I do understand picking Siddle somewhat. He generally would have 20 overs 1 for 35 and England would have to force the pace. Bowling first is a head scratcher though. To bowl first you need to dismiss the other side for under 250 and then make 400 yourself. Looking seriously unlikely now
Even if that scenario eventuates, it still won't validate the decision to bowl first.

Bowling them out for under 250 could still occur, but only because England have a calamitous batting line up.
 
Haven't seen Lyon bowl so poorly for years - if the finger is no good , don't play.

He's been awful since the first test, taken 2 for goodness knows how many since the first test.

I would think we are the WORST or close to it chasing sides too, makes no sense. Love to know Paine's reasoning and it better be good because to me he's thrown away the chance to bat England into submission on a road.
Paine trying to be a hero making a risky call hoping for a fairytale perhaps? You never bowl first in these conditions seems a dumb call alright.
