"Mature" tall defenders in state leagues for a later pick:
Sean Gregory
Brody Mihocek
Tyler Keitel

Any takers?

keitel plays forward now. seen alot of him. no from me

the KPD stocks in this draft are actually very good, thats where i think you will see the bargain picks come from

for example naughton is better than logue IMO

I presume pick 8's a little high for Naughton?

Jordan Lockyer (Subiaco) named at CHB in the WAFL Team of the Year. Any good? Tall enough for a KPP?

Kelly should read this and go for the money

FORMER West Coast defender Mitch Brown has told of his pain after the club repeatedly changed its mind over whether it wanted him to play on in 2017.

Brown was delisted at the end of the 2016 season and did not find another AFL home after playing 94 games in an injury-ravaged career for the Eagles. He was selected with Pick 16 in the 2006 national draft.

He missed the 2015 season with a full knee reconstruction and played four games in his final year at the club.

The third of those was in Round 17 against Carlton, ahead of which he had expressed his interest in playing on at the Eagles. But after a list management meeting, the club made the call not to offer him a new deal.

“I was preparing to play Carlton at the ‘G at the time and I felt betrayed,” Brown told The Outer Sanctum podcast.
“I was hurt by my family and my initial reaction was I’d totally been blindsided. I thought I was good for one more. I decided I wasn’t going to get bitter.

“I was going to use the last five weeks to celebrate my 10 years at the footy club.”

Brown played just one more game in Eagles colours — the losing elimination final against the Western Bulldogs — with his career drama coming as his wife Shae, a star netballer, became a free agent for the new Super Netball competition.

She was offered a contract with the West Coast Fever but was then recruited by Collingwood. Shae accepted the deal to move to Melbourne, but just half an hour later, the Eagles changed their mind about Mitch, offering him a new deal.

“For her it was a hard time because she loves her netball and we made the gutsy decision to say, ‘OK we’ll knock back the netball contract in Perth’,” Brown said.

“That was really hard for her to do because she grew up with that club and was loyal to the Fever, but she made the brave decision to sign with Collingwood.
“We’d finally decided that we were going to go to Melbourne and then this comes and hits us and we’re back to square one, where we were just confused what to do.”

As the trade period continued, the Eagles allowed Brown to take his time, with the defender eventually deciding to accept.

He told The Outer Sanctum that he was willing to play in the WAFL and live away from his wife.

But then came the shock Sam Mitchell recruitment, leading to West Coast again withdrawing its offer to Brown.

“Day one of the trade period I got a phone call while I was overseas. It was from the Eagles and they sounded a bit upset,” Brown said.

“I literally had the contract in my hands, I had it. Obviously a few things had developed pretty quickly with the Sam Mitchell stuff and, just like that, the contract was taken away from me and I couldn’t really do anything about it.

“I got off the phone incredibly upset and wondering how I was going to tell my wife. I didn’t know what to say. That was it.”

It was a tough saga for Brown, who said he learned a lot about loyalty in elite sport through the process.

“As a footy club, loyalty is one of our core values,” he said.

“We have it written on the wall and the coaching staff, the club, they expect loyalty. They expect excellence and they expect us to go out on game day and give everything for them.

“What I felt that day was that they expected everything from me but when it was on the other hand, they don’t show it back.”

In 2017, Brown has played for St Kevin’s Old Boys in the top flight of the VAFA. The team earned its way through to the Grand Final on Saturday.

White & Rice have more chance of making it than DMac. I get that they play different roles, but DMac has played 22 senior games & still looks like a deer in headlights when he plays. White slotted straight in like a 50-100 game player within 2-3 games
How can you honestly say rice has a better chance of making it when he hasn't played a senior game? Thought dmac showed signs later on in the year.

Dal Santo trying to keep a straight face when discussing Josh Kelly and off field speculation at the AFLPA awards... Priceless!

I'm sure it wasn't because of his Norf connections :D

Better ****ing not be he works for us

Here's a laugh. Wild rumours at Port Charlie Dixon has walked out to join you blokes on a six year deal.

No offence but gee whizz **** that
Another one who misses from 30 out at a slight angle lol

Where do people come up with this stuff???

I know SFA about Jackson Trengove, except a vague idea that he was perhaps fairly highly rated a few years back, but now not so much -- and that is it. Couldn't tell you how he plays or what he looks like.

What are people's opinions?

Sonny clearly not a fan, I'd hope he's not a dinosaur...

I think he's actually a very good player...

And he's most importantly a free agent so people saying they'd rather Hombsch or Corr is moot. They're not so easily gettable.

I'm sure the members would love that when he's in and out of the VFL like the last couple of years.
Very talented player who would be regular best 22 in any team.
His off field issues have seen his football standard drop dramatically, and if and when those issues are sorted out he can/will be a match winner.

He'd fit in pretty well at the Saints....... His kicking on goal is all over the place. He was your best player on the weekend though. We'll take him to save his feelings from Kochie.

Has dMac really palyed 22 games?(someone said this previously.) ?

I've said it numerous times this year but extreme due diligence would need to be done on any potential Bulldogs recruit. A LOT has been going on down there the last 12+ months.

Have you heard anything about Hombsch? I think it was TEW mentioned him when people talked about getting a KPB.

Richmond the ******* flogs

The campaigners were trading in both Armo and Trengrove.

Decided not too and both are cooked 2 years later.

Well I hope Armo isn't cooked but geez, wish we could do with some of that luck.

The moment we got Carlisle he turns out doing adult sherbert and got banned for a year

Cursed I ******* swear
Yeah from the start of our (foundation year.)existence.
If the draft was in place from our very first year of VFL we would have had a lot of Pick1s.
The Priority Pick came in when we just happen to be doing well ,and then they canned it,when we went back down the bottom and i think that happened twice.
2009 GF,with the ball hitting the post and being paid a goal, then the videa replay comes in soon after.
We are a team thats always in the wrong place at the wrong time.
And i am sure there would be many other scenarios i havent mentioned.
