Yep, then to get Bailey we will likely downgrade our 2019 2nd round pick. Done.

We'll have 4 points spots left after we trade out the 1st round pick.

Edit: Just saw my mistake. We'll need to free all 5 spots. So 5 come off the list, 6 including Zurhaars upgrade. Apologies tbl & Pykie.

It’s all very confusing. But suffice to say trading out our first and then matching on Thomas is going to take force some hard decisions

Wasn’t there talk that they were going to abolish the rookie list

it'd be nice if they replaced it with some sort of system that allows VFL (or other state league listed) players to be promoted to the senior list

I know the SA and WA clubs having a weird player distribution arrangement with their leagues might complicate this but I like the rookie list's ability to let players who might never have gotten on a senior list a chance to prove themselves. We would've never had leigh adams, nathan grima, aaron mullett etc.

edit: and how could i forget sam gibson

Or Firrito.

I like the idea why cap it bring in live trading throughout the whole season..

Honestly wonder what the minimum would be for be for Billings. Excellent time to buy low.

Maybe not us, but if you were a team with an early second and maybe a 18-22 player, you could make a hell of a bargain.

Well, that's if you were good enough to develop him.

Fair dinkum I've seen people on here say "**** Kelly, if he wanted to be a Roo he would have joined us" but we had a very good offer in front of Billings last season as well and he stayed where he was. Not only that, he stayed for a lot more money than his output deserves so whilst he is still on that coin we would be significantly overpaying on exposed form.

Can't believe some people are discussing Billings seriously... we've got one already, his name is Nathan Hrovat.

Serious question. With all the talk of culling players and making really tough decisions at the end of the year, what the hell do we do if say Bailey nominates us and so does a Free Agent such as Gaff or Sloane, or a out of contract star such as Wines or Degoey want to come, how do/would the club manage this? How many players would need to go? In theory it is possible that Bailey nominates is along with at least a free agent and/or an out of contract player with our current on field form, culture, sudden love from the media and off field success... A good problem to have but the club couldn’t knock them back, could they?

Bingo! I called it. They're mothballing him, so he doesn't get injured and to drive his price down..

U18: Illness strikes down top Academy star

STAR Sydney Swans prospect Nick Blakey will miss the Allies' opening game of the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships with illness.

Blakey, who some recruiters believe is worthy of a top-five pick at this year's NAB AFL Draft, has been grounded by a viral infection and will sit out the Allies' clash with Vic Country on Saturday.

It follows Blakey also missing the recent trial game for the Allies due to bone bruising, and comes on the back of last season when he wasn't able to complete the Allies' carnival after suffering a back stress fracture.

Blakey is all but certain of costing the Swans their first pick at November's national draft after he informed the club last month he intended to join them through their Academy program.

He also had the option of nominating as a father-son with North Melbourne or Brisbane, with his father John a champion at the Roos and Fitzroy. John is now a long-time assistant coach with the Swans.

Blakey, a rangey 195cm forward who hopes to play in the midfield in the future, showed his talents for the Swans Academy during the Academy series earlier this year when he kicked 12 goals in the opening two games and finished second in the voting as the best player of the carnival, behind Tasmanian talent Tarryn Thomas.

Thomas will line-up for the Allies on Saturday, in a game that has been moved from Spotless Stadium to Blacktown due to weather concerns. The starting time has also been changed from 10am to 10.30am.

Country will be led by excellent midfielder Sam Walsh, who shapes as a No.1 pick contender after a consistent season, while possible Geelong father-son Oscar Brownless has also been named for Country.

I assume then that our list managers would have to make some very hard decisions.

But our list quality would be out of this world.

Crows and Port have their own reserves teams in the SANFL. Freo and WC have single affiliate clubs in Peel and East Perth.

We actually need to promote them.

Unless you want to fill the main list with Pick 78, pick 79, Pick 80 all on 2 year contracts. That will **** up our list management at the end of 2019.

Promoting 2 players that represent AFL quality means we can take 3 in the rookie draft on 1 year deals.

My thinking was more in keeping enough list spots vs picks clear for bid matching etc. Maybe it's not applicable.

Chris Scott all but admitted they're in the market for a ruckman. On the SEN website.

Current 1st pick: 14
Current next pick: 50

Players outside their top 8-10 that could get a trade for a good ruckmen: 0
