Really wanted a tall with that pick, Brennan Cox, still think he will be a beauty. If we were to take a small, had Fisher in a list of about 5 guys, along with Mutch, Rotham, Drew, Clarke.

Fisher has done very well to date
I really wanted Bolton at that pick. I thought his game would translate a lot better at AFL level but Fisher's ability forward has surprised me.

He's never had one, he's just had a host of tricks that served him well at state levels.

All of that being said, the endurance gap we're talking about is the difference between him being a permanent wingman, and him being a career half-forward.

He's made enough strides to be the latter, and if that's his limit, that's still ok for us. Even if he does develop the tank, that may still be his position if the game keeps evolving towards taller wingers who can fly for a grab in a 1v1.

I think your over analysing Jimmae. He's a kid and his running is good and getting better. We could say similar about so many young players. It was certainly never at a level where the club would be worried

Some of his fumbles have been Kane Lucas like

Really think the guy needs to get to an optometrist if he hasn't already. Seems to have issues with depth perception. I had similar issues that only presented at night.

Day games and training, rarely fumbled, rarely missed targets. As soon as the lights came on, the ball was like a bar of soap. Getting falconed wasn't uncommon.

Went to an optometrist, sorted me out. Difference between day and night ball handling and skills disappeared.

Literally AND figuratively, your problem was like night and day ......

Exactly!

During the day I felt like I was attacking the footy, at night it felt like the footy was attacking me! I recognise the stiffness in Kerridge when the ball is coming at him as I used to feel the same way. Very nervous when you can't see the ball properly!

Sticks had a similar issue IIRC. Found it harder under the lights.

Maybe these might help ...

$50K ..... ??

We couldn't find another 50 G's for the best small forward in the comp but somehow managed to dig up $750K for Thomas.

Pick #7 for Jacksh & Whiley instead of snaffling Two-Metre Peter.

**** you Mick Malthouse, ******** extraordinaire !!

I won't be listening to the football on ABC this year......

Not sure night/day is Kerridge's issue. I like Sam and I like how he's improved each year. Expect him to get better again this year. But the fumbling I've seen occurs during the day games too.

Night and day was the problem for me, I'm saying it looks like Kerridge has some sort of depth perception issue which makes it difficult for him to see the moving ball properly.

What Fishers times were in 2016 are no longer relevant as with all other draftees. Why are we looking back at a beep test from a kid in year 12 and deciding that is the definitive measurement for the future. How is he testing in 2018, that’s the question.

“Host of tricks that served him well at state level” - that seems to be a very dismissive assessment of how well he performed.

Jim l think your focusing in very strongly on one or two points and not looking at the whole player profile. Fishers not perfect, he will have his weaknesses but on the whole lm very happy with how he is progressing and the use of pick 25 on him.

Ps. In the last couple of years lve seen a shift towards recruiting short players with better agility and ball handling.

You’re right about that sort of leadership Asos shows. Perhaps he slots into a bench spot? I just don’t think Jones can be passed over but quite like the idea of squeezing ASOS into the team somewhere. He brings some brilliant intangibles.

Any Silvagni on the list if 100% fit should play. It’s the genes people .... the genes.

This aspect of his game improved. Despite a terrible turnover v Essendon late last year he had a very good game. His final 6 games were B grade and he deserves his spot in the rotation. He thrives on getting a roll that suits him and he is clearly reviewing his tapes and sticking to simple instructions. When Cripps and Curnow were gone Id was him getting the Ball out to the right ball movers. And he has a great set shot. Got us back into games on countless occasions. I think he makes the bench spot this year easily.

He was slightly better towards the end of the year.

However, he can be a momentum killer and should be considered depth, not first 22 on an AFL list.

He didn't thrive, he had a worse season than he did in 2016 and was getting games due to injury to other players.

I expect this trend to continue and feel like he will play with the Northern Blues a lot this year.

I wouldn't say he "got us back into games" any more than any other player.

I don't like bagging our own players and I do hope he turns it around.

It's not manager mode in FIFA: some people never respond well to endurance training, others excel.

no

I was talking about Fisher.

That's even more surprising. Fisher reminds me of a young Dale Thomas across half forward.

Will be a huge player for us.

His Bowl haircut was pretty sh1t
I'll pay that. Seems to have righted that wrong now though.

Having a look at Fish's TOG numbers it's not terrible, pretty much 70% which is probably in the bracket of where most 1st year players participate, although he did spend a fair bit of time up forward so perhaps it should be higher.

Other younger player first year TOG for reference:

Jack 79%
Macreadie 76%
Weitering 75%
Willo 75%
Samo 73%
Cuningham 71%
Pickett 70%
Fisher 70%
McKay 69%
Marchbank 68%
Plowman 67%
Charlie 66%
Lamb 66%
Lang 61%
Kerridge 54%
Cripps 52%
Garlett 47%
Kennedy 45%
Docherty 33%

You'd think Fisher (and most of our younger guys) would have some targets/KPIs for this year like pushing up towards that 80-82% range. if you split the time equally between all team members it's about 82%. Typically you have a few with higher numbers at each end of the ground; we had Jones averaging 96%, Simpson 94%, Docherty 93%, Plowman 91%, Rowe 89%, Marchbank 88% & Casboult 88%. Then there's guys like Ed, Weitering, Kerridge & Gibbs at 85-86%.

Those guys who put out higher percentages drops the required average for the rest of the team down to about 77-78 which isn't much of a stretch for the 2nd-3rd year guys at all (if they're not already there).
