Weller is going either this trade period or next ..has agreed to move to GC and Clayton and co saying they will do whatever they can to get him there .

Fremantle now saying No to Wellers request ....Fremantle could have cleaned up there with GC picks .

Bunch of hypocrits really.

Chase Wilson whos under contract who wants to return home but say no to Weller who is as close to identical trade value and circumstances as you can get.

Everyone- players, agents, clubs just keep dancing around the fact that more often than not a player is leaving to go 'home' because of a big fat long term contract is waiting for them, more than their current club is willing to pay. $$$$ See Dane Beams, C.Cameron, Weller, Wilson. Being near family is a bonus. Sick of player managers giving the sob story when theyve worked out an agreed contract in about June

All these contracted players requesting trades is making me antsy. Time to lock away Duggan plz
Maybe there should only be 1 year contracts in the AFL and a free for all at the end of each year... At least there would be some excitement during trade period ;)

Yep, players have what amounts to effective free agency.

The shoe that needs to drop is the right of refusal on a trade. Players should not have the right to decline a trade. (Maybe put a contract value floor in - I.e players on less than $150k maybe can decline).

Just having a quick look at the numbers (obviously don't tell the whole story but...) the top 10 of 2012 Draft have an average of 78.4 games between them, Wellingham has played 79 Games, all draft picks after 10 (excluding rookie promotions) have an average of 33.5 Games. The only players to have played more games have been Grundy on 82, Viney (F/S) 88 and Hunter (F/S) 84. Up until this point, he probably was the best addition we could have taken...

We traded for security over potential.

Disagreed aggressively with the assessment of Wellingham ability before the trade and the argument that we’ve used him poorly would apply to any draftee, only it would probably be more true. :/

Well said. I agree with your assessment of the draft depth.
I'm not sure. As with most things AFL, the focus seems to be mainly on the talent available over there and how they go against each other. If we could trade 13 and 30 (or whatever it is) to 2 picks in the low 20's it may let us pick 2 pretty good local lads who otherwise may not be available in our picks down the line and I'm not convinced they would be any worse than the ones touted after the first 6 or so. You also don't have to put up with this "go home" nonsense.

Stan Wright is better then Snadden but everybody is intoxicated by Snadden's height and hope for a bigger sized mid.Sometimes ability doesn't come with size.

Wright is in the same ilk as Masten. Perennial performer at WAFL level but doesn’t have to the tools to play at the highest level.

One you bother to develop, the other you don’t even look at twice.

Too short and no real points of difference suggest to me that he wouldn't come close to AFL-standard.

One of the bests kicks going around but lacks the pace needed to get separation and has a mediocre inside game.

Is that an established fact that they left because the club told them that they weren't getting their contracts renewed? Or is it speculation? And if that did happen is there any indication as to why? Did they have a falling out with Simpson or something?
Believe it was reported a few weeks ago 5(?) coaches were out of contract with a few being told they weren't being renewed. Maybe they just weren't up to it or maybe, in the likes of Longmuir, they just needed to to move to further their careers.

Who in the low 20's would you be wanting?

whats the go with Jamie Graham , he was at east Perth without success and then forward line coach at west coast, comments on BF earlier suggest he wasnt regarded very highly

Wellers played an important role in our team that went to a GF. He's been good for us compared to what we could have had in the draft. No complaints from me.

If everyone played like wellers in that grand final we might have won
