Lynch is way over rated for the numbers being associated with his impending move. I am stoked that we aren't in the running for him. Reportedly anyway.

Not having the best season but a forward in a weak side, that's going to happen. You would hope that we get good and can make use here.

Trading next years 1st + McKay/cunners for a first this year....

Every chance our pick next year could be pick 1 so no chance I will be doing that and would want much more than a top 10 pick.

Maybe but if it's a player like Casbout then I would do it in a heartbeat. Casboult and next years first pick for the Gold Coast's first pick this year would be a terrific win. Because we are getting closer to completion draft picks are going to start to become less valuable to us. Pick 6 this year is probably more valuable to us than any top 10 pick next year. I mean it depends on the talent available but generally the top 7 or 8 in the draft are much of a muchness. That extra year of development by the time we are up and about means a lot.

I think it's a win win for both clubs there. I mean next years draft may be a bomb and we might finish 13th. Who knows. But I would like steak knives, that is all.

I think it comes down to how we rate our players and who we can get in free agents as to who we can afford to lose. This is the time where we trade some of our draft picks from a few years ago because we judge them as not being great, before other clubs judge them as that. This is where the list manager earns his money.

It's very unlikely we get pick one - check out the draws as follows
Brisbane have- Freo, Us, Hawks, Crows, Cats, North, Pies, Suns, Eagles
We have - Port, Lions, Saints, Hawks, Sun, Giants, Freo, Doggies, Crows.
If we want pick one, we best be lining up against Lions with Crippa, Fish, Dow, Charlie, SPS, Simmo, all out with of the Flu or Gastro that week.

We will win at least three of these games.

I think not winning anymore games would mean we have intended to with our easy draw, we are capable of some pretty good footy, but I agree, I think pick one will probably not be ours.

You're a glass half full kind of guy. Every chance we lose all of them. SOS will be licking his lips though. Regardless, I don't see us having pick 1 because I feel like SOS will trade it for a player and a pick or two.

That's my gut feel as well … totally my opinion only though …. there is some serious midfield talent scattered right through to the 30's this year (extrapolated ranking from outside sources) and of course that may not be where the said ranked player will actually be drafted.

We wouldn't be stupid at all. Shiel is quality and exactly what we need.

If you're courting a player and he decides he wants to leave, you can't then simply tell him to hang around another year and we'll grab you cheaper the next.
It doesn't work like that.

Again though, Shiel may come cheaper than for his real value, as he is a FA next year and if he wants out, GWS may well accomodate.
GWS won't allow Taranto to go along with him, but maybe Setterfield and we know SOS likes Setterfield. So would something like that work for us?
i.e. Shiel & Setterfield for pick #1 (should we have it)

Fair enough, now where has Shiel said he wants to leave this year?

One of our most trusted insiders (Shmurf 3) has said Shiel is the big one NEXT YEAR.

As for Shiel and Setterfield for #1 I say no to that.

Reason being, we are still a few years away from finals, let alone being contenders. By then Shiel will be in his late 20s to early 30s and Setterfield will be battling injury, meanwhile that #1 pick may very well be tearing up the competition.

I say we wait until Shiel actually announces he wants to join us this year. When he does that, then we can talk about trading for him this year.

fwiw (and it's my opinion so maybe not much :p) I don't think Shiel is the type to leave mid contract anyway.

As long as we beat st kilda

Gunna be hard not to win … when by a lot of reports Billings will rip off his jumper at half time to reveal the Navy Blue ….

I think that sometimes when the right talent presents, you just have to take it, as what you want may not be there when you need it.
Shiel has at least 6 and maybe more years left in him and is an ideal fit for us, so why ignore that now if you've done your work on him for someone who may or may not be there in 2019,20 etc?

TheRedPill painted the bigger picture pretty well. Have a read.

Not saying that I think all of them are good, but there would be many reasons for both Clubs to do a trade for Shiel this year.
Assuming current ladder positions are maintained,
#1 for Shiel and #9 would value Shiel at #9, and something like this would form the basis of the deal.

I still believe we will win another 2-3 games and i doubt the Dockers will jump us again
Really at this stage do we even care? As long as the game plan is being implemented …. and the players are filling their required roles ….

Does it really matter?

The ones that DON'T follow the game plan and DON'T follow the roles required ….. well …. that speaks volumes in itself …..

We will inject 8-10 players this year that will make their "Journey" take a different path to CFC.

TBF, that's a terrible example. LeBron only cares about what is best for LeBron.

Actually no. It's a terrible example for the opposite reason.

People forget that when Lebron originally left Cleve he could have as a free agent but he didn't. He orchestrated a sign and trade so Cleve would get something for him (from memory they got 5 draft picks for him )

Easy big fella, sure you know i don't analyse development by wins and losses.

For me it has always been the long game, play the kids, draft best available, trade needs and add layers to the game plan

Yes had a read, he is unsure whether it's this year or next.

The rest is just his opinion, which of course probably carries a lot more weight than mine, but I'm still going to stick to my guns.

I can't see Shiel wanting to walk out after re-signing last year. It makes no sense. Why would he sign a 2 year deal then walk out the very next year? He'd also be hanging on to the hope that next year they won't have so much bad luck with injuries and be able to have a real crack at a flag, whereas with us he's going to be part of a struggling team that is still years away.

My gut still tells me it'll happen next year under free agency. Either Shiel gets a flag with GWS and is therefore satisfied with his time there and ready to come home, or the Giants miss the mark again and he realises it's a sinking ship. Either way, next year is still looking like the year.

LeBron of 2018 is a far different beast than the 2010 LeBron. LeBron was never even his teams highest paid player until he returned to Cleveland. LeBron cares about himself first, his team second. If the Lakers were to offer him the world to go there, he wont care in the slightest that Cleveland get nothing. He will not do a sign and trade this time. Why would he?

Yeah I have a feeling that's what will happen to them anyway - one or two others wanting out etc. Plus with the increases to salary caps, they'd have to be in a REALLY shit position to not match a good offer to Sheil. I also wonder whether we would be prepared to put huge dollars on the offer too. SOS seems to be one for smart management of the layer payments and would avoid paying Tom Boyd type situations where a player is earning almost double the next highest paid.

I think the Giants house will crumble, Shiel and Cognileo both FA next year, can they keep both, Kelly also ooc at the same time. Greene has already deferred half of next years salary to later in his deal so they can manage payments.

This is already with the dogs and Tigs paying part of Lids and Grifs wages.

I’m pretty confident that if Brisbane have pick 1, they will go with Walsh. He’s a mad Brisbane supporter (yes, they apparently exist) and there’s no way they pass up the opportunity to add an elite talent who actually wants to be there.

I also wouldn’t rule out the possibility of Adelaide swinging for the fences. Best crop of South Australians for years, they have plenty of draft capital up their sleeve... why not.

schache says hi.
