Prediction 2019 Fixture

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Wouldn’t surprise me if we got the Alberton Trial as an softener for the absolute dogshit scheduling we’ll get all season thanks to our Bassett/Hinkley grind fest play style from last year.

We'll never not be travelling all over the country. The club seems to embrace it.

Round 2 fixture leaked apparently...

Our first home match is GWS, 4pm Saturday twilight

I wouldn't be surprised if 4pm Saturday twilight is a regular home fixture for us

Thought Hawthorn were away to crows in round 1?

I'll take Saturday twilight over Sunday twilight. At least can either still get home at a reasonable hour, or eldest and I (if we renew) can meet other half and youngest and still do something else afterwards. Sunday twilight games are just horse shitting for 7 hours.

Lol, how ridiculous is it that we were able to accurately pick exactly who our R2 opponent would be based only on the R1 fixture? The fixturing in this league is farcical and designed solely with the goal of maximising tv revenue through the promotion of big Melbourne clubs.

Wingard at AO for rd 1 vs the crows. Hope he kicks 12, the hypo metre goes crazy, our list managers and coaches feel the heat and Hawks supporters finally wake up how good he is. He can then have hamstring tightness for the rest of the season.

Interesting we get a gig at Alberton in the JLT v North. I remember writing a few years ago when both clubs were struggling financially that we should do a deal with North and go to the AFL and say we will play each other in the preseason comp, 1 year at Alberton the next at Arden St to make a few $$$$. That way the clubs could get rid of a country game and if we both played in the city we wouldn't have to play at Footy park and give the SANFL the $$$ and North at the Docklands and give the private owners the $$$.

What a terrible fixture already.

From a football perspective you've got the premiers opening their season against 2nd bottom then 3rd bottom.

And from a marketing / broadcast perspective these teams appear nationally on free to air during the first two weeks:

Richmond X2 Collingwood X2 Carlton X2 Essendon X2 Western Bulldogs X2 Hawthorn x1 Geelong x1 Melbourne x1 Sydney X2 GWS x1

Jesus this fixturing shit isn't as hard as they act like it is.

My favourite time slot.

Let's be honest, if Chad Wingard is kicking 12 goals then hes lifted his game massively and he's made the decision to become dedicated. I don't like losing Chad but let's not pretend like he's ripped games apart over the last 3 seasons.

The fixture is rigged into two conferences - Foxtel teams and Channel 7 teams.

All the Foxtel teams play each other for the maximum amount of games, squirrelled away on Foxtel. These are the following 9 sides:

West Coast (purely for time difference)
Fremantle
Port Adelaide
Gold Coast
GWS
Brisbane
Western Bulldogs
St Kilda
North Melbourne

You can guarantee the maximum amount of double ups in this group between these sides whenever possible.

All the Channel 7 teams play each other for the maximum amount of games, broadcast on prime time. These are the following sides:

Adelaide
Carlton
Collingwood
Essendon
Richmond
Hawthorn
Geelong
Sydney
Melbourne

These teams will also play the maximum amount of double up games against each other.

In bold are the teams that made finals this year.

The fixture is rigged so that at least four sides will be teams that Channel 7 backed in their broadcast through the year. This year it was Richmond, Hawthorn, Sydney, Geelong, Collingwood and Melbourne. Last year it was Adelaide, Sydney, Essendon, Geelong and Richmond. The year before it was Sydney, Geelong, Hawthorn and Adelaide.

It’s done this way because of crowds and optics.

LOL, how aren't West Coast playing Collingwood 1st home game of the season and unveiling the flag? Are Collingwood immune to this?
VFL comp confirmed

Or maybe the Hawks great kickers hit him up deep inside 50 rather than just bomb it inside 50 or kick it to the shit house like our forward 50 entries.

You can guarantee 2 things about Chad in 2019. He will set himself up for maximum output when he plays his first game for the Hawks and when he plays against us.

That’s bullshit that West Coast have to unveil their flag against St Kilda of all teams.

It’s not really a tradition to unveil the flag against the other grand finalist though, is it? Richmond did it against Carlton this year and then played Adelaide away.

You've only just worked this out? :)

Its been this way since 2007. Between 2002-06 the original Fox Footy Channel had 5 different state versions, so no live against the gate and even though 9 and 10 were less non Vic teams friendly compared to 7 pre 2002 they were fair with the teams they covered.

But 2007-11 deal, Packer made a ridiculous bid on his death bed after 10 shafted 9 and joined 7, 7 had last bid rights, Fox Footy Channel was closed after losing $120m over 5 years, games were shown live against the gate on Fox Sports (50% Murdoch and 50% Packer) whereas as Fox Footy Channel the loss maker was 50% Telstra 25% Murdoch and 25% Packer. The deal between Fox Sports 7 and 10 wasn't done until mid February 2007.

It meant 7 and 10 and then 7 since 2012-16 deal and this 2017-22 deal they have tried to max ratings in the Melbourne market the 2nd most expensive TV advertising rate market in Oz.

Plus TV viewing habits have changed making live sport a more important commodity to own so the value of rights have out paced the growth in advertising revenue and general adverting rates increases.

Sydney has the most expensive TV advertising rates and a big supporter base in Melbourne so they get in with the Vic clubs. Adelaide get a big home audience and have decent support in Melbourne and don't have a big time disadvantage like West Coast so they get in.

The more expensive the TV rights get, the longer low penetration rates of Pay TV has in Oz and especially Perth and Adelaide, and more streaming viewing, the more locked in these 2 "conferences" get.
