We absolutely got reamed. By our own administration.

We gave up 2 years of first and second round picks, plus what we would have got in trade for Tippett, who was worth a first and second rounder at the time.

For nothing.

There's no way we come out on top from that. Imagine 2x more 23 yo 2012 draft picks playing in our GF team last year.

Don't try to paper over the cracks. It hurt us big.

I got to it through google. Basically says that because Tippett's payout was so high, it doesn't fit in this year's salary cap and has to be included in next year's as well - so he will probably have to be listed so that they can pay him. So 2 years as a listed player without playing.

The Francis scenario is the reason why we shouldn't be so overly abusive of players out of form. Who knows what kind of severe stress they're dealing with behind the scenes? A close family member death or suffering from a serious illness, are just a few reasons that can trigger a mental breakdown for anyone, let alone just footballers.

Players out of form shouldn't be paraded in front of us at AFL level being shit for long stretches. They should roll back to the SANFL and get their hands on the footy. That's what Mackay finally ended up doing and he returned in better fettle. If a player is out of form but still selected, the selectors deserve everything thrown at them and the player is just collateral damage. And anything happening in their personal life is entirely irrelevant Got problems, deal with them in the less stressful arena of the SANFL. I've read some idiotic statements and yours is right up there amongst the best of them.

You are back to your old habits again I see. The point I was making is that players playing poorly can have a lot more serious underlying mental issues than a typical fan would think. You have the right to hate a player out of form as a footy fan, but hurling ongoing abuse may add to their mental issues rather than improve the situation.

I agree with you though, a player out of form should be dropped for whatever reasons. But this is more a commentary on the coaches selection rather than due to a player being at fault for being out of form and continually being selected.

Jesus. The guy makes a comment that the way people carry on, personally attacking players for a game could damage those player's mental health, and you jump down his throat. That is a bit much.

Sydney really got little value from him from his spluttering first season up until his much criticised final season. He was inept in his one and only GF appearance and except for a few games his performance was like his final three years with us......just average to good. And that contract was a disaster for our club. Thanks to some ridiculous thinking from both sides of the negotiations.

So now Sydney are blessed with the Tippet curse........and he leaves a very rich man. Vastly overpaid considering his input over the last 6 or 7 years.

Do you want us to bump previous comments from the Pear Board about what superstars Lobbe, Trengrove, Impey etc were until they left and then they become spuds.

By definition when your “superstars”/exciting young talent piss off, you no longer want them .

On the other hand you “steal” top class talent like Watts, Trengove, the Cannon, Motflop and even Tommy the Leader from clubs who are distressed that they have left.

As for your "war chest" if that's the case how much overs were you paying the ordinary players that walked ?

I know the end sneak up, but he'll go close you'd think. Though at 1mil per year, it will sting even if he only falls a couple short.

Form has to hold up as well though and players tend to suddenly start getting leg issues after 30 odd years of age. He might be willing but will the body still be able?

it helps when AFL give you a huge defacto salary cap handout by allowing the suspended druggies contracted payments to be excluded from the salary cap
