I'm wary of assumptions that you will get a good play in a super draft no matter what. 2001 is always talked up as a super draft but this was the top 20

1. Luke Hodge
2. Luke Ball
3. Chris Judd
4. Graham Polak
5. Xavier Clarke
6. Ashley Sampi
7. David Hale
8. Jimmy Bartel
9. Luke Molan
10. Sam Power
11. Richard Cole
12. Brent Reilly
13. Nick Dal Santo
14. Ashley Watson
15. Barry Brooks
16. Rick Ladson
17. James Kelly
18. Shane Harvey
19. Jason Gram
20. Daniel Elstone
Still amazed the Dorks traded out of the top 3.

So based on the above list I personally have the following classifications:
2 Legends - Hodge and Judd are likely as some point to be voted AFL legends
3 Hall of fame players - Bartel, Kelly and Del Santo (although I will accept arguments against Del being here)
2 Above average AFL players - Hale, Gram would qualify here
5-6 Players who forged reasonable AFL careers

So yes in terms of actual hit rates for AFL careers is lowish in that only half really had some sort of AFL career the interesting one is the high number of players who had exceptional careers being hall of fame/legends of the game.

Next year the best draft in a decade apparently (someone posted stats on another thread about it on BF) so trading away next years picks is madness, considering we'll probably still be balls deep in a rebuild...

Classic West Coast though. Winning four of the last five of those dead runners in 2009 cost us a shot at the likes of Martin and Fyfe.

Is it? 70% hit rate of a reasonable AFL career for a top 20 pick seems pretty good, especially with a 40% shot at an above average AFL player.

The top 10 of drafts past have been littered with numerous failures, and it's even harder to dodge the future trams and go home factors on draft day.

we should look at bundling Wellingham and our 2nd rounder for the GCS or any team willing for a first and 3rd rounder, although i'd be fairly happy to keep wellers as back up depth as well

Question: Is Wilson worth a 1st round pick ? Should Eagles make a late play for him and throw our first rounder to GWS? From what I've heard/read (notalot) sounds like he's going to gem of a player

Gaj was father son and Swann was like in the 40s. Sam Mitchell and Lake were also drafted that year.

He is worth a pick in the 20s.

I'm hearing that the Gaff+Pick for Hartung, Birchall and Stratton deal should go through early tomorrow.

You need to go see a Doctor to get your ear canals cleaned out because all the shit in there is distorting you from hearing properly.

Assuming that the deal for pick 9 has fallen through, would it be safe to say we're done for the trade period?

Dons and Dogs needed that pick swap with us much more than we did, so I expect we demanded exceptionally favourable terms and they turned it down. Meh, I like the way we played it and that we considered such a risky option in the first place.
