Gaff for Stratton and Hartung was mentioned a while back.

Could you imagine losing Gaff and a second rounder for those two + Fasolo?

:$

Why are there no rumours about you guys throwing your wallet at Rockliff and telling him to help himself? Perfect for WC I would have thought.

Damien Barrett just said on footy classified that the team mates of gaff believe he could be on the way out to possibly hawthorn or saints....get it done with the saints eagles !!

Guaranteed to be staying then.

I seriously hope it’s not hawthorn.... don’t know why we would want Stratton.... we don’t need defenders and he’s only got a couple years left and hartung is like a poor mans masten

Why not? I thought we were friends after we threw you a pretty juicy bone last last off season!

Might be a 2018 pick involved?

That said, if you can get pick 7/8 for a player who looks like he might leave in 12 months, then I'd be saying 'get stuffed Hawthorn' too.

Don't know how much of a difference it makes, but someone posted on the main board about Gaff buying and moving into a new house here only a couple of months ago

Lobb was at all time value at the end of last year and has not lived up to that IMO. I'm glad we didn't go after him because he would have cost overs.

He was an absolute liability once the ball hit the ground against Richmond and we have too many of those types as it is. Just stood there spectating.
I still think he would be handy in the forward line especially when Kennedy goes,he got the second most contested marks in the comp and is getting better in the ruck.
Obviously he wouldn't be the priority over coniglio but still very handy

Gaff and 13 to StK 7 and 8 seems a good deal to me (if Gaff wants to leave why make him stay). Need to use those picks wisely though

There's no way the Saints will trade both of their picks. I think it'll end up being a straight swap Gaff for pick 8, but I'd still really like Acres back in the deal somehow, particularly if he's thinking of coming home anyway.

Not that I particularly want him but most of our big moves seem to come out of nowhere because we manage to keep things quiet, every chance we have made enquiries.

My only thoughts are that if gaff is indeed leaving it is because he has signalled his intentions a year early and is looking after west coast (getting us more than FA compo). If this is the case then I don't think we will have to worry about the hawks screwing us over. We should be dealing with the saints and hopefully getting a first rounder plus steak knives. I'd say pick 8 and a player as they don't have a second rounder. Perhaps gaff and 13 for 7 and 8?

Also my reading on the GC is that they will be losing some of their highest paid players (ones not willing to take pay cuts even though performance doesn't warrant high pay) and turning to the draft. In the short term they will be requiring solid loyal footballers to help improve their culture. I honestly believe some of our fringe players will be perfect fits for them. They will also have of pile of second rounders and so they might not value third rounders as highly as us. Currently they have 2,19,22,24,33,37 and with players leaving there is only so many picks they can/will want to use. I wouldn't be against trading on pick 13 for a number of second rounders
Gaff and 13 for 7 and 8 puts gaff at a value of between pick 4 and 5

If gaff for #8 works out, I would definitely be looking at trading pick 13 to gcs for say pick 24+33

Is a straight swap gaff for saints #8 fair?
Thoughts guys ?

I'd rather keep 13,2 early picks is what we need

West Coast seem relevant again in the trade period which is exciting. Summary from Footy Classified tonight:

1) Gaff possibly going home to Vic
2) Saints unlikely to keep both picks 7 & 8 and move one to secure a player such as Gaff
3) Jesse Hogan still considered getable by both WA clubs

Gaff and our first to Melbourne for Hogan & their 3rd.

It is, so what we'll probably do is trade pick 13 for David Swallow or something, maybe chuck in Masten and get a late 2nd rounder back.
I'm not sure I understand why we can't use both picks? I'm guessing you're thinking we are in the window and need a top up of experience .if that is the case I dont mind swallow, haven't seen much of him since he's returned from.years of being injured but he may be OK.
I'd rather get 2 of the best mids available in the draft with the picks we have and bring in rockliff and Tim Kelly later in the draft, that way we've got some elite young talent,an experienced campaigner and kelky

No I was agreeing with you, just can't see Vozzo and O'Brien doing the same and this seemed like a plausible trade they'd do considering our past midfield trades

TBH I'd much rather keep Gaff and go to the draft! Take out Gaff and we literally have no effective and consistent wingmen left! We need an A grade Dustin Martin, Dangerfield/Petracca (potential) type to fix our midfield and unless trading out Gaff gives us a high chance of that he's much more valuable to us. Pick 8 is far more likely to net you a Sheppard, Rohan, Sheed, Millera type as opposed to a petracca, Fyfe or Bont so I'd rather stick with Gaff

Perhaps gaff and 13 for 7 and 8?
Can’t see Sts parting with both those picks

It’d be 8 and some steak knives, no matter how hard St fans argue he wouldn’t be worth that.

Interesting times ahead

Yeah fair enough, didn't look at his stats but just didn't seem that damaging whenever I saw GWS play this year.

Having someone who can play ruck and forward well is pretty valuable so I wouldn't be against trading for him, just only for the right price.

Not necessarily, Fyfe was taken with pick 20, Sloane with pick 44, Danger with pick 10, JPK with pick 40 and then traded for a bunch of late picks. For every top midfielder that was taken with pick 3 there's another one who was taken later in the draft.

Ye we would prob throw another 3rd rounder or something towards them

But that is where is his value is at! He is one of the best Wingmen in the league. Put him in a Geelong or Richmond or Melbourne (teams with powerful inside players) and he will be an absolute star! He misses targets for us because he is being forced into a more inside role with our lack of depth and consistent defensive running because we keep losing clearances. In a team that wins a lot of inside ball they could put him into space and he would be tearing it up

That's true but a lot of posters on this board don't rate the recruiting department.

2008 7. D Rich 8. T. Vickery
2009 7. B. Sheppard 8. John Butcher
2010 7. J. Caddy 8. D. Heppell (Gaff at 4)
2011 7. N. Hayes 8. B. Longer
2012 7. O. Wines 8. S. Mayes
2013 7. J. Aish 8. L. McDonald
2014 7. P. Ahern 8. P. Wright
2015 8. C. Ah Chee (2 academy players at/before 7) 9. S. Weideman
2016 8. G. Logue (1 academy player before 7) 9. W. Brodie

Not many would be worth a straight swap for Gaff I would have thought. Also 28 for Yeo instead of 31 was very unpopular around here, would anyone be in support/acceptance of 8 rather than 7 for Gaff?

I'd prefer to keep Gaff unless its for 7 & Acres minimum, which I don't think StK would do

Unfortunately for our club Simpson is looking after himself and his own interests not the clubs Fasolo interest clearly shows that as does Vozzos statement our 1st pick is on the table

It does not clearly state that at all. Vosso was very respectful and vague. We would be interest in Fasolo if available and our first pick will always be considered for the right trade to improve the list.

No commitment at all really.

Straight swap for Schofield or we will just wait 12 months.
