Could we make a play for Jed Anderson? Out of contract and both parties reportedly a long way off each other. North too busy flashing their wallet around town to the neglect of their own players. Injury plagued in the first 2 years at North but he’s been impressive this year.
Ben Jacobs is another one who hasn’t re-signed. Is a free agent, pretty extensive injury history, but I had him in my Ultimate Footy team this year and watched him closely. Would be a very good addition for us, has a lot of mongrel.

What does Graham average at VFL level? Kerridge? Disposals at a lower level doesn't mean much if they are not good enough to turn that form in the AFL (or decent form). I would hope our list management guys are looking at their capabilities and not stats.

As for those mentioning Kelly, he is of a few that come in and make a side better. More often than not players picked from 2nd tier competitions get chewed up and spat out. As long as we don't 'Have' to take a 2nd tier player and they don't take up a spot on our primary list, im ok with it. otherwise, pass.

Graham or Kerridge?
They may rack up some numbers, but are they the best midfielders running around the VFL?
Because Nelson IS the best midfielder running round the WAFL and racking up big numbers.
So what is your take on Nelson?
When you have watched him play, what are the knocks on him?
Because I cannot see to much.
Having an outstanding year, and hopefully a club picks him up.
Although Arrow has the mail that he is following a motocross dream.
:)

I wasn't having a go at you but just pointing out relying on average possessions as a guide to how good a player is, is flawed. I havnt seen him play and wont see him play so wouldn't have a clue what he is like.

But this idea the AFL may allow us access to 2 players from lower levels is of a concern. My concern is do they take a normal position on a list, a rookie list or supplementary to our list? For all the Kelly stories, there are a lot more failures of lower level talent who get chewed up and spat out as being too good for VFL but not good enough for AFL.

What’s his strengths and liabilities?

His form this year has been more than outstanding.
Gets his own ball.
Racks up the big numbers, and not from cheapies around the back.
Is good overhead.
Spreads well.
Not slow by any means, but not blistering speed.
I just see a hard working midfielder, that does his role for the team.
If Shane doesn't take out the Sandover this year then something is terribly wrong.

And having seen the season that Boekhorst had before being drafted, which I thought was good, Nelson is miles in front of that form.
Passmark, would have more to say as I think he follows West Perth.
I just see how damaging he is against Peel Thunder, who have AFL listed players (Freo), and read the write ups from the games.
He makes our Peel players look second rate.

:)

Apologies mate :)
Yep, I get what you are saying, and why would we bring in a guy who potentially may not make it and then just adds a player we technically do not need.
Nelson is having a stellar year.
I am just one of those supporters that loves seeing mature age guys get rewarded for player outstanding footy in the state leagues.
Gives us all who never made it a bit of hope :)
But Nelson also had a very good year last year also.
His workrate/disposals are showing that he has taken his game to the next level.
And that level has him at the very peak as the best player currently in the WAFL (my opinon).

Just hoping he can be picked up and see what he could do at AFL level.
Kelly may have gone to the cats, but I have absolutely loved watching him play for the Cats this year and proving that he could take his game from the WAFL to AFlevel.
:)

Beyond happy if we walked away from this trade/draft period with Walsh, Setterfield, MM, Fasolo, 2 mature agers good to go, BSOS etc

While keeping our 1st next year for potentially Kelly/Cerra or whoever
Sheil wont make you happy?

Id be happy. But i see it differently. I want him but next year. Dont think we as a team will excel as much as most hope with him in the team.

Can he be nabbed as a FA next year if he doesn't leave this year. Seems almost certain.

We are a fair way off still. Thats in terms of players, not years. If we can hold our 1st next year and take either best available in the draft, a cerra type, kelly maybe? Who knows and get shiel as a FA. Our list just sky rockets.

Yes if we took shiel id be ok with it. But is it 1 year too early in my eyes. Yes.

Either way we are on a great path. Im not about quick fixes. Not saying shiel is that. But that 1st next year along with shiel as a FA could really help imo
