Would people be happy with something like this at the end of the year

Free Agents: 2-3 of
Wallis
Dahlhaus
Lester
GHS

Trades:
Lloyd (Pick 20)
Brodie/Scrimshaw (Future second round plus some swaps)

Draft:
Pick One: Jack Lukosius/Sam Walsh
Pick 19: Riley Collier-Dawkins (if we get PP)
Pick 30: Jack Bytel
Pick 64: Sam Collins

Rookies:
BSOS
Hickmott
Sam Colquhoun
Haiden Schloithe

Good mix of mature bodies and kids. The names are debatable but the types aren't. It's not just about best 22 but about some more mature bodies and importantly depth

Not making it as being busts? As I don't see too many we have taken in the first 3 rounds of each draft that look like being busts

Or not making it, because they won't be elite and only A/B grades? You don't need a list of elite players to be competitive or successful, but you do need these kids to gain more experience
At this stage I mean being in a position to have us competitive enough to get off the bottom of the ladder. So far over the past 3 drafts the only one who has shown they will be a star is Curnow. Fisher has been a great pick and looks like being a good player.

SPS, Dow, McKay, Weitering, Williamson and Marchbank (I'll include him) have all shown promising signs but nowhere near enough to say they will be locks for our best 22 for the next 5+ years. Everyone of those names are replaceable.

None of the names will be replaced any time soon. All have shown that they can compete at the level.

You can also add LOB, Kennedy and Plowman to that list

What does this mean to you ?

I made it up because it sounded good even though it's nonsense. I mean by the very nature of our young core of players being young, it is as likely as it can be that our predominantly young core of players WILL improve over the next few seasons by virtue of getting older/more mature. How far, how much, dunno. These will be proven in time. But it's as factual as something uncertain/future oriented can be that our young core will get better overall/as a collective. There's no chance whatsoever we've seen the best of Fisher, Weitering, SPS, Marchbank, Curnow, Dow et al.

They are a very exciting bunch of players. Good times are ahead despite the darkness we traversing through at the moment in 2018. SOS has done a sensational job with our draft picks in last three years.

Realistically it probably ends up being:

Free Agents: 1 of
Lester
GHS

Trade:
Scrimshaw (for PP 19, plus pick downgrades 23->25, 27->30)

Draft:
Pick 1: Jack Lukosius/Sam Walsh
Pick 25: Luke Valente
Pick 30: Jack Bytel
Pick 64: Sam Collins

Rookies:
BSOS
Hickmott
Sam Colquhoun
Haiden Schloithe

Not over the moon about the Free Agents, but would take either if possible.
Scrimshaw more gettable than Brodie I think, though I'd prefer Brodie. Reckon Lloyd will stay or go somewhere with a flag chance. Straight swap with Collingwood for Moore?
Draftees look solid. 4 the max, I reckon, we won't want to bring in another massive intake of kids.
Rookies the same. Couple of Father/Sons, couple of mature bodies on a free hit.

Again, when was the last time a club ended with 1 win ?
Not gws
When did a club ever **** up 8 drafts and have to start again? Never. What the ****s the point of trying to find a comparison. Our situation is vastly different to any other clubs for a multitude of reasons.

If you wish to try to compare us to previous teams that have struggled for whatever reason you cannot then dismiss gws over a trivial reason.

The best recent examples of teams spending a long time down the bottom and hoping to build a list are. GWS, Melbourne, St Kilda, Brisbane and Gold Coast. It just shows how hard it is from our position.

I don’t know enough about most of these guys but I do want to look (like you have) at the best from WAFL and SANFL... I get frustrated when we consider rookies from the Northen Blues with known defiencies and the wrong body type.

Yep, I do know that I want to make sure we look (like you have) at the WAFL/SANFL best. I get frustrated when we consider offering rookie spots to Northern Blues players with known deficiencies in critical areas and the wrong body type.

We ne3d to rookie Palmer from the NB’s

Stop lookin at stats and scoreboard and start looking at how we’re playing! This is why we are losing, but at the same time, why we are heading in the right direction.

If you look at our top players from the weekend, what stands out to you? Kennedy had a ripper, Cripps was his usual best, O’Brien showed a good skill set whilst not having a heavy impact. Polson, Shaw, Weitering and Silvagni all had their best games for the season, and while unskilled, Graham had a heavy impact. McKay has arguably had one of his best too, minus the scoring, by upgrading his work rate to a standard which saw him, as a key forward, be a key player in moving the ball forward. Jarrod Pickett played hard and fast and came out as our best small.

Looking at our poorer players, we wouldn’t want older players there. Casboult had a poor work rate, seeing him with five touches. Wright hasn’t been playing his best this season, and this game didn’t show any different. Murphy did provide good movement, except his disposal was unimpactful, and I didn’t even realise how often he had the ball. Lobbe was the best of a bad situation, but still triumphed over the experienced Ceglar. Jones Injured, Fisher injured.

We had 12 players under 22 and 14 under 24. Not to mention the 2 players injured during the game.

Once Daisy went out our lack of depth became exposed, with only 7 AFL players playing VFL footy, consisting of very late picks and rookies. Graham, who wouldn’t make a best 22 for any other club had to come in.

As off 5pm Sunday, we had 27 players to choose from in selection committee, likely 29 at the moment. Richmond has more than 40!

You can’t expect to come close in games, where we have half of our players as rookies, and a quarter not expected to play AFL at all

I’m not sure wher you found half these rookies, but there are other players not only knocking, but trying to break their way in to an AFL side.
Lloyd will have to go for a future 1st round and maybe their 1st this year for one of our seconds.
Bytel won’t make it that low and neither will Collier Dawkins

We ne3d to rookie Palmer from the NB’s
What is his defensive stuff like, yep he has kicked goals at that level but we have had a few of them, can he give us any pressure when the other team brings it out. Got to have half forwards that can do both in my opinion and that is why we need to replace Wright/Lamb etc...asap. Not easy to find them I grant you.

Would love to get Jordan Dawson from the Sydney swans with a late pick. Big bodied midfielder/forward 190cm 88kg 21 year old , has only played 1 game but is highly rated at swans and earmarked as kennedy replacement . Had a outstanding 2017 neafl season but missed bit of footy this year due to injury. Latest game 29 touches, 9 marks, 3 goals & 23 tackles.

That would not be a bad result at all.

But it's not realistic.

And where are we getting pick #20 from?

Sounds like a good idea if they're willing to take a late pick.
