At least King doesn’t call the games, Dermie kills me.
I particularly love it how Dermie knows exactly what a player was/is thinking, because if that player wasn't thinking the same as Dermie then he was doing it wrong, obviously. I end up yelling at the TV when Dermie starts one of his 'Have a look at the way he....' like nobody else in the world but Dermie has seen whatever it is he's bullshitting about.

Basil is popular at 7 for some reason. Rumours that he was lined up for Sunrise to replace Kochie, but with Today constantly shooting itself in the foot, they wouldn’t want to change anything yet.

It's because they wanted a spare Commetti if they needed one. And now they don't.

If only.

It's a bit like saying Rowey is a spare Bruce just because they come from the same state.

Sounds like channel 7 have actually been listening to complaints if they are going for their 2 year phase out option with Fawlty.

He hosted Sunrise over the Summer, and was MC for the Australian Open presentations.

He’s not being phased out.

Will win a gold logie by 2025.

I quite like Dermie. But he does bus best and most interesting work on a panel show where be can analyse and discuss play. He has a great coaching brain.

Quite often you can tell he gets bored commentating and drifts off into his own tangent of self importance

Phased out of AFL, not channel 7...

Should be like Roo & just stick to the panel rather than comments.

Rowey's a spare KG. Even down to the Language Other Than English he speaks.

I agree he will get the 3 day sunrise gig which will be the reason why he can't do as many games this year.
Dont know about the Gold logie but I definitely agree he isn't going anywhere.

Would almost mean the death of trading completely.

Players < 25yo are automatically contracted to their club.
Players > 25yo are automatically unrestricted free agents whenever they're out of contract.

The only players who get traded are <25yo who the club doesn't want, and >25yo who is still in contract. It would significantly enhance player mobility for those aged 25+, but most of that movement would be via free agency.

I don't like the idea of players being traded completely against their will. This proposal basically strips them of all rights as soon as they put ink to paper. The only safety net offered is in the case of players being traded repeatedly within a 3-year window. Players shouldn't have veto rights on their final destination, but nor should they be traded completely against their will. I do not believe players should be forced to accept a trade if they are contracted and wish to remain at their existing club. I think a better solution would be that players who wish to be traded are allowed to nominate a state where they wish to go, but not a specific club. The club then negotiates the best deal they can make, and the player has the option of staying or accepting the club's trade.

It's also bad for the AFL's equalisation policies. It's all very well to argue that losing a UFA just frees up $$ for the club to buy a replacement... but that assumes there are players willing (wanting) to play for that club. Brisbane & North Melbourne are not exactly overwhelmed with players wanting to go there, no matter how much money they're willing to offer. For these clubs it's all one-way traffic.

As fanciful as that article is, players being traded against their will won't happen as long as the AFLPA exist with their current power to veto basically anything that makes a player uncomfortable.

I don't mind the points instead of picks idea though.

The AFL were dumb to give the players free agency without altering the current trading restrictions.

I think it is going to be almost impossible to go back now and change it

But it was universally applauded at the time ?.......oh do you mean, now that people have actually thought through the consequences ?

You can never go back on any new direction ......but there's always an opportunity in future Enterprise Agreements to lever trading restrictions / alterations into the negotiations

WOW the publics view was correct about Jake ......if it walks like a Duck, quacks like a Duck, then it's a Duck .......or Hoodlum, where it applies

Huh ? .......he manages "Victims of Ink" , owned by his partner in crime, Toby Mitchell .....seriously ?
