Endurance and consistency can be built. Though if we want Pickett, I'd prefer we traded down to two picks in the 20s, and grab him there with someone else, or even trade that other pick for a future second given our lack of list spots.
Or trade up our third rounder this year?

13 + 51 = 1,471 on points.

That's the equivalent of picks 17 and 39

Geelong have 17 & 36. We can live trade on the night if McAsey is gone and Pickett is our second option. Gives us a better chance at our second target.

McAsey still favourite- Bruce and Keath give us 3-4 years - which is brilliant but injuries or form and our depth is thin. Having a young star at both ends would be brilliant.

But - presuming gets is gone then Weightman, Bergman, Robertson etc all will be great fantastic and a few others around that will be great.

Gould may slip and this could be really interesting - would we be able to pass him by even though he is not a need and would struggle to meet the team
totally agree with your view on McAsey. Even if McAsey turn out to be Aaron Naughton lite.... that's is one hell of player for the next 10 years.

It would be a very interesting development if we took Pickett at 13. He has not featured in any top 30 phantom drafts but if we are really intent on a small forward with a high level of skill then perhaps he fits the bill. Certainly fits the bill as 'small', only 171cm and 71kg.
this year I'm keen to see how West Jr goes. Could be a fantastic pressure fwd.

I like that idea too. If we could land Pickett and someone like De Koning or someone good on the wing, that'd be a great draft.

Don’t be surprised at all if we select Pickett

he ticks all the boxes.

Aboriginal tick
Small forward (position of need) tick
Electric pace tick
Goal kicker tick

our new recruiting officer came from Richmond and has a great track record with small forwards..

also he will be a great partner in crime with Jammara in the forward line.

2021:

Picket Bruce Dale
Marra Naughton Schache
Pickett played in the SANFL reserves Grand Final (Losing side) and kicked two goals and one behind from
his six disposals four kicks, two handballs. Cameron Taheny played for the winning team and kicked
Four goals and one behind and is sliding fast. Not at pick 13, only a viable option if we split the pick and
find a buyer which should not be hard given the difficulty of multiple mid range picks in this draft.

I don’t buy the whole ‘not at pick 13’

We aren’t the experts!
if the club thinks he is worth pick 13, then I’m all for it.

Fact is that he has been invited to the draft. So someone definetly has him in first round calculations.

I also don’t buy the stats argument.

Cyral rioli was the perfect example of that..

Andrew Gaze has high hopes for AFL draft prospect Fischer McAsey.

The highly rated Sandringham Dragons, Vic Metro and Caulfield Grammar key position player, who can operate at both ends of the ground, is expected be taken in the top 10 at the 2019 National Draft later this month.

Australian basketball legend Gaze coached McAsey during his junior basketball days with the Melbourne Tigers so has seen first-hand the attributes he will carry into his football career.

“He’s an absolute beauty,” Gaze said on SEN Breakfast.

“Coached him in the U12s and U14s, and in fact, he played against the top two kids that will be one and two in the draft this year (Matt Rowell and Noah Anderson).

“They were super dominant. They were a great team throughout U12s and 14s and Fischer played against those guys.

“Fischer is just a tremendous athlete but (has) a really high IQ. I went and watched him play footy a couple of times, he played for Caulfield Grammar, and I saw him on the telly.

“I don’t know where he is predicted to go but if you are judging IQ and intensity, and you give someone an instruction and their ability to execute, he is right up there.”

Gaze also touched on former Boomer Tom Wilson, who was signed by Collingwood as a category B rookie last year, after spending time playing basketball in the US, Serbia and with the Sydney Kings.

“The other one that hopefully will turn out to be an absolute superstar, a bit of a later start, is Tommy Wilson that Collingwood signed,” he added.

“He was with the Kings last year. Was a superstar as a junior. He’s going to be an absolute beauty as well.”

There have been a few examples of those adept at basketball turning their hand to footy in recent times and according to Gaze, the pinching of hoops talent remains on the agenda for the AFL.

“It is a scary thing when you go to the U18 National Basketball Championships and you see more AFL representatives in the audience than you do NBL people, you know that they are on to something,” he said further.

With tongue planted firmly in cheek, Gaze made his predictions for both of the cross-coders: “He (McAsey) would be an absolute steal at 10. He is going to be a 300-game AFL star.

“I put him (Wilson) in the Scott Pendlebury category because of the way he moves and the IQ… so no pressure on my boys!”

Changing the Khamis "B" rookie status to "A" rookie status before the season when he was no chance to debut
certainly has a "Twilight Zone" or "X-Files" feel to it, 40 Main, 4 x "A" and 1 x "B" makes sense to me.

no-one seems to be able to tell me if Khamis can be reset back to a Cat B rookie

The AMT rumours before trade period were quite strong so you may be right and trading back could mean
you miss the target when another team swoops in. Any player with any x-factor will likely get a run on
AFL.com in the next few weeks and be seen as a draft bolter. It's Cyril too not Cyral.

If we are into pickett, can we downgrade pick 13 into 2 picks in the twenties to grab pickett and elijah taylor?
Geelong are rumored to be working up the draft to get McAsey. Could be a case of seeing if Fisher is at our pick draft night and live trading back. Could work out well for us if Geelong are super keen.

I don't reckon Pickett will get passed Swans or Cats

This is my exact thought. We're being linked to Pickett and Bergman, who are both likely 2nd round picks.

In 2015, we traded Pick 11 + 2016 3rd to Carlton for 20 + 21 (these positions changed a lot after bidding).

This year, we could go for something like Pick 13 + 53 for North's 26 + 27. Or Geelong's 17 + 36.

This gives us the chance to potentially take both of Bergman AND Pickett if things go right, rather than Pick 13 on just one of them

If we're pick downgrading with anyone, the obvious answer is Fremantle. If Henry is still on the board at our selection, they would definitely be keen on trading for it. They have pick 22, their future first, their future second and Melbourne's future second so there's plenty to work with.

Because Khamis was a registered AFL player in 2019, I believe he is not eligible to be a Cat B rookie in 2020. He would have to spend 3 years outside the AFL to become eligible to be a Cat B rookie again.

If Henry is still on the board at our pick Fremantle will have used picks 7 & 10 and will be half way through their
second Cuban.

Bergman looking like the bolter, won't be there past the first round I reckon.

Best case scenario for me at this point is trading 13 with:

Geelong for 17 (Bergman) and 24 (Pickett)
Port Adelaide for 18 (Bergman) and 29 (Pickett)
Brisbane for 16 (Bergman) and 21 (Pickett)

Obviously not all are realistic and require other stuff coming back and forth. Basic idea is turn 13 into Bergman and Pickett. That's the dream.
