I remember some hilarious posts in here from Cats supporters during Danger's first preseason with them. His kicking wasn't going to be an issue at Geelong because they had higher standards and Cats coaches and senior players wouldn't accept poor kicking, like we were some sort of amateur bush league outfit. There may even have been some mainstream media articles along similar lines?

Any attempts to point out that while he was an elite player with many talents, kicking wasn't among them was passed off as bitterness. Quite funny in hindsight.
A bit like when we told the Melbourne fans that Lever wasn't very good 1 on 1. Nek minnit.

Can Rocky, SPP and Wines work in the same midfield?

I didn't watch all of their game yesterday but did notice quite a few times Wines and SPP trying to go for the same ball. They both seem to want the same role. Both are also quite immature and just going at it like bulls. An admiral trait but you do need to be smarter to be effective Rocky will be wanting the same role as well.

It was like when we had Thommo and M Crouch in the same team. It didn't work well.

I honestly think that there are quite a few Port supporters who have no idea what sort of player Rocky actually is. The scary thing is that some of them are expecting Rocky to be some sort of line breaking midfielder.

I can't wait until I read the meltdowns about Rocky getting 30+ touches, but not really hurting the opposition with the ball. He's another Kane Cornes.

Robbie getting a week is BS.

Forget be is a Port player he barely touched McGovern and it looked more like be was bracing himself for contact against a bigger guy than instigating contact.

Sets a bad precedent.

Fatty Ryder got frustrated being outclassed all day.

You'd think they'd have a rotation set up where they're not in the middle at the same time. SPP only played Greenwood level minutes last year and Rocky can sit down forward for stretches, which would let you put Wines in as the constant inside midfielder while rotating guys like Ebert, Gray, Wingard, Boak etc in.
I think they'll be right personally. Run a combo of Rocky, Gray, Ebert and another of Wines, Wingard, Ebert and they won't have a problem. SPP could easily play off the back of the square and try and use his strength and burst speed to hit loose ball. They'll lack run sure, and I'm not sure where Boak fits in, but they can manage the Rocky/Wines/SPP with rotation; as Rocky and SPP can play fwd and back respectively.

Got a couple of mates who are Port supporters who have been banging on about top 4 potential since their stellar trade period. Caught bits of that game yesterday arvo. My suspicions were correct in that they were slow, their ball use was terrible and their game plan seems to have somehow gone backwards..

They can't go from flat-tracking bottom 8 sides last year and scraping into finals, to top 4 by adding Watts, Motlop, Rockliff and co. They've sold the farm, have cap issues, and not developed any kids over the past 3 or 4 years. They need to stop trying to find missing puzzle pieces and start a new puzzle. The sooner they finally come to that conclusion, the better it will be for their club and fans - here's hoping it takes another 3 or 4 years.

Meanwhile we have players like Atkins, Knight, Crouch x2, Laird, Kelly, McGovern etc running around who have all become stars in their own right because we have given them the time and resources to develop properly. If we can continue to restock using this method, there's no reason why our window can't stay open for several years to come..

Will agree until the cows come home that until Port drastically improve their player development their ceiling is a losing Semi Final.

When you look at the age profile of their better players and their failure to develop their youth they could be in a rough spot in 3-4 years.

Nevermind about Ryder getting a week for the elbow. He'll get off with an appeal mark my words.

Definitely got hit - he doesn't fake. Failed the concussion test. Had a big red welt on the other side of his head too.

Unlike Lindsay Thomas who dropped a mark late in the game and instantly grabbed his head

My mother had a brain injury from fainting and falling down. The bruise showed up on the opposite side of her head as the brain 'bounced' from one side to the other. It's apparently pretty common for something like this to happen.

He hit his head on the ground on the RHS, which is where the bruise is.

I know what you're saying , though. I once fell on my arm on concrete. There was nothing where the arm hit the concrete, but the inside of the arm was blackened where it met the ribcage. o_O

Port will be ok if they tailor their game to their strengths.

With their personnel being strong inside players they need to play a very congested style of football. Much like Sydney. They need to be happy to have a low scoring slugfest.

If they try to play ‘run and gun’ style football they’ll be in trouble.

More head in the sand stuff from the Port flogs. West coast supporter who witnessed the racial abuse gave an account of what happened on their board and gets called a dickhead etc. The best part is - despite the fact that numerous people said they were Port supporters, that they were barracking for Port throughout the game AND even started a chant - there were still posters saying "nah can't see much Port gear in the video" :D:D
