Would have been really campaignery if they didn't give him a crack at a coaching role part time given how loyal Dave is and Andrew is a good person/leader.

GOLD Coast has suffered an injury scare with recruit Harrison Wigg hurting his right leg at preseason training.

Wigg was taking part in a contested drill when he hit the ground, clutching at his right leg behind the posts.

The 21-year-old — who was traded from Adelaide to the Gold Coast for pick 54 of this year’s draft and the Suns fourth round selection next year — was helped from the field by two trainers and didn’t return for the rest of the sessions.

It is so far unclear as to the extent of the injury that could put a dint in his plans to use the preseason to push for an AFL debut.

Wigg is untried at AFL level after spending three seasons playing for Adelaide’s SANFL side.

Wigg — who can play both halfback and in the midfield — saw an opportunity to finally make his mark at the highest level with the Suns under the club’s new coach Stuart Dew.

Gold Coast have otherwise boasted a relatively healthy list so far this preseason.

Sam Day is back completing some training with the main group and edging closer to contact work while Pearce Hanley is running strongly after hand surgery.

Michael Barlow is showing now lingering issues from his broken leg earlier this year, producing his trademark endurance that has him setting the bar for the team again.

What happened to Schoenfeld who holds the record for the 3km at the draft combine - now that he is built like an AFL footballer instead of a twig he can't run anymore?

Getting really good vibes about Dew as a senior coach.
Apparently spent time this week down at Lennox Heads (Northern NSW) with the junior players (1-4 years) on their team building camp rather than taking training for the senior guys back home .
This - following on from personally visiting new draftees in their home states - shows he is being directly involved with our younger players and building a rapport with them.
Didn't happen under past administrations.

Players won't know what to do with themselves - playing for a coach instead of in spite of them.

Hopefully he is making weekly house calls to the Scott residence as well.

I actually hope there isn’t a Q and A would much rather speeches or someone from the club asking questions than the microphone get allowed to go into the audience.
