Salary cap cheating is alive and well at Essendope.
Lucky Dylan landing an extra part time six figure gig.
Whatever it takes!

EDIT. Guess I know who I'll be booing when we play the druggies again.

I've got absolutely no idea why the AFL and football media are strongly defending Gary Ablett.

He liked (agreed to) a post by Israel Folau which said some pretty poor things including homosexuals should go to hell.

Ablett says he unliked the post because he didn't know the entirety of what Folau said in his message. Obviously that's bullshit. Gary is a very religious man. Maybe too religious, and he should cop whatever the fans want to throw at him for that.

It's bizarre that the AFL and football media have been going on and on about equality and teams (including our own) holding the annual Pride game. So why are they so defensive with Ablett's actions?

Big names get special treatment in the AFL.
Shouldn't be a surprise.

If it had have been an also ran probably would have been delisted already.

It's just so obvious that Ablett shares the same views as Folau. It's so hypocritical by those in the media and those at AFL HQ to on one hand say yes we need equality and the LGBTI community should feel welcome at the football - and then to basically tell fans to not take issue with a player who disagrees with this view. Again...bizarre...

Yep. And if his name wasn't Ablett he'd have been crucified. Double standards AFL again.

they're just following the precedent set by other clubs

i mean do people really think WCE can go from cash strapped, can't fit in blokes, to bang we can keep Gaff oh and we re-signed Gov and Yeo as well.

people need to wake up to the fact the AFL operates like country footy now. it's open season.

Because he's Gary Ablett. The "Good bloke" rule applies to him.

Zero SC integrity!

how was their play for kelly too, whilst all that happened

so in effect they could have gone:
RE-SIGNED: Gaff, McGovern and Yeo all on big $$$
TRADE IN: Hickey & Kelly

the salary cap is now non-existent. it's however much clubs are prepared to pay.

I might be alone here but Goodes was booed because he is w***er. I don't believe it had anything to do with his race, and the fact that he attached it to racism only furthered the public's reaction towards him.

Ablett should be booed for this - and he should've taken it on the chin and aplogised for his archaic view - put him in some LGBTI counselling sessions or something, along with whatever other rubbish he agreed with Folau on.

then why wasn't he booed for the entirety of his career. he wasn't. it only occurred over here once his stand on indigenous issues occurred. suddenly they felt motivated enough to boo him. he deserved so much better than that!

couldn't agree more on gazza.

the message out of this is the AFL are more prepared to defend a homophobe than they are an indigenous australian trying to push forward an uncomfortable truth that life for many indigenous australians is extremely poor.

Because it started when he decided to publicly shame a 13 year old girl. Yes, what she said was racist (calling him an ape) but at that age it's highly likely that the girl has been influenced by her parents or friends. She wouldn't hold that view herself from her life experiences, because she hasn't had any. What Goodes did in saying "Racism has a face. It's a 13 year old girl" was completely irresponsible from a grown man like him IMO. People, myself included, took issue with him heaping that kind of pressure on a young girl rather than her parents or the community in general. Children that age act that way because they have got it from somewhere - and that somewhere is what needed to be addressed - not the girl herself.

So naturally people were pissed off at the way he handled the situation and booed him for it - not because they also thought he was an ape, but because he handled the situation poorly. He then attributed THAT booing again to racism, which is so far from the reality of the situation it's not even funny. I was glad to see him retire, he unneccessarily over politicised the game at the time and his view on the situation couldn't have been anymore off the mark. Yes, we should stamp out racism but that's a pretty poor way to go about doing it. For a grown man who has most likely & unfortunately taken abuse like this in the past, he decided to shine a light on his situation by singling out a child in the process.

Sorry George you are so wrong wrong wrong on so many levels with those comments.

So what did Goodes actually say

Well here's the full transcript of the interview - once its finished Goodes has no control over what and how the media chooses to report.

Oh look what they forgot to include

"And all this week, you know, this week is a celebration of our people and our culture and the absolute privilege of meeting the great man Nicky Winmar two days ago now and what he's been able to do for us 20 years ago and to be able to make a stand myself and say racism has a face last night and, you know, it was a 13-year-old girl but it's not her fault.

She's 13, she's still so innocent, I don't put any blame on her. Unfortunately it's what she hears, the environment she's grown up in that has made her think it's ok to call people names."

Unfortunately you've blindly accepted what the media said and as a result have re-endorsed the casual (and not so casual) racism that most definitely exists in the country.

If it was purely racism why aren't the other 70 + indigenous players booed for their race?

He politicised football, he tried to incite the crowd, and then played victim.

Goodes was a w***er.

Ablett is a bigot and obvious homophobe.

We have a pride match and he shit on it under the guise of his 'faith'.

I just saw what 'faith' did in Sri Lanka

He knew exactly what he was doing. He blerted out the headline grab, which was played on all major TV networks, then played the conciliatory victim.

Goodes was looking for a political career and tried to politicize the game of football.

His spear throwing routine was an act of overt violence to incite the crowd.

I have no time for Goodes and his enablers.
Glad he retired.

Bloody stupid by Hocking making the issue being highlighted even more , just gives it more Oxygen.

Social media is bloody dangerous territory would think any AFL player should think about it before
pushing the button , once done there forever, that is what the players Assoc should be pushing hard.

A mind reader among your many talents? Some big assumptions you're making here.
