar type (ala third tall forward) and is showing something at WAFL level despite missing most of the year with injury.
