You'd hope that there are some contracted players on the list earning significantly more in 2018 than in 2019.

That runs counter to a lot of the arguments made previously; in that with Mitchell and Priddis' retirement we now have significantly more salary space available under the cap for 2018. You're right, who knows? Can't have it both ways. My gut feel is we re-sign Wellingham in order for salary floor compliance, and if we don't it is because we're harder up against the cap than most perceive.
What? You think the club would sign a player to meet the floor? Why wouldn't they just pay a player they want around for a few years more this coming year and less the years after i.e. front ending i.e. moving cap space to another year i.e. being smart.

If they sign welllllllllinghammmmmm it will be because they think he has value. Not to meet the floor.

I believe the biggest issue is the attitude of the team. Let's face facts, the last 2 years has seen the premiership being won by the team that showed the greatest desire. Not the most talented team of individuals, the team.

Therefore the biggest benefit for success in 2018 would be to consistently show the desire we witnessed in the last home game against Adelaide. That feels more like the spirit we had in 2015 so we know that Simpson can deliver and the majority of the senior leaders from 2015 are still at the club.

Changes:
Attack - if Rioli and Venables can lift to their potential, add to that JK, Darling, Vardy/Lycett and a fit Cripps, then we are one of the better attacks. Backing in LeCras without form also brings about opposition half backs not being picked up.

Defence - McGovern, Yeo, Barrass/Mackenzie, Sheppard and Hurn are a great start. Simpson must address the "going too tall" and the eMac is not able to play on smalls. If we have one of Nelson, Watson, Cole, Rotham, etc lift and have a breakout year, we have a great defence. Who knows, more than 1 of these lift and Yeo may be able to spend more time as an outside mid. I say outside as persisting with Yeo as an inside mid has not really worked.

Midfield - as many have said, NicNat back fills over many cracks. Gaff is still a great winger when we use his strengths. Shuey has that inside burst that is A grade. We just need Redden to be that first ball get inside bull, Sheed to play the distributor clearance king and some of our other mids (Duggan, Nelson, Partington, Cole, Pick 13, etc) to find another gear and make that step up.

Get these things right, we are top 8, if not top 4.

Have the attitude and inconsistency of 2016 and 2017, we are anywhere from 7 to 15.
Not if you listen to Terry Wallace a he stated West Coast Eagles won't make the
In regards to the trading of Gaff, i can see no other way of greatly improving our draft position short of doing something radical, and that would have to entail something like putting Gov on the trade table, which we should never, ever do.

The only other option would be to roll the dice and perhaps trade with another club our first rounder next year for another first rounder this year (or vice versa if next years draft is indeed meant to be stronger).

I cant see that happening either, our list managment dont strike me as the most proactive bunch.

Thus, i am resigned to praying that our first selection this year is an absolute an utter gun, because if they aint 2018 probably isnt shaping as a premiership year
you do realise that for any players still under contract they have to agree to go - the Club can't put them up for trade unless they agree they either want to return home or want out for whatever reason. Players who want out of other Clubs have not nominated us, with the exception of Ah Chee - not much you can do about that!

It's funny how it doesn't matter which team you support on big footy you having a whipping boy, half your lists are spuds when you lose, your recruiters don't know how to draft and you always seem to get reamed in trades...just looked on the hawks board who think their club is soft. Went to the geelong board and apparently wells recruiting is not up to scratch...

Mate reckons West Coast are all over some 18 year old otherwise unknown playing in the Pilbara league. Apparently they have been secretly flying him up an down for training and blocked him from playing WAFL. Big fast real nasty piece of works with a mullet half way down to his arse.
Has your mate confirmed it's bs yet?

Didn't take us long to launch the Priddis hate onto Mastens pile did it? Maybe someone wants to start a seperate thread so you can waste your time in there jerking each other about it.

Some eagles fans can’t move forward with their support for club until priddis masten nisbett and gepp are gone.

Pretty sure there r separate threads already....

Actually something sound and logical said in trade week.

“I find the clubs who do the best in trade period don’t actually talk about it, they just do it. If something happens then it’s reported but if we are talking a lot then it’s not that helpful to your cause at times."

“I know how the AFL wants this to work. We want to dominate the media, so you’re going to dominate the media via trade week. We have trade radio and trade month and all this sort of stuff.

“The AFL might have other motivation as they want to the biggest and the best and to be honest I think it’s more damaging when it goes for so long and nothing happens that people tune out.”

Neil Blame.

Smh, what was the club thinking when they gave masten a contract until the end of 2019. Such poor list management.

It's the perfect example of the Eagles old boys club in operation. WA kid, related to one of the clubs power brokers who gets retained and paid more than he is worth or what any other club would do.

IMO Masten need to make a big call on his body shape this off season, either get bigger and stronger so you can play more inside and actually lay and stand up in a tackle or go the other way and lose weight/bulk and get your outside running game up 5>10 %. He's stuck in between ATM lost a bit of pace by putting on a bit more bulk but hasn't put on enough bulk to match it with the big boys.

Which power broker is he related to?
