If you land 9 for Papley, would the below trade have any merit?
9+25 > Cats for 14+17
5 +14 or 5+17 for Daniher

Reality

Daniher still an Essendon player
Papley still a swans player

and AFL trade period is the most overhyped load of crap

You just had a tantrum about us using picks that we don't even have yet, and may not ever get, to make a trade that we haven't even done yet, and may never do, and told us all it is sending us back to the darkest days of the club. And you need me to explain to you how that is melodrama?

This is a hypothetical thread therefore all persons post their views.

I also dont try to denegrate others either but maybe I doing it wrong.

I also know what melodrama is and sometimes it plays out.

What reality? No trades have been made. Talk about jumping and shadows.

well a few things, and look each to their own, so not having a go

but

1- we havent made a single move yet, so even if you are right and this would doom us forever, it hasnt happened yet

2- its all guess work, maybe 5 and 9 are duds, maybe daniher is perfect for us

3- the comp is designed for all clubs to fall, we could all reach consensus on the exact move to make, but eventually the club will have a down patch, we will probably win a spoon

4- if we did fall to last and useless now it wont be forever

like i said its all good discussion

i see whichever way we go, lets say we keep our picks and ignore daniher and he dominates for essendon whilst we collapse

i think its a setback as is the opposite if it fails, but whilst its a setback, it can be repaired

No absolutes

however whilst im on the get daniher bandwagon,i think 5 and 9 is ****ing overs, and i hope we dont just do it out of some fear to walk away

That would be totally irresponsible of the Swans to do that. I'm confident that they are not that stupid.

I have great faith in the Swans list management that is looking ahead several years to replace ageing players in key roles. Occasionally you get curveballs with long term injuries and players wanting to be traded but, by and large, the Swans have had a very measured approach to trading for their needs as required, several years in advance.
However we now have a situation of Daniher fluttering his eyelashes and suddenly the list management should be thrown out the window according to several posters. I'm concerned that Harley is also suffering from the same delusion. To trade away 2 first round picks in this situation could potentially set us back years. We have already had to suffer from carrying Tippett the past couple of years and have to deal with an ageing Buddy taking up significant cap space for the next 3. Now is not the time to be rolling the dice on an injury prone player on big wages.

Swans: Daniher
Bombers: Pick 6, 25 & 2nd 2020

That is not that stupid. I'd keep the GWS 2020 second - 6 and 25 is enough.
Next year seconds will help us if bids come on the academy kids after our first. Risk if we don't have enough points we have to use 2021 first.
I reckon Daniher a 2019, 2020 and 2021 first, Gulden and Campbell + some later picks would be pretty good outcome for losing Papley and Jones

GWS going hard for Demons pick 3 is a given. Will be interesting to see what comes out of that one.
