Spot on thy and therein lies some of the problems, dissemination of misinformation, call them rumors, grievances and plain old gossip are inflammatory, complicate matters enormously.
We have all signed on to a forum to partake in discussing such things. If anything I beleive social media has held journalists more accountable.

Has anyone seen/heard anything that suggests where Martin and Newnes might be lining up next year? Has Teague said anything in his pressers about where he sees them fitting in? Probably stating the obvious but where these two guys slot in will have a fair impact on the shape of our 22. Feels a bit like sloppy journalism (is there any other type?) to just categorise Martin as a forward as he played all over the place at the GC .... Newnes is another interesting one as he played his best footy a couple of years ago at wing and half-back but spent the last 12 months forward.

Martin himself, and multiple people at the Club (SOS, Lloyd), have said he will play forward.

Newnes is a winger and Maritn can Play anywhere if need be best positioned as a Half forward with bursts in the guts

Martin's welcome interview vid had him suggesting he thought he'd be playing forward (deep, half forward, not sure?).

Newnes is a winger, plain and simple. Can do other stuff in a pinch, but we've got better options forward and back.

100%. I like Martin’s ability to spend time in the middle (or perhaps behind the ball similar to SPS late in 2019), but will hopefully see most time as a high HFF.
Newnes surely will play primarily wing, possibly HBF or HFF. Haven’t seen much of him in the guts, and not fond of him as a F50 target.

Martin I see as being a forward. Either a half forward who spends a bit of time in the forward pocket or as a forward pocket who spends time in the midfield. I don't think we need him in the midfield much if at all but we do need him forward. Short answer is where we need him.

Newnes is a wingman who might spend a bit of time rotating with the defenders.

Teague himself has said he's looking forward to watching Eddie and Jack in the forward line

Hopefully we have learnt our lesson from playing Gibbons out off position. Newnes of 3 years ago will contribute plenty to our structure. So I hope we play him wing/half back. Which gives us plenty of options for half back.

Simmo
Doc
Marchbank
Newman
newnes
SPS
Stocker
Williamson

out of the above, I would love to give Simmo a go on the HFF

I agree generally with what you’re saying here. Even if its sometimes hard to find the right balance; ie a player’s best position is not always so black and white. Sometimes playing someone out of position leads to realisation that she/he has been played out of best position e.g Jones.

It's going to make for some challenging selections if all fit.

Locking Martin into our forward 6 - probably means that Eddie comes in at the expense of Fish or Cunners (and that's not even considering Kennedy or JSOS as playing the third/fourth utility marking forward option). Interesting times. McKay, Curnow, Gov, Martin, Betts, '?' ..... lack of pace and tackling pressure worries me a little.

I don't think you play all of Curnow, McKay, McGovern, Silvagni & Kennedy up forward.

I'm not so worried about our (best 22) forwards. Mitch recorded the fastest speed of any Carlton player last year. Martin has really good tackle numbers for someone not playing on-ball. Cuningham is fast. Charlie & Harry can move for big guys, Jack is a scrapper. Eddie will probably be playing deep.

HF: McGovern, McKay, Martin
FF: Betts, Curnow, Cuningham
Jack the bench (Fisher too but as a midfield option, Martin & Cuningham also get the occasional rotation).

It's a great problem to have, plenty of depth. we probably go with three talls and three smalls. Martin has plenty of pace and he loves a tackle and Eddie will have a turbo charged mobility scooter out there. Will be interesting who the third small will be, maybe we use the run of O'brien and Newnes from the wing in the forward and backline. I for one can't wait until they bounce the ball in round one.

Not a huge concern IMO.

Martin, Cuningham are excellent pressure players. Not exactly slow either.

Betts has been terrorising defenses for well over a decade. May not be as quick as he once was but he remains lethal inside the arc. Him just being there creates pressure.

Gov is terrific defensively for his height. Quick and a good tackler. We didn’t see him near his best in 2019, go look at his Adelaide highlights though.

McKay, Curnow aren’t slow for their height, particularly Harry. They are not forward pressure specialists, but not many key forwards are.

If we're going to plonk Simmo on the half forward flank, it better be in the VFL. No point trying to reinvent the bloke at 36.

Plowman, Jones, Docherty
SPS, Weitering, Newman*
Curnow, Walsh, Murphy
Kreuzer, Cripps, Setterfield
Martin, Curnow, Cuningham*
Betts, McKay, McGovern
I/C from: Simpson, JSOS, Marchbank, Fisher, Dow, O'Brien, Gibbons, Newnes, Kennedy, Williamson, Stocker, Casboult

The two with asterisks are the question marks for me.

Newman in pending fitness of Marchy and Willo, as either could take that spot.

Cuningham needs to keep performing, as he'll have a number of guys breathing down his neck. Think he's the best fit on ability and profile, but far from a lock.

Either way - that's my "top 30" this year that I think we'll be selecting from. If we're going any deeper into the list than that, it's because something's gone really wrong (drastic injuries) or really right (Cottrell/Philp/TDK having a breakout and demanding selection).

The blend of players is certainly better than for recent years.
How good the new players may yet be, will show up in due course, but the balance is so much better now.
I'll base this purely on exposed form to date, which will mean little in the scheme of things and as the pre-season unfolds -

Simpson Jones Plowman
Docherty Weitering SPS........This was pretty easy.

Kreuzer Cripps Murphy
Walsh Setterfield Cottrell.......Not too hard either.

Cuningham Casboult Fisher
Betts McGovern JSilvagni.......Hurts without CCurnow and Mckay

ECurnow Newman Stocker Gibbons

* Can't include McKay, Marchbank nor CCurnow for injury
* Won't include Dow, Kennedy, O'Brien, Newnes nor Martin, as they haven't impressed just yet. Williamson because of lack of drill involvement.

The thing is though (and all being well) we do have some decent depth as there are 31 names there that shouldn't embarrass us, should they get opportunity.

* Thereafter we have the likes of Macreadie, BSilvagni, Polson, Lang De Koning and Goddard should we have to delve deeper for injury.

It's mostly development players thereafter although Philp may get a look in, some time this year.

Fairly confident SPS won't spend the entire year on a HBF

Could well be the case and Newman has impressed me so far and Marchbank will come back.

SPS has been training as that exit player we've been wanting and has been doing it to good effect albeit in a 10-12 side format.
