Wellingham and Redden were both first round draft picks. While Petri and Mitchell were good players - WCE were hopeless and have just wasted a year. WCE would likely be in a better position had they not recruited those dinosaurs and just developed the younger players.
Not this year they weren't.

Who would you have taken with the pick we traded for Wellingham out of interest?

Ah Chee is obviously talented, for the life of me I can't figure out why he hasn't gotten a consistent run of games at Port, regardless of perceived depth.

Talent wise, he's worth a 2nd rounder for mine. The kid has skills.
However given he's basically not a required player at Port, the fact they're holding out for a 3rd rounder is laughable.
Take the 4th rounder and let the lad get on with the next phase in his life/career FFS Port.

Be careful when bagging a player that you don't know much about. Years ago we were offered a young josh Kennedy in a 3-way trade for Shaun Burgoyne, I was insulted and irate, Burgoyne is a genuine star, who the f€£k is Kennedy?. Trade was turned down but I sure as hell know who Kennedy is now.
Port aren't the worst club to deal with in trade talks either. Collingwood & crows are a lot worse. But port won't cave in easily either. We have let good players go before for nothing (nick Stevens) on principle, but not to the club of their choice, if their suitors were unwilling to make a reasonable offer.
Ah chee is a good bloke and doesn't want to do the club over, I note he has stated he is willing to go anywhere to continue his afl career, and I note that a lot of players are now urging port to hold onto him and give him more of a run next season.
Eagles can play tough and hope to get him for nothing but Gold Coast and a few other clubs will take a serious look at him first.
Piss off port are right behind essendon as the worse clubs to trade with .
Ebert
Jacobs
newton
Polec
dixon
Ryder
All trades where port were shit campaigners in the last 5-6 years

Yep, we'd be flag favourites if we'd developed budding superstar McInnes for a year instead of playing Petters.

This geeling getting pick 19 stinks and only explanation is they have told Geelong to use it for ablett.

Corrupt afl.
Compensation is general stinks. Especially for restricted free agents. You can keep them by matching or get the benefit of cap space. Giving draft picks is a joke

Isn't compo mainly determined by the contract offered by the new club?

19 seems like fair compo to me anyway.
Wasn't there an article on AFL.priddis a couple hours ago about Motlops 'sliding doors moment'?

Something about how nominating Port has cost Geelong a better compensation pick because if he'd have gone with Adelaide they would have gotten a better pick (pick 19) due to the fact their offer was larger.

Next minute... Geelong get pick 19 as compensation anyway, despite Ports much lower contract.

Which young player did Petrie keep out of the team this year?

cant compare ah chee to Kennedy. Kennedy at the time was a kid at 20, ah chee on the other hand at 24 is not a kid any more and has spend 6 seasons on an AFL list.

yeah nah. He's more like a half back flanker but due to his height he seems to have been played more like a tall but he's built like a giraffe. Those type of kids take time to come on.

Do you think we'd Port him if someone made an offer? Sorry Lamb's a required player, we need a 3rd rounder for him.
Bit different. He's a KPF that's 3 seasons in. It's normal for KPF's to take 3-4 years for things to click - just look at Shooter and JK. If Lamb was 6yrs in, then it would be a different story, but I know Lamb has the talent, my worry is more our development methods/ability.

Grundy was taken with that pick. Not a bad ruck at all.:cool:

Who slipped to that pick because of the number of clubs that didn't want a ruck. With two current AA ruckmen plus a 20-year-old Lycett on the list, we undoubtedly would've also passed on him.

As the non-trade period reaches the half-way point, here is my best guess of our ins and outs
Rookie list
Out (retain Gorter :crossmark: and McInnes, and Watson/Bayok on Cat B):
1. Brophy (cat b)
2. Petrie
3. Tunbridge
4. Snadden :heavycheck::heavycheck:

Good effort except for keeping Gorter on the rookie list , he offers us nothing he is a tweener and not a particularly good one at that.
He hasn't improved as a player and he plays a position we are long on, even though its only a rookie spot he is a list clogger.

Snadden on the other hand has improved is younger and plays in a position we are short on and has much better skills than Gorter.

So IMO Gorter goes and Snadden get another year.
I could name 15 younger WAFL player I would prefer to give a rookie spot to before Gorter.

That's what I'd prefer.

I was just guessing that we wouldn't delist someone after 1 year.

And we wouldn't have taken him considering we already had two very good young rucks on the list. Wellingham was the right move at the time, he hasn't worked out because of a combination of his own lack of interest and our poor use of him. We brought him in as an inside out midfielder, he gets injured and when he returns we play him a couple of games on the wing, decide it's not working out and throw him on a half back flank.

I’d be disappointed if we didn’t in this case. Admit the mistake and move on.
